Helps alot when jca goes penalty, penalty, timeout to start the game.

In my opinion east stl looming in round 2 got in jca’s head, thus the reasoning behind the lack of motivational “muscle” from thee ol’ Hilltoppers, not to take anything away from thee ol’ feisty glenwood though….
Left at half. JCA was like watching a slow slumber of dust settling. 1980 offense. Big for sure and slow as a broken down pack mule. Rudys brother needs more sprinting and less power lifting with that squad or recruit some speed. was very unimpressed with them. Think it would be tough to recruit a QB to the school....still jogging back and forth for the plays in 2025. Poor kid runs an extra 3 miles a game to get the play 1950 style.
Was a down year for sure. However, that "1980 offense" has done pretty well over the years, and in case you haven't been watching, it has changed dramatically. Your comparison to 1980 and 1950 show your lack of knowledge of the program. Down years happen, they are real. Thank you for your detailed and insightful analysis. It is much appreciated.
No worries. Jca has quite the history. Of course my comment was about the now and not the past. Chatham looked fine. Will be a 40 point loss next weekend to esl. Having coached at the d3, d1 and nfl level...i saw a big, slow squad. I drove from peoria strictly to watch JCA. They need team speed in a huge way. I know the passion runs deep with you all but i dont have a horse in the race but jca needs some race horses.
Pardon me, but an NFL (not nfl) coach traveled to see a 4-5 team and thinks they need improvement? Shocking.
Well...opinions will vary about me and no worries. However, if you have 5 cents of football knowledge and watched jca play you would know they are 4-6 for a reason and its not because they are good. They ain't! If your a parent...sorry....tell your kid to run track and apologize for the slow twitch genetics. If your a fan...its typical to be mad and not face reality of 4-6. If your a coach....you already know. Start recruiting speed.
The “reality” is Jca has 15 titles and a handfull of runnerups, glenwood and you should thank the gods that they didn’t run into a traditional Jca squad….
I drove 1.5 hours hoping i would see the true JCA squad. Have watched them and all the other catholic schools from that area. I was looking for a JCA big win and love watching good football. I am sure they will be back with some athletic recruiting. Again...my comment was about the 2025 JCA football team. Not the past. Yes we all know the past.
The only issue here is that someone thinks JCA is stuck in the '80s and then the '50s, and has never had team speed, but should get some. Obviously a little short-sighted. Has this guy ever seen some of the JCA backfields?
Ok...my god man...i know jca is just incredible, best, amazing program in the state. They are fit, fast, big, strong. How they went 4 -6 and lost to chatham in 2025, i will never know. Again...what i saw TODAY, IN 2025 SEASON. Was a big, very slow team that reminded me of the old wishbone, triple option offenses of the 80's. That is all. Hell...maybe i am wrong. Been wrong alot in my life. Lost alot in my career but i tried to never live in the past. Yes...have watched jca quite a bit...not sure the year but when the had those 2 backs....one went to USC? Maybe. Maybe best backfield state has seen. They were incredible. They dont have that in 2025.
I didn't see the game today. But the 2025 Hilltoppers as a whole were certainly not the big plodding run first Hilltoppers of old. They didn't have the road graders or stable of backs and, as such, went with a spread look, using 4 wideouts even more often than they went with 2-3 backs. They spread the ball out and passed it a ton. I don't believe a single back had more than 500 rushing yards this season. You probably have to go back many, many decades to find a JC team with that statistic. I would bet well over a half century.
So this was not your Hilltopper football team of old. I thought they actually tried to spread it out and throw it around too much throughout the year. That said, they did seem to find something with their LB Pomatto carrying the ball late in the season. It sounds like they likely tried to go back to that well in the game today.
I am actually pining for a return to the Hilltopper offense of old next season with a stable of backs and a bevy of 270 plus pound O-linemen.
It's what they do and what they have always done. They do adjust and adapt, with the first 9 weeks of this season showing that. Can they get rid of the QB running in plays? Sure. But is the double wing or downhill I power running antiquated? Hardly. When they have the right personnel, it works just great and did in 2021, 2018, etc. This year they didn't have that personnel and tried to adapt to more of a spread, 2025 look. I assume the next years ahead will bring the traditional personnel back to the program and that will be good. In a best case scenario, you get the 2021 Hilltoppers with a stable of backs, nasty OL, a couple perimeter playmakers, and an athletic QB who can extend plays.
Lets recap:

Said way better than I.....and i agree! I drove to see jca...not chatham. I watched jca last year in peoria and they buried peoria. I was shocked today when the 1st 3 plays were pass plays. I was expecting a huge line...which they have and athletic backs. What i saw was just overall a slow team. The option, wing t look can and does work at jca with the right personel. I love that jca. Its great to watch. Find yourself some fast, athetic backs to run behind those monsters. Today just looked old, slow and sluggish. Not that matters what i like but i wish they would signal in plays or run them in to the qb.
The northern Catholics seem to really hang their hats in the past. Much like even remotely thinking that MC can play with ESL. If tonight didn’t debunk that thinking, I don’t know what else will. Maxpreps and the rest of the country has it right.

Rudys brother a legend? I will tell him. He might not do it but speed matters. Many, many, many better strength coaches than him. I am sure he does a fine job but all coaches need critique, help and improvement. Many football players run track...even if they are not the fastest. Running track will not make you the fastest but will make you faster. Teaches you rhythm and movement skills. Keeps you in shape. Alot of benefits to track regardless of track talent. Track will help you be better at your chosen sport...football, volleyball...whatever. alot of those boys i saw on the field today need less weightroom and more speed work. I respect your opinion and people can have different points. Here is to a great 2026.

those die hard catholics know how to keep secrets. those back room meetings as young boys with priests taught them to be quiet.
