More info....

More pieces of info:* If you are slated to host, and your team doesn’t make a regional or super regional, you still must host the round.* No decision has been made on seating capacity limits for the postseason. TBD. * There will be no minimum financial guarantee. https://t.co/gX7bdpr4mv— Kendall Rogers (@KendallRogers) April 5, 2021

So in theory we could still host, but it’s not based on merit.

Yeah we are totally getting screwed on this. See you guys in Corvallis.

Either one of two things will happen:

1. We don’t host because of some BS political maneuvering

2. We do host but they restrict it to like 25% capacity where each team gets an equal allotment of tickets after we’ve had big crowds with no issues for three months.

I know there is supposedly “no financial minimums” but you can’t tell me this isn’t going to go to schools that states allow them have more fans in the stands. If that is the case, should be good news for us.

If they are really accepting bids, then we should be a shoe-in to host. The problem is that if they really just accept bids and rank them on merit (of the bid; not of the potential host team), there will probably be 10 (maybe 12?) SEC schools that should host. I'm guessing what is going to happen is that they are going to come up with a maximum number of SEC bids they're willing to accept, and we'll be competing against other SEC bids for one of those bids, not bids in general.

We should still be ok, I'm just concerned they are going to be too focused on geography, and resist accepting bids from MSU and Ole Miss, even though we've both hosted in the past. If they are looking at LSU, Arkansas, MSU, and Ole Miss all having what should be winning bids, I could easily see them screwing one of them. Especially when Tennesee, Florida, Vandy, and USCe will also haveh competitive bids (although I'm not as sure about Vandy; do they have good crowds?).

I hope Starkville meets the NCAA's site protocol requirements. If that's looking at local medical infrastructure, it could be a challenge.

So let me get this straight? For Super Regionals, you are going to ask up to twice the number of people traveling around the country to play at neutral sites because that ensures somebody has cleared their Lysol wiping dugouts protocols months in advance??? This is so dumb.

So they don't know capacities and financial minimums aren't a concern...

So can anybody tell us what ARE the criteria to host??

They just randomly picking names out of a hat? (doubt it)

Cause this smells like the SEC is about to get screwed. We're in line to host 9/16 regionals with 5 being national seeds. Anybody want to bet that's how it shakes out with this ********?

Can some genius at the NCAA take a look at the baseball crowd sizes at MS ball parks and the declining Covid cases and please conclude that outdoor baseball games are not driving a spread. No need to overthink this...

Oh they aren't dumb, they are just making sure they can figure out how to handle the Covid for the media and still make the most money. That is all they are now, money.

Anyone got the dates for regionals, probably can figure out a couple sites based on the MLB schedule. Gotta think MLB stadiums like the Rangers, Astros, Marlins, Padres are going to be preferred.

To add further context, apparently they are selecting it on merit but only as of the end of April. So nothing we do in May matters in terms of hosting, only seeding.

My concern is this, before the end of April we still have to play Vandy and Ole Miss. Our conference record could easily be .500 or worse. Are we going to be penalized for having a front loaded schedule? That seems like some BS.

So let's see if I am understanding this correctly. The host sites will be determined based on bids, prior to when the selection committee actually determines who the participants will be and what their seeding will be. Wow. What a concept. Look for some really dead excitement regionals/supers where the host school's team is not involved. This is absolutely stupid, and does not make any sense even as far as covid safety is concerned.

That depends on the attendance policy allowed by the NCAA. If they are only alllowing 25-50% capacity anyways, then I doubt they are going to give a ****. This is an NCAA sancitioned event, so I’m willing to bet it will be similar to however they did the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

Nobody can seem to agree on who this 17s over the most.

The SEC? West coast teams?

Nobody really knows how the selections will be made. However, if you're going to include stadiums that can handle big crowds, have a track record of successful regional/super regions, and have a very talented 2021 baseball team, I don't see how Dudy Noble is not a lock - but does the cluster of top 5 SEC teams put us into direct competition with Baum and Swayze?

The current D1 top 18 doesn't leave the SEC footprint aside from Notre Dame and Oklahoma State. I know Notre Dame is having a dream season so far, and would normally be a lock for a regional if they can stay in top 25. Is that even more of a lock this year considering they are the only ranked team from up north, or do they get skipped over because the NCAA doesn't have any track record of trusting them to host, and in a year with a mystery criteria?

If I had to make a completely uniformed guess:

Super/regional hosts:
 • Vandy (paired with Oregon State)
 • Arkansas (paired with Oklahoma State)
 • Ole Miss (paired with Georgia Tech)
 • State (paired with TCU)
 • Louisville (paired with Notre Dame)
 • Texas (paired with Texas Tech)
 • East Carolina (paired with South Carolina)
 • Florida (paired with Florida State)
Snubbed: Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Miami, Oregon

Random ******** that could happen:

 • Ole miss gets a super host and we get the paired regional host, so that if one of us doesn't win our regional, the other has a close by super as a defacto host - which is why my guesses paired hosts as closely as possible
 • They want to spread it out geographically so we see teams like UCLA, Arizona, and Michigan host.

This is the concern, beyond question. There is absolutely zero chance of two regionals going to Mississippi in a completely non-merit based / non-finance based hosting site selection process. Either one or both of State and Ole Miss are guaranteed to get screwed. Its absolutely going to happen.

Regardless of all the ******** involved, I don't think they're that dumb.

If State and ole miss continue to be top 8 teams until the selections are made, at the very least I expect one will host a super and the other a regional, possibly paired. That's two of the biggest and best stadiums, with two of the best teams in the country, and a proven track record.

And my prediction would be that at least half the super regionals will not have the host team participating. Nice move NCAA.

Yeah, seems to me like this gives State a distinct advantage

1. We’ve got one of the nicest parks in the country
2. We’ve got the capacity AND fanbase that actually wants to go watch college baseball
3. We’re currently a Top 5 team in the country

I guess there’s time to screw the pooch between now and end of April, but I’d bank on it being ours to lose right now

If Kendal Rogers is correct that they are selecting on merit, I don't think there are going to be many, if any, neutral sites. You'll probably see some 2 and 3 seeds host, but unless they just stretch to give a host site to a school based on geography, and then that school tanks badly, the teams they pick are going to make the tournament, just possibly not as one seeds.

If they do stretch to pick a host site for geographic diversity, and that team tanks to the point they shouldn't make the tournament, I think you'll see them get a thumb on the scales in their favor to get them in the tournament, merit be damned.

ETA: Apparently I completely missed that the super regional sites will be pre-selected. That is moronic.

Unfortunately it's like the NCAA makes it a point to not cater to revenue producers in baseball after being money grubbing whores in football and basketball. Like when MSU and Vandy got matched up in the supers as 2 seeds and the NCAA awarded Vandy the super, despite us obviously being a more financially beneficial bid.
