Thank you. Having played with Simeon I thought my mind was a little clouded when I saw his name mentioned. Made HUGE strides in the offseason between Jr. & Sr. Year and was a playmaker (we only allowed 6pts in the playoffs & we wouldn’t have won state without his forced fumble in the 4thQ). Also, we ended the 88 season #6 in the nation and #7 in 1990. So giving Simmy credit for making MC a national powerhouse before he was a starter would be quite a stretch, lol.Simeon Rice had a dominant senior year and an outstanding collegiate and pro career, but the Mount Rushmore of IL? No way. He's a great story that almost wasn't in HS. Running Back who grew too much and was moved to TE where he was told that spot was going to Matt Cushing (ended up on the Steelers). He almost quit when he was suggested to go to the DL but he tried it and the rest is history. But he wasn't even in consideration as the GOAT.
All.... Wayne Strader- Geneseo. A cool dude. He did some coaching with then Griffin High School (SHG) back in the late 80's and 90's as well as on air announcing for some of the Cyclone games in Springfield. RatsyIn my time I have Watched Macomb Phil Bradley, Geneseo Wayne Stader, Rick Penny, Lance Hofer, Randy Clary, Willie Woaf, Trent Dilfer and Luther Burden, Alsott of JC, adam dach Byron/NIU plus more have missed. Coached against Ottawa Micheal Hermasillo, Morris John Dergo and that amazing 2004 team, St. Viator qb that went to Vandy, IC TE at IC, Providence TE who turned out to be a Guard for Bengals, Matt Bailey moline/Illinois, Drew Himmelman Il State/Broncos, Derek Allen Geneseo/Giants and many more. Such a good career.
