He's already over 1000 points as a sophomore and a few weeks ago he scored 51 points and only played 17 minutes of game action. Absurd numbers

I’m assuming the GW/Salem game would be played at the gym at GW and not Averett or another location. Anybody know where this game would be played?
@BoKnowsSports said he saw somewhere the Salem/GW game is at Averett but don't know if any more info has come out on that one.

Anyone know if Glass and Salem have played this year? Maxpreps has Glass beating Salem twice but it's in as the Salem HS in Virginia Beach and not the Spartans. I assumed that both of those games were actually against our Salem but Maxpreps is not the most trustworthy, of course.
If they have already played and Glass did indeed win twice, I'd expect a tight game in a potential round 3 to get into the state tournament. Really hard to beat a good team three times and Salem is a very solid basketball squad.
Glass actually played Salem VA Beach. Travelled there for the first game, and hosted them two weeks ago.
GW and Salem would both give Glass a game no doubt about it.
Wow, that's awesome scheduling for both teams...literally across the state. It's funny how I immediately assumed that Maxpreps was wrong...I was like "no way they played Salem VB, that's gotta be the much closer Salem, right?"
Makes this region even more intriguing. I will still go with my pick of Glass and Handley in the 4D ship.

You have to have a certain capacity in order to host regional games. GW’s gym isn’t complete so I’m assuming that’s why it’s being played at Averett. Would be nice if this region’s semi’s and final was played in Charlottesville.

Get there early, parking fills up quickly. Fairly easy to get to. Just beyond the Wal-Mart if you're coming from riverside dr. It's a nice gym. Will be a good one. I think Salem has the players to make a little run in the region. Aside from the Northside losses, they were able to avenge both PH and Glenvar down the stretch. Foxx, Boles, and Brown will give GW all they can handle. Also, it will be interesting to see which GW shows up. Played better the last few games after that loss to Northside, but I think the competition Salem faced will have them very prepared.
District2, I don't know what type of deal VHSL has with Maxpreps but you all should talk to them and see if you all can become the go to guys for postseason basketball. It's awful they don't have brackets up yet. VHSL should give it to someone who actually cares about Virginia High School sports. Maybe make a joint pitch with Matthew Hatfield and Bob Alvis.
So true. I keep checking and nothing. Fortunately several teams have tagged us on X/Twitter. I believe I've seen/retweeted the 4D, 3C, and 3D brackets. Still waiting on more. I'll try to add them here.
Just want to point out a few facts over the past few games since GW lost to Northside they have changed up a few things they are looking better since. I have not seen Salem play this year but I do know that GW has not lost a game in Danville this year. Losing LJ was huge. This game will be good for both teams let’s see what happens.
Hopefully the brackets get released today. Still nothing on the VHSL site.
A few of my guys from Martinsville has a network on Facebook called “The Sixth Man Sports Network” and I’d be willing to bet that they’re going to air the game.
We were able to talk to Garst at Salem and Best at Glass last night, shameless plug, and both mentioned just how tough the South was with a combined 10 losses between the 3. Going to be a great slate of games. We were enamored with Coach Best and his convo on the culture he has created at Glass. We did not realize Garst has been at Salem for almost 20yrs. Some really good coaches in our area guys.
Garst daughter (Carlye) could hoop too when I was in high school. Salem has had some hoop talent (boys and girls), think they’re gonna make some noise this year.
Got to listen to this today, thanks for sharing. I played against Salem and Garst my junior year and Glass and Best twice my senior year. I am such a huge fan of Coach Best...lots of great wisdom and how he gets his guys to play the way they do, which, as he said, is not an easy thing to do with high school kids.
Completely agree on the Region 4D format. Charlottesville and Millbrook are the 2 and 3 seeds in the north (14-9 and 14-10 respectively) whereas GW and Salem are 18-3 and 19-4 as the 2/3 seeds. Coach Best mentioned that last year was a similar situation where he thought Charlottesville and Handley were the best two teams in the region and they had to play in the semis and only one team got to move on to states. It's insane how two of Handley, GW, Salem, and Glass won't move on.
Here's how the bracket would look if they seeded 1-10. I understand why they do the north/south subregion for travel purposes, but this looks even more fun to me.

Would be some long road trips with Millbrook going all the way down to Salem and then Salem having to come back up to Winchester to play Handley two days later if they won. Still, I think this format is 100% more fair to the teams in the region, at least it evens out those top four seeds to two and two on each side of the bracket.
I haven't been able to watch a lot of Salem this year but Garst does a great job as well, there are some REALLY good programs in the Roanoke area so whenever Salem has a great year like this it's very impressive. That GW/Salem game will be probably two of the best teams in a round one region game in the entire state this year.
Great comment. I'll even add to it that, as a former player, we looked forward to those long trips. It just makes the postseason that much more special. Traveling to different parts of the state and seeing the gyms/fields and their fans. Definitely would like the region to scrap the north vs south.
Could not agree more. Plus you get out of school early! GW Danville bus would probably leave for Handley when school starts!
