Getting the crowd involved

last years team was once in a generation type of team. crowd rarely got involved. most nights its a tomb
If only there was something y'all could do. Like buy a ticket. Go to the game. And cheer your *** off. Hmmmm.

Rupp crowd is marginal at best unless it's a good opponent , I've witnessed older people sleeping at games like head back mouth open out . Nothing wrong with being an ordinary crowd unless you claim to be one of the best based solely the high profile match ups .
5 more minutes of the mind-numbing blue/white chant being forced on the crowd by the cheerleaders will surely do it!
It's no different than most places...you act like 90% of college games are like Duke. Get past the student sections at Cameron and it's blue hairs just like at Rupp...UNC same thing.
Rowdy is for: huge games (UL, KU, UNC) and the young fans, and we will never have 20K drunk 20 year olds at a UK game. I attend several games a year and I have no intention to get up and scream for 2 hours.

Ice cream stand doesn't open until the average decibel level reaches a certain number.
Kentucky is known for its bad education. Its like no one has at Rupp has been taught that If a team is lethargic, cheering can give them a boost but no, kentuckians are too ignorant and conservative. Gotta wait until UK is down 7 before the boost cheer is initiated.

I'm sure I will get crushed for this comment, but the Rupp crowd is a bit pretentious.
I think this is where the disconnect is. Some fans think it's on the players to get the crowd involved through exciting play; other fans think the crowd should help to ignite the players. I say if you are at the game, go all out (whether your all out is standing and jumping around screaming or if it's just clapping as much as you can).
If you really want to analyze the game and pretend like you're a coach breaking down film, you're better off watching at home anyway (better views, more data, etc.)
In my experience, at neutral site games the crowd is always infinitely better...more energetic fans
Rupp, unless we are playing UL or another ranked opponent, is embarrassing.
There were a few times last night when I expected the crowd to get loud after a spurt. Didn't happen.
Ideas? We could try not to have the greatest college basketball program of all time. It would lessen how spoiled we are.
I only make it to 1 or 2 games a year so when I go I make my presence known.

I was at the NJIT game. It was a very blah crowd that night as well. The only time the crowd really stood up and got loud was when Willis hit his 3's and we blew the game way wide open.
But keep in mind those are USUALLY marquee matchups, i.e. tourney environment or a blockbuster game against Duke, KU, etc.
Rupp is what it is against ho-hum teams. It's one of the best big-game environments in basketball, but frankly our fans are spoiled and it takes a lot to "impress" them and get them excited.
The thing that drives me absolutely bonkers about the Rupp crowd is the COMPLETE lack of help it is during late shot clock situations. In every other arena, it is plain common sense that when your team has the ball and the shot clock is less than 10 seconds, the crowd starts counting down to help the team out (and conversely, counts incorrectly to mess the other team up when their shot clock is low).
At Rupp, this concept does not exist. At about 10 seconds, an annoyed, murmuring buzz hits the crowd. From 10-5 seconds, a noticeable panic begins to occur. Under 5 seconds, it is all out screaming, shrieking, and panic mode throughout the arena.
That is not helpful to our team.

The crowd is a direct reflection of the team. Play well the crowd will respond. Otherwise, the players can expect the crowd to exert energy in proportion to what they see being expended on the floor.
Thats not true, when UK gets down by 7 or more, the fans cheer and try to pick the team up........ What? are they all too damn lazy to do it before UK gets down?
Maybe I'm just different than most, but I like the crowd at Rupp. I've seen games at other schools and experienced some where it's loud the whole time, but there is one thing that I've experienced at Rupp that I have never experienced anywhere else.
Rupp Arena is the only venue I know of, in any sport, where I could attend a game, keep my eyes closed the entire time, and still have a good sense of what was happening during the game just by listening to the crowd.

Don't get me wrong - I know our cheerleaders are fantastic, winning twenty-something national championships. They are absolutely phenomenal. But I do have one major beef. Does every single time-out have to be scripted, and can we never, ever veer away from always doing the exact same cheer at the exact same time-out every single home game?

For instance the pyramid with the gigantic UK flag.........It's never done until the under 4 minute timeout. In most cases, a large percentage of the crowd has already left. I can remember many years ago when we were playing Kansas and it was extremely tight late in the game. A time-out was called, the band played 2001 Space Odyssey, the UK flag was brought out, and the place was absolutely deafening.
How many times have we seen them cart out students from the school of Agriculture during a time-out called by the opposing coach because we were on a run and the crowd was going nuts? I understand that they have to coordinate with the pep band and the people running the sound system, but really, how difficult would it be to occasionally give them a heads up the last few seconds before a scheduled time out and say, "We are going to change-up and do this instead"?

what about to start the game? to build up the atmosphere? uk gets how many home games? 15+? how many times when you turn on a game, right at the tip, rupp is rocking and players are bouncy?
i guess it doesnt have to be that way...i suppose the fans should only applause for good play. but last year when we blew out just about everyone by 20...crowd never seemed that into either.
