doesn't sound from the story as though Lewis has a serious problem, so I question your title. Lewis is much less "banged up" than Gio.

Teams are getting much better at defending these QB option/run plays and bubble screens.

You need a QB (& set of receivers...) who can play-action off those looks to keep defenses honest.

Otherwise, you're just asking your QB to be a secondary ball-carrier in a rushing attack that's typically running into an 8-man box...

Was it 2008 when our O looked miserable, for half the season, then we exploded on Pitt and used play-action, quite a bit, in doing so? IIRC we had a very young O that year as well, right? You would THINK this O, with a Gio or Lewis as a run-option, is set up perfectly for play-action so long as the run game gets going early on, right? Maybe this is the week we finally see some?

I think that QB was Mike Teel. With TD bombs reigning all over Heinz Field.
Don’t think we have a QB on the roster with anywhere near the Passing Talent of a Mike Teel.
Hopefully in the future.

A Kill offense is going to get QB's killed. Simple as that. They are often no more than RB's.

Ash is probably used to this with his OSU experience, hence the need to recruit a number of QB's who can actually and are ready to play. Even OSU has learned...I see they run Barrett far less than they used to.

Also, not sure we have anyone with Kenny Britt's talent just yet at WR...I think he and Teel set a Heinz Field record that day, really. 54 points!

I watched the ticker. I must have looked like I had serious problems staring at the bottom of the screen and going wild/ flipping out depending on what the numbers said every couple of minutes. I remember seeing 7-0 Pitt and saying to myself, “gee what a shock”, then seeing 7-7....14-7 Rutgers....21-7 Rutgers....at 28-7 I thought ESPN wad screwing up...I also remember the Pitt board having a Scarlet Nationesque meltdown in the aftermath (one particular poster talked a ton of crap before the game so I was sure to let him know I hadn’t forgotten).

Very likely we will be back to Bolin. Combine that with a much improved Purdue team, and I don't give us much of a chance. Hope we don't revert to the keep it close offensive game plan.

Bolin and Gio, with Lewis throwing balls through a spare tire propped up on two chairs from ever increasing distances.

If Gio isn't close to 100%, and Lewis is 100%, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lewis start the game. But I don't think we'll know who is starting until the morning of the game.

I think Ash knew exactly who he was starting against Illinois for at least several days, if not a full week before the game. He hinted as much in a press conference early on - said even if he knew who was starting, he might not reveal it.

I think the same will happen this week. And I'm glad. It might not be a huge advantage, but it is surely some advantage to creating some uncertainty for the upcoming opponent's defensive coordinator. Why not use every possible advantage?

I'd be shocked - shocked, I say - to see Lewis starting against Purdue under any circumstances other than, maybe, a rampant outbreak of Bubonic Plague. If Gio isn't a solid "go", I think we'll see Bolin get the nod. Kill had good things to say about Bolin's attitude and work ethic in the wake of his "demotion" and also pointed out how well he performed when he came in for that last scoring drive.

Frankly, I'd love to see the O-line have another solid day opening holes for Edwards and Blackshear. If we could work some play action into that, as well as some screens to take advantage of the inevitable run blitz, I think we've got a good chance.

On another note, I've found myself becoming very fond of the Jeanneau 50DS of late. Is that wrong?

Not sure why you are saying this. Bolin didn’t have this issue under Kill. I don’t think he’s telling our QB’s to fight for extra yards like that but I’m sure he respects Gio for his fire.

Like this one? In which case, nothing at all if relative comfort is the goal.

I heard Kill's comments about Bolin, and I do think Bolin looked a bit sharper on the last game. I kind of felt that Kill was being at least partly kind in his comments. Bolin still seems unable to not overthrow receivers on anything over short range passes, and his accuracy in games has been suspect.

Based on very scant evidence, I think Lewis is more of a baller than Bolin and while he may not have mastered the playbook and pre-snap reads, he might make more good things happen in a pinch. So I wouldn't bet much on it, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Lewis start (if his ankle is okay).

I just feel (strongly, I'll admit) that the game hasn't slowed down enough for Lewis, yet. Consequently, he looks slow when he's out there. I'm sure he'll catch up but in the meantime I'm not sure he's a strong advantage. Hopefully I'm wrong, and soon.

And yeah, like that one. But you're right, it's a floating hooker palace. In terms of all-out take-me-anywhere-right-now, this is my baby.

J Lewis spent the better part of the Illinois game on the stationary bike on the sidelines, doubt he will be healthy enough to take too many reps this week.

Inexpensive and super-easy access to the engine, which can be a very good thing if one is, for example, in low-wind conditions and looking to get out of dodge with an incoming hurricane when one's engine cuts out.

I love pretty much everything in the Bristol line. There's a couple of 45 Aft Cockpits for sale which are really nice, too, except the engines are run out. I also like the later model Freedom 45 CC - the later ones have the larger foretriangle with a full jib, as opposed to the early Freedom boats which have that tiny little thing that's useless for everything except... well, everything.

Yeah that was the season we had plenty of NFL talent including a Sr. QB, we started 0-3 including a loss at Navy, and then turned it around to win our last 7 games including the Pizza Bowl vs. NC St. Schiano should've gotten much more out of that team.

I have a feeling that Gio is going to pull a Willis Reed. The game is tied going into the 4th qtr and Gio comes out of the tunnel jogging taps Coach Ash on his shoulder comes into the game and lights up Purdue.

Teel played that season with a broken finger in his throwing hand. The team got rolling once it healed up.

2008 (not 2006) Louisville is still my all-time favorite game.

EDIT: Bad memory, off by a year. Thanks @RUChoppin. I just looked it up:
Teel was injured a week later when he hit his hand on a Cincinnati player’s face mask after throwing a pass in the first half. “Almost instantly, there was a bump the size of a golf ball in my hand,” Teel said. “The second half, I couldn’t feel anything.”

Teel broke his finger in 2007, not 2008 (his thumb, I think). He banged it off the helmet of an OLineman against Maryland on the follow through to a throw.

In 2008, the team got rolling once the musical chairs on the OLine got sorted out. We had a different configuration of 5 starters on the OLine for each of the first 6 games, then it finally "clicked" and the offense got rolling.

Based on? As of yesterday Gio was "day to day." Nothing more, nothing less, so anything new today?

I think the question is how many reps he'll be able to take this week, after taking limited 3rd QB reps for the first portion of the year.
