They didn't grant Mike Brown eligibility to play at Alabama A&M. (Locke has linked the story) It sucks for him because even though he made an awful decision to fire a gun on campus, it was really harmless, and he was just trying to stop the situation from escalating any further (which it would have). It is quite possible that they are more out of touch than the friggin government.

And it's nothing new and just a vicious cycle. I followed Ben Mauk's story (former Cincy and Wake quarterback) and he got royally 17ed by the NCAA. I know he was going for his sixth year but the guy went under the knife a ton and pretty much has a bionic arm. He filed an injunction against them but it was denied.

Look at the make-up of the executive board. Then look at their credentials. It never occurred to me that there might be an agenda until 7 or 8 years back....I had lunch with a radio personality, who had over 20 years in the business as a position coach for several top 20 teams. It opened my eyes about the decisions that you read about and the reasoning behind them.

His comment about the NCAA, was that they have absolutely no appreciation for the upper tier of football teams in the NCAA structure. The top 100 teams are the cash cows. Most of the NCAA board members and policy makers are from old Div II and III programs.....or from the academic and/or presidential side of the equation. Thus, there is a built in envy/hate/diabolical plan for the monies and programs in the spotlight. Sometimes from their OWN schools. They are NOT sports people!

It's as akin to socialism that you would ever want to see. There is no regard for the kid who is a possible 6 year athlete. That athlete is no scholar....is not likely to add to the coffers....etc. What can that athlete add to the agenda of the secondary and DIV III schools? Take the big dollars from the rich and give them to the under-financed.

Oh yeah, "can I stick it to a big program here and bring them down off their high horse...oh yeah, here we go!" That's the mantra. Never expect any kind of break from them. Never.

Think anti-big time football...and you have your NCAA in one neatly bow-tied bundle

That whole stink about Indian mascots is all you need to know about the NCAA - stepping in and de-mascotting several teams to defend the sensitivities of the unoffended.

He knew, or should have known, that you have to sit out a year if you transfer to another Div. I school. He could have transferred to a Div. II school and played if he'd wanted to. There's really no reason the NCAA should have made an exception in his case.

You're both wrong. Alabama A&M is Div 1. FCS (formerly I-AA) to be more specific. In football, you can transfer to an FCS school without sitting out a year, unless it's your senior year you're transferring for. Brown could've gone to a d2 school and played.

Which is a stupid-*** rule. But the bottom line is, both Brown and Alabama A&M should have taken the time to find out what the rule is before he transferred there.
