It's worth a try. And yes, I realize that many say he's in Cincinnati waiting on the OSU job opening up but who really knows when Day leaves? Throw a ton of money at him and see what happens

It's pretty well known that the only two HC jobs that Fickell is interested in are OSU (of course) and Notre Dame - I believe he's a devout Catholic. He might get his wish with ND if Marcus Freeman doesn't turn things around quickly

Absolutely worth the phone call. I think this is a harder sell than Meyer. Day is going nowhere and ND will not fire Freeman after one season short of going 1-11. I think Fickell will stay put, honestly.

I like Luke as a coach, but not as NU head man.

So you hire Fickle, and he does relatively well. As soon as that Ohio State, Notre Dame job opens up he's gone. That man has the state of Ohio running through his veins. Notre Dame is a close second as just about any Midwestern Catholic would attest to.

I understand but Fickell seems to be brought up or contacted every time a HC job opens up. He turned down MSU and supposedly had no interest in the USC job. Maybe worth a try - can't hurt - and lock him into a long term contract

Fickell is a darn good coach. Would be the best guy to try and get. But Having turned down MSU and USC, seems unlikely he’d be interested in Nebraska.

He may have his heart set on OSU or Notre Dame. And if we hire him he may bolt for one of those schools. But there is also the possibility that neither of those schools would want him. And we sure as hell could use someone here of his caliber. We have all been saying that we want a proven D1 head coach who has been successful. Well... there you go. Furthermore, taking him would be a lot better, a hell of a lot better, than some desperation hire after everybody turns us down.

Nebraska certainly has the history, fan support, and commitment to football- but Cincinnati may be a better coaching situation. Better recruiting base and with the new 12 team playoff system, it may be easier to win the Big 12 or win enough games to be an at-large bid than many other P5 Conference Programs.

Fickell is one I'd love to see at Nebraska and after listening to Trev Alberts talk about values he wants to see in a head coach Fickell checks all the boxes. I've been a advocate for wanting Meyer to come here but after listening to Alberts I doubt Meyer even gets a call from Alberts, unfortunately. I want a coach who can turn our football program around quickly because it's not going to get any easier with the expansion of the BIG, Meyer could do it but he does have baggage.
