I guess this is kind of a rebuttal to all the "well we beat 2 ranked teams" posts.

It appears more and more that the Stanford win was a fluke in which the Cardinal was totally asleep after traveling to Evanston. And the narrow win at Duke? Well now Duke's best wins are against BC (0-4 in ACC) and Georgia Tech (0-4 in ACC). Let's also not forget that Minnesota was beyond banged-up when they came to town.

As the title states, I'm seeing more and more to be pessimistic about. The offense is an absolute mess, the defense has been totally exposed being pushed around at will the last two weeks, and special teams adds no value whatsoever.

Michigan admittedly looks quite strong, improving each week despite starting Iowa's 2014 QB reject. But Iowa was dinged-up on both lines, down to walk-ons and true freshmen on the o-line and missing their best player on d-line. And these were the areas where they dominated the most!

If the Stanford and Duke wins are red herrings, as I believe, where does that leave this team? Last year was a huge letdown, but there were significant injuries throughout the entire season. I worry that the supposed improvement exemplified by the 5-0 start this year is a mirage despite being relatively healthy. Is this a Glen Mason Minnesota team that looks good in weak non-B10 play, then gets smoked in conference and crawls into a crummy bowl game?

I have contacted Rivals' head office to ascertain if that photograph violates the terms of service. I am sure that it does, although I cannot put my finger on the exact prohibition. In the event that it does not, it at least violates the rules of human decency.

After forwarding a copy of that photograph to rivals , I received a reply from the head of technical support chastising me for photoshopping a picture of Captain kangaroo.

It just got worse. I have received threatening emails from the ASPCA and the Anti-Defamation League of the B'nai B'rith threatening me with legal action for doing whatever I did to make the person in that photograph look that way.. They warned me not to email that photograph to anyone else. I responded by informing them that it will soon be Halloween, and the correct response to receiving the photograph should be "Treat!".

Good post. Though I don't see it happening, I prefer Zook's final season as the benchmark for schedule-driven mirage starts. He was fired after six wins followed by six losses.

There's a thought that Hollywood Kliff Kingsbury might be on the Mason plan as well.

Legitimately, NU just played the two best teams on its conference schedule. I could actually see anywhere from zero to five wins the rest of the regular season. I don't even have a guess on the number.

You're the Dude?

I go to the grocery store in my bathrobe and slippers.

I also had a friend (RIP) who was a carbon copy of Walter Sobchak: big, loud, surly guy (former Purdue walk-on) who had dozens of compound bows, crossbows, a musket, rifles, shotguns, O/U combos (turkey guns), handguns, semi-auto and automatic assault rifles, derringers, zip guns, swords and even a live grenade ("for real jams"...he kept it in his car).

The REAL Walter Sobchak with a redtail hawk.
