There are maybe five real journalists left in the world, and this guy is one of them. He just tells the truth, whatever it may be. He left the intercept when they censored his story on Joe and Hunter Biden.
What he says here speaks volumes about what you can expect in the next four years from the media (assuming Biden really does win after the legal challenges). The media positively is not able or willing to be objective:
"Even if Trump loses, they're not going to go back to talking about Joe Biden because they know people will cancel their subscriptions and change the channel. They'll continue to say that Trump, or his movement, still pose an existential threat... They're going to inflate it wildly so that any criticism of Joe Biden will be depicted as endangering American liberty, helping fascism, serving the agenda of the Kremlin, and the need of censorship will be accepted by more and more people."

Who do you think pays these people? They will create the narrative and most will follow it.

From reading this board over the last couple of years ... one thing I know is that the posters here will not abide placing blame for any current problems on a past administration ... of this I am certain

I am fairer than I realized because I like Taibbi and Greenwald. Taibbi wrote a brilliant piece in Rolling Stone about the housing market crash and bailout.

We are in very dangerous times. California is already a banana republic. It has been a bell-weather for 60 years. State-owned media is a hallmark of oppression. Ironically the media handed over the keys to the kingdom voluntarily. We can blame the education system (and I do), but the voters are to blame for electing people who promised something for nothing.
It's the same methodology as a felon offering candy to a child to get into the car. The child who has been taught self-discipline and that there is no free lunch, lives. The child who hasn't learned that lesson, for whatever reason, gets in the car and becomes a John Wayne Gacy statistic.
330 million people are about to become a statistic.

It's far from only free lunches. Economics matter. Do you really think that job openings can be very weak due to something like high oil prices? Do you think middle class people who have worked hard and have education but have lost their jobs due to such an economy are at fault?

Media serves the owners of their companies and the profits of their companies. CNN is going to run stuff that gets eyeballs to gain as dollars, they are also going to cater to the interest of their advertising dollars. Fox News is the same, but on the opposite side.

I don’t see any way to have private interest free media in the modern world, too much money at stake, everything is about the economy and lining the pockets of the rich and the politicians. The is the result of capitalism. With that said, the alternatives of communism obviously are an issue also.

Anyone screaming about the other “sides” media bias is either an ignorant hypocrite or a complete moron.

Seriously, for nearly 8 years all we heard from Obama was it was Bush's fault. Time after time. The media has not held Obama responsible for anything. He had the pristine administration free of scandal don't you know. They just didn't anticipate Trump beating Hilary and needing to cover up as much stuff.

Its about viewers in different time slots. They talk about it all the time which would obviously lead to advertisers wanting to be on those stations. Fox is headed left and Newsmax is taking their place as the conservative voice.

Official government data shows unemployment down to about 4.7% at the end of Obama's second term. From the almost 8% he inherited. Even Republicans can't deny government data. And they have not updated it because I often look at this data For years.. And the media can't lie about it one way or another.

I often ask the Republicans on the Penn State board what Obama should have done at the height of the great recession. I even ask if they think tax cuts would have put 8 million back to work. I usually get silence.

Care to speak about Obama’s poor unemployment rate and GDP growth for majority of his time served in office?

This isn't something out of the ordinary. No different than Obama fans never placing blame on Obama for any problems from 2017-current.

I was sarcastically referring to the strong penchant here for blaming Frost’s struggles in the first couple of years on Riley - Pelini

I'd be happy to. First he entered into a situation with employment losses of hundreds of thousands per month.
Then his stimulus was too low because that was all he could get from Republicans in the Senate. By about $200 billion per year. Dems did try to push highway bills for job creating stimulus but Republicans balked on a gas tax increase to pay for it. No doubt Republicans would have also blocked it even with no tax increase. The job increase would lowered the deficit than the spending amount.

Although the stimulus was not nearly enough, it still resulted in many improvements such as the unemployment rate, deficits and the poverty rate. By the end of Obama's term, the unemployment rate was about 4.7% which is not historically bad. GDP under Trump has not been higher than Obama's on average.

Look at the employment participation numbers. One of the things that was going on during the Obama admin was people dropping out and staying out of the work force. Lots of people way past unemployment and many more moved into government programs - disability. I know some medical people who saw an explosion of this.

Leaving a high paying job at the guardian to start a new company and then when that company becomes successful, leaving it to go on his own at substack doesn't really sound like the characteristics of a grifter but that won't stop establishment wackos from trying to gaslight us into believing he is one.

Republican H.O.R. since Jan 2011. Most of the blame for slow economic growth goes to them.

Do you ever ask them if they think forcing people to pay thousands of dollars more for insurance was a good idea?

As opposed to hiring during the last 4 years when you don't even need a resume for some jobs.

That also occurred during the Obama years. In quite a few industry sectors especially tech. And in the last four, still many people can't find jobs. Of course Trump couldn't have nudged the unemployment rate down 1% without increasing deficits.

Curious who you would suggest for righties? Are there any honest righties? I don't know Whitney Webb, but Greenwald & Fang write for The Intercept. Taibbi for Rolling Stone. So they are reporters, not opinion writers. Genuinely curious who the right considers "honest".

You love to talk about Obama’s final year. What about years 1-5... unemployment was higher than it is now.. during a global pandemic. Thank goodness Trump was in charge during this pandemic and our economy rebounded nicely.

The month Obama won office, unemployment rate was at 6.8. End of 2019 was all the way up to 9.9. He wasn’t able to get under 9 until another two years.

What pandemic kept Obama’s numbers so terrible for so long? Oh just his poor policies. Obama would of taken 8 years to get our unemployment levels repaired after COVID, where Trump took seven or eight months.

GDP growth has been 0.5% better under Trump than Obama. You obviously aren’t a numbers guy. Half a point might not sound like much to you, but it’s a HUGE improvement.

I know people were unhappy about it. I did not support Obamacare.
Forcing people to spend more for insurance is misleading. Before the ACA, insurance premiums were going up 10% a year. When you factor in the subsidies that most people got to buy insurance, almost half of those who signed up for ACA saw their rates go DOWN. On the flip side, about 40% saw rates increase, but the coverage they received under ACA was broader & better. ACA also meant that US cut the number of uninsured folks by half. I know the right wing has made demonizing ACA as a central part of its belief system. But like most anything else the right wing pushes, some truth, mostly lies. Right wingers love to WANT to believe that bad Obama designed some Gov controlled system that wrecked health care. In truth, millions of people were able to get health care for the first time, pre-existing conditions were no longer legally used to keep people from getting insurance, and yeah, in some states, heath costs went up - - although costs were already going up 10% a year anyway. Don't let facts get in the way of a good repeal Obamacare rant tho. Let those right wing ghouls lead you around by the nose.

Your data is wrong. Unemployment was up around 10% in '09 after financial crisis that happened under GW, but then it steadily dropped all the way below 5% when Obama left office. It continued on that path during Trumps admin until he completely bungled response to Covid. Even that context, unemployment up around 10% after financial crisis in '08, and then sloping down through Obama years to less than 5%, shows you that Trump did nothing special. If you believe Obama unemployment rates were higher than they are during Pandemic, you've been seriously misled. If you think economy has rebounded from Pandemic, you have also been misled. Here's a thing that might be helpful for you: if Trump says something, it isn't automatically true. If you WANT something to be true, it doesn't make it true.

You kidding right? Until the scamdemic we had more jobs than people. Black employment was at record highs.
