Would be a complete clown show.
I don't think he has the mental discipline in today's world to be a coach... isn't long until he runs afoul of someone in a higher authority position or just makes important people cringe with his actions, as we saw at Iowa as a competitor and at OSU as a coach already.

I would really hope it’s not Drake… was hoping he would have a hand in freestyle or done something with the HWC/Administration.

The last that I heard of his plans is that he was headed back to Fort Dodge to pursue coaching. Maybe his path has recently changed, and he is making a detour to ISU.

Happy for him if that is the case and what he wants to do.

Cyclone board thinks it's Drake

Thank goodness we got Warner!

What’s the difference? This is a Warner-like hire. Heck, it can be argued Warner was a better hire given his work in the Iowa room as a post-grad.

At the very least, Warner was a better fit for the Iowa staff than Ayala.

(I’d have preferred someone outside the Iowa family for the Warner hire but that train has left the station.)

If true. Good for Ayala and good for ISU. Good addition by Metcalf. They need a lightweight coach and he would help as thats about as good a practice partner you can get in any room. Plus he is closer to his hometown.

We can be happy for all parties here while still recognizing its not exactly a hire (like Warner) that will shift the NCAA team landscape.

I'm happy for Drake if true. Taking a college coaching job an hour from his hometown is a no brainer. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us. He hosted a ton of our recruits and was in their corners at the US Open. He's gonna be big for ISU at recruiting in state talent and gives them a Sebolt pipeline. Wish we would've been able to keep him on at HWC.

I feel the same, but it's hard to question those who have started to get a hesitation in saying they think he's going to win. To most, myself included, Spencer Lee is akin to Chuck Norris and seeing him lose more more often in this last year might leave some hesitating.

He's still the guy, but I'm more nervous now watching him that I ever have been.....

Rumored to be on Iowa State University's wish list?

Congrats to Drake (allegedly). I’m like bro a few posts up…Drake has earned a happy “fare thee well” from Hawk fans even if Ames is where he lands.
Good for Drake - allegedly. It's a free market for employment and I'm glad he found something. In case anyone has forgotten - Gable did come from Iowa State to Iowa. Let's just hope it doesn't turn out the same.

it won't.

But it's a great hire for them. Drake truly wants to coach and had some other D1 offers. Definitely seems like a lifer coach.

Big congrats to Drake assuming he takes it.

One thing I raised my eyebrows at was the fact he spent last week coaching many Iowa recruits at the U.S. Open. Hopefully the lines of communication were open about the subject with Tom and Terry otherwise I could see how that might rub them the wrong way.

If you want a 4th seater, Warner is a very good selection for what we need. He's very well like and smart asf about the sport.

For what we need? Lots of people are well liked and know the sport.

If true, at least we know ISUs light weights won't be good at scrambling or have any top game...

I guess this is meant for me so….

Who would you want to be #4? Warner’s a 4x AA, finalist, and can roll with our bigger guys. He's a Hawk who stuck around after graduating and worked with a bunch of guys. This included Buchanan. IMO, the only other guy in the Hawk orbit was Buchanan himself and he is focusing on competition through 2028.

We’ll see what the divide is in here around Hawk orbit as a requisite.

I think Warner’s lack of “flash” has soured a lot of people on him as a hire, which is really unfortunate.

Rightly or wrongly, I think a lot of us here, myself included, thought when Brands made his comments in the Leistkow article that there was going to be some major changes coming.

Maybe we misinterpreted it, maybe he changed his mind. Either way, it’s not Warner’s fault so he shouldn’t be looked at negatively. He’s a great hire for the spot.
