Georgia Tech
31-5 (15-3 ACC)
RPI No. 3 | SOS 32
Q1 6-2 | Q2 8-2 | Q3 5-0 | Q4 12-1
Rolling into Chapel Hill on a 13-game win streak, highlighted by a sweep of FSU last weekend. This is GT’s first season under head coach James Ramsey.

Offense
  • Georgia Tech leads the country in:
    • Runs per game: 11.3
    • Batting average: .359
    • On-base percentage: .477
    • OPS: 1.107
    • Scoring margin: +6.9
  • Also ranks 2nd nationally in hits per game (12.6) and 6th in home runs (73).
  • Came into the year with eyes on Burress and Lackey, but there is little to no drop-off after the stars.
    • Lackey: .398/.519/.789, 12 HR, 29 BB, 21 K — top-3 draft talent for a reason.
    • Burress: another likely first-rounder.
  • Eight starters have an OPS over 1.000. This is a lineup that’s best understood as a whole.
  • 28-for-33 on stolen bases in ACC play.
Defense
  • 4th in ACC play in fielding percentage (.976).
  • 28 errors in 35 games as a team.
Pitching / Rotation
  • Overshadowed by the offense, but quietly strong:
    • 15th nationally in runs allowed per game (4.2)
  • After Tate McKee on Friday, Tech has shuffled things around some over the last month, including moving Tennessee transfer Dylan Loy to the bullpen.
  • Friday – Tate McKee (RHP, 6’3”)
    • 30.1 IP, 3.26 ERA, 30 K, 19 BB, .202 BAA in ACC play
    • Has had some walk issues at times, though only 1 total walk over his last two outings
  • Saturday – Patrick Buursema (RHP, 6’1”)
    • Started the last 3 weekends
    • Went 2.1 / 4.0 / 4.0 IP in those starts
    • 4 ER in 8.1 IP across that stretch
    • Early walk issues have calmed down; 13 K to 2 BB over his last two starts
  • Sunday – Jackson Blakely (RHP, 6’0”)
    • 27.2 IP, 2.93 ERA, 24 K, 5 BB, .238 BAA in 5 ACC starts
Bullpen
  • Georgia Tech’s offense has limited the number of true high-leverage bullpen spots, but there’s not much obvious weakness here either.
  • Patel (RHP): 18 IP, 3.50 ERA, 3 saves
  • Gaudette (RHP): 14 appearances, 3.38 ERA, just 2 runs allowed over his last 9.2 innings
  • Loy (LHP): former Tennessee arm, pitched in two CWS Finals games as a freshman; since moving to relief, has allowed 1 run in 8 innings with 9 K, 2 BB
  • Lankie (RHP): 0 ER in his last 4 appearances
  • Barfield (LHP): 1.50 ERA in 14 appearances; inning-or-less lefty who has not allowed a run in his last 8 outings
TL;DR
  • Georgia Tech is one of the most complete teams we have seen in this decade of college baseball. Incredible opportunity for the Heels this weekend.

Great info, dondon21.

When you look at the GT team and stats and details, they are historically excellent.

GT and UCLA, based on their play so far, are far and away the best teams in college baseball this year.

Love our guys and they are really good. Just worth noting for all of our fans that, on the field so far, the difference between GT and everyone else below them in the rankings is actually quite large.

It is also worth noting that in conference play only, GT's pitching has been better than ours in the stats. They have a 4.29 ERA with a .242 batting average against them. They have only given up 79 runs against them.

Our conference stats are 4.93 with a B/AVG of .262. We have given up 98 runs in the same total of 18 games.

Meanwhile, on offense in conference GT has scored 175 runs. We have scored 126. A big difference.

Anything can happen for the three game series, but this particular #2 team is epic-level good. Hope we find a way to win two this weekend! Would be a massive accomplishment.
