Winston was a rough watch, whew. Turnovers, wild inaccuracy, immobile, truly a 1-2 game stopgap. They couldn’t go 11 more games with that, 4 was bad enough. They had enough miscues where they could’ve lost all 4 as each went to the final play because of it.

IDK if McCarthy will be better but it’s worth a shot.

Didn't think JJ was capable of playing that well, was on fire. We will see how he does Sunday against a good Texan defense.

Giants need to establish the run which has been non existent since Winston took over due to his lack of speed. I can guarantee that any one bitching that Jamis should still start hasn’t been watching his complete body of work this year. He’s been really bad.

Refreshing to see a team with strong leadership and coaching. They pushed all the right buttons this week and now instead of being out of it again before Halloween, the team has a real chance to make a move here after the bye. Looks like they know what they're doing and have a plan, for a change.

That was a great game plan in Houston as 10.5+ dogs! The Texans have a lot of talent, no clue how that football team is now 2-5? IDK what the deal was with McCarthy in Minnesota either, but that guy makes big time NFL throws. He's got an impressive arm, way better than I thought from reading/hearing about him pre-draft and in Minnesota; that thing is a laser. It's only been 1 game and 1 quarter, but his talent and play is eye-opening. Plus he's athletic and has that quick-release, not the windup motion Winston has. Wow.

Sometimes with young players a wake up call and change of scenery is what they need. His interviews also come off mature. Could also be the effect of playing for Harbaugh and the connection there so far.

McCarthy is a very young QB. He has tools…sometimes QB’s just need time. Never thought they could get someone of his caliber to plug in but so far so good. QB controversy next year?? Lol

Shows you how much coaching matters.

This group without Dart, Burns and now Edmonds has no business being 4-2-1, even with the schedule now appearing soft in retrospect.

Thought starting JJ in that environment, against that pass rush, was a bad idea. And that’s why I’m a fan and John Harbaugh has a billion wins. Running for 186 yards always helps the cause. Did starting JJ unlock the running game or did we just have a good week? TBD. What JJ did though was not turn the ball over and make plays down the field.

Dart may just get Wally Pipped.
I was wondering about this yesterday. I didn't turn it on until pretty late in the fourth quarter, but his teammates seemed to really respond to McCarthy, who played well enough. Maybe it was just the right time of the game to see that, but it made me wonder about a Dart vs. McCarthy competition.

1. The Texans defense is not good. At least not this year

2. Dart is still the QB moving forward and a lot better than McCarthy & Winston combined
Texans haven't been good defensively this year, which is why Ryans took over play calling duties a few games ago, I believe. The pass rush is still top flight though -- I'd argue the combo of Anderson-Hunter is the best in the league -- which is why I was so concerned about starting JJ in that environment. Proved me wrong.

Agree on Dart. Let's hope JJ plays relatively mistake free football and is able to push the ball downfield and move the offense at times. If it turns out better than that, it's a good problem to have. But the whole JJ-Dart discussion is wildly, wildly premature and silly to engage in IMO.

Coaching is sooo much better than what we’ve witnessed for a lot of years. Nagy calls a fantastic game and gets our strengths and weaknesses. Harbaugh managed the clock really well yesterday. Should have had that FG before halftime. Hoping Zvada regains his confidence. Dennard calling out the team changed how hard they played this week. They really missed Edmunds. Even though McFadden is a decent backup he’s not as big or fast as Tre. He was a step too slow on their first TD and missed the tackle on their second TD. Losing Edmunds and Burns hurts but the defense stepped up. How about the change in Banks play with this staff? Totally different player.
This staff is impressing me how they are coaching guys up and putting them in good situations.

The NFL is a sport of attrition. With the rules and design for competitive balance it emphasizes leadership even more. Motivation and preparation is key in a physical sport like this. It’s proven that the whiz kid technical types who can’t lead can’t win.

Coaches also get cycled through constantly. Giants finally recognized they needed a proven commodity after the cast they’ve had since Coughlin. It’s showing. It’s not a one-off to be doing this with the limited roster they have.

Nagy has been excellent this year.

I liked and agreed with the move to McCarthy. He played well. Some throws you can’t teach. But he threw for 200 yards and no TDs. The running game and Oline won the game in OT. Not trying to rain on his parade. He needs to continue to play mistake free football

IDK what was going on with McCarthy in Minnesota, but I have been pretty stunned at the talent he's shown. Yeah, it's only 5 quarters, but you see it.

How many 21-22 year old QB's have success in the NFL? Sometimes these kids just have to mature physically, mentally & emotionally.

There is a long list of QBs that were high picks based on talent, but didn’t emerge as a quality starter or better until later and/or a different stop. To your point, some of it is about maturation and development. Some is definitely attributable to fit, staff, system etc. Mike Holmgren once said the worst coaching/development that goes on in the NFL is with QBs.

Just looking across the league today, guys like Darnold, Baker, and even Geno fit into the above description.
