I'd certainly like if he blew up like his brother.

A lot of people in my area are talking about Girard. His school is about 45 miles away from me. I trust he lobes Duke. Most kids around here are looking at UConnvict and Syracuse, among others. Work you magic coaches!

I lobe Duke too. As a matter of fact...I lobe all of you. At the end of the day...all we need is lobe. I wish lobers of this board would remember that. It would make it a much more lobing place.

I know that some of you may not find this finny....but I still lobe you. :D

Capel has been a huge asset for our program, but I'm pretty sure K can still recruit without him. How about this sales pitch...

Coach K: "Hi, I'm Coach K and I've coached the likes of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry on the US National Team. I've helped guide Team USA to 3 Olympic Gold Medals and 2 World Championships. I've also won 5 National Championships and won more games than any coach in College Basketball history. Would you be interested in joining our program?"

Recruit: "Nah, man! You ain't black!"

I probably don’t give racism enough credit cause I don’t see it, I’ve got loads of black friends , real friends, and I just think racism is stupid ********. If you’re good to me , I’m good to you, end of story.

I feel exactly the same way. But I do believe it's real, and some of my friends, not many, but a few have told me stories that blow me away. I have also witnessed some of it. It sucks but it's life and I don't think it ever changes. Now, do some use it? Or blow it out of proportion? I've seen that too

Luckily we had Capel here recruiting when we went after Grant Hill, Jaywill, Brand, Boozer, and Battier, and, and, and, !!! :D

Great players!!! Jabari Parker,Jalil Okafor, Tyus Jones, Justise Winslow, Brandon Ingram (mainly cause UNC was under investigation), Harry Giles, Jason Tatum, Frank Jackson, Marvin Bagley, Wendell Carter, Trevon Duval, Gary Trent, R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson, Cam Reddish, and Tre Jones (prob not OAD but who knows said the same about his brother) not saying coach K would not have got majority of these guys without Capel, just saying there has been a MAJOR up tick in Duke recruiting when Capel came back.

There will be a change in philosophy because of the new NBA rules that will be implemented also because of the departure of Capel. I do not care because Coach K has proven he does not need top talent to hang banners. We will still get top classes just not the "Monstar" type, Jon is starting to become quite the recruiter plus I believe Capel helped with they way city/urban high school kids perceive Duke.

This. We seemed to have major issues with this until we landed Kyrie. And we haven't looked back since.

Surely Capel helped get this all started, but the Duke Brotherhood is MUCH bigger than 1 assistant coach, regardless how good of a recruiter he was.

I agree it is, just saying Capel helped us get MAJOR lottery pick talent not just great college players.

I would never knock Capels recruiting ability. It speaks for itself. I just didn't agree that because he is gone, we are going to start missing on a lot of guys we would have gotten. Maybe a few, but I don't think very many

Capel's not the reason the kids started coming to Duke. All the top kids want to be talked about on the greatest college message board, DI. These kids are just waiting in line to be praised, ripped, and adored by all of us old hacks.

I think kids seeing Chis Paul, LeBron, Kobe, etc. hanging their Gold Medals around K's neck is what changed the urban kids' perception of K and Duke. Seeing the respect the NBA All Stars playing for K and the Duke assistants gave the program the street cred. Hearing Chris Paul admit that he never even gave Duke a second thought coming out of high school, but after playing for him he realized that he would have loved to play his college ball at Duke. I love Capel, and yes, he is a great recruiter, but, K didnt just hit a home run with USA Basketball. He hit an Aaron Judge like blast wth the bases loaded in the World Series off a 100 mph fastball. The kind where all the other stars just shake their heads, smile, and say damn.

But that doesn't fit the racial narrative of the day!

No narrative it is facts. You do not have any clue about what is said behind closed doors, if you do not think being Black when recruiting young Black males helps especially with chump in office you're stupid.

Good gosh. Let me get this straight. We will not recruit well anymore because of the President and a white coach. Got it! I guess State, Wake, and FSU are about to whip our tails in recruiting! Better strap in boys were about to go on a bad streak. I can't stand people that only see color so dumb. And Girard is white so luckily we'll get him now!

I can see Jon and Nolan being good recruiters. Players want to play for great coaches, and schools that will help them get to the next level if possible.

And Girard is not a one and done, but a nice complimentary player who can knock down shots and hopefully become a starter by year 2 or 3.

The video commentary is pretty annoying, but you can see Girard working out with Cremo on different occasions in a few clips. The Cremo-Girard recruiting could be a two fold benefit (three fold if we can pull Stewart). As American hero, Col. Hannibal Smith once said, “I love it when a plan comes together.”

How can someone who can shoot like that be ranked as low as he is? I get that maybe he's not terribly athletic. Maybe he doesn't have a great handle, maybe he is slow, whatever, but wow, to score the way he can. Seems like he would be a much more coveted player. I want him at Duke...Bad

Defense, ball handling and size/athleticism

But he’s a leader and he knows how to score.

Even if Girard's only role is as a shooter he'll play. But I think he'll surprise people. With our elite recruits athleticism we need guys who can shoot. Cremo would give us all the ingredients we need for a FF. I agree Goldwire would lose minutes, and AOC, although AOC would still get some. Both those guys would be in a great position to contribute their junior year if they are willing to wait their turn. But who knows these days?

I THINK some are misinterpreting what S Irvin is trying to say. Relatability is huge in recruiting. Many things go into relatability. Color/race is one of those things. I could see how Duke rolling up in a limo, with all white coaches wearing suits could lead a recruit to think he wouldn't fit in. Add private, rich college stereotype to the mix and I could easily see a kid/parent thinking that Duke would not be a good fit. This is not racism. It is about comfort level. Fortunately, K destroyed the starchy, white, corporate image with his USA basketball gig. I am also fairly sure that having African American assistants that were successful players and students at Duke who are also good recruiters helps a ton too. Almost every recruit mentions looking for a good fit and or comfort in making their choice. Race can be a big part of that without racism ever coming into play.
