OP you are a Moron to want a former Puke player to coach at UK. We’re to have any success at all and Puke need to replace their recently hire coach Hurley would leave UK in a New York second to return to his beloved Puke. This would make Jai Lucas leaving UK look like NOTHING. One of the most stupid posts I have ever seen.

Yeah, like Adolph Rupp was from kentucky. Think he was a Fog Allen guy. Geez you guys. I guess lets get Jack GIvens to be our coach. He is from Lexington ky. You go after the best fit (you do not care where they are from). Not sure I want a Hurley but not a dumb post at all. Get real.

It’s dumb in the sense the neither Hurley is anywhere close to being qualified to coach at a program like UK.

If you look at the product they put out, you cannot argue too much. The way both Hurley teams play is gutty adn hard nosed. Offense is better than Cal outdated stuff. I do not really like anyone right now to replace CAL but want him gone none the less. I would take Billy D or Brad Stevens but neither are likely.

I agree that going to Duke doesn't necessarily disqualify you to coach here, but being a ****** coach like Bobby Hurley does disqualify you.

I don't like anyone to replace him, but we should replace him. Great logic. I would take winning the lottery tonight (about as likely as Donovan or Stevens coaching here.) That is the problem with the "Fire Cal" people. I'm not sure anyone is happy with his performance the last few years, but replacing him is going to be very difficult. Every name commonly mentioned here is out of the tournament, with better teams than we had.

You cannot judge coaching success only on the tourney. If so Rupp was a failure 32 of his 36 years. There are a ton of good coaches. But like Billy Clyde they cannot handle the pressure of Lexington KY. We no longer can get a young coach as he will not have time to learn on the job. Reason Barnes did not want the job is he cannot handle Knoxville let alone Lexington. Bill Self could not handle the KENTUCKY job. It will take a special situation to get the right guy and the right time. Not sure that exists. If we stay with Cal much longer we will never get the all time win total back and might be 3rd on the list. Cal does not care about things like that let alone protecting home court. Hopefully one of these middle age assistant coaches will take a power 5 job over the next year or so and really show us something. If not we will have another 2 year Billy Clyde type replacement and then get what we need.

You obviously don't read this board much. Evidently, final fours are the only sign of success. By the way, I agree with you about Rupp. I watched him most of his career.

My Dad was friends of the program and was able to sit in the stands during practices from 55 through the 60's. Man he had some stories to tell.

I remember seeing these same exact posts about Gillispie after his run.

Why is it so difficult for people to stay away from coaches that find lightning in a bottle one year?

Nope, I meant, Bobby…the last youngish class act coach with a lick of basketball success.
Umm, he’s been at Arizona State for 8 years, made 3 NCAA Tournaments, he lost in the First Four once and First Round twice for a grand total of zero NCAA Tournament win. He is 141-113 and has has never won the PAC. What success are you referring to?

I was high on Dan Hurley for a little bit. But he DID kind of **** the bed the last few seasons. I'd like to see him get that final4.

But either way, I think he's firmly in your top5 for hires.

We don’t need any Hurleys or any former Duke players leading our program. We would be hated even more than we already are. We have always won without flopping and sending birthday cards like they do.

Fun fact, Tubby Smith had a better winning percentage at Minnesota than Bobby Hurley at Arizona State and Dan Hurley at UConn. LOL at rafties.
I was a Tubby fan, I still am. But, Danny Hurley will prolly win a title this year. I could care less where a coach went to school. I'm tired of being turned into Indiana.

I know you’re probably just trolling, but Dan Hurley has made it further than Bobby ever has. Bobby Hurley has never won an NCAAT game that wasn’t in the First Four.

Dan Hurley also took over a brand name program that, up until last year, had more national championships than Kansas.

Your correct these idiots that get on here hourly and say fire Cal now fire Cal now and want the flavor of the week Coach have no clue what it’s going to take to replace Cal . I am definitely not happy with The results the last three years.and hope like hell next year is vastly better.for sure I just don't See a slam dunk home run hire to replace Cal out there yet

Go out and swallow the pride, hire Bobby Hurley and let’s get back to tradition.

From an Arizona article:

Do you ignore the reality that the former point guard and coach’s son wouldn’t recognize X and O if they were on the receiving end of a love letter? Or the fact that his squad can never shoot? Or the risk that the man becomes so intense at times that it sounds like East Middle yelling about a foul call with 12 minutes to go in the first half of a non-conference game against North Central State University in November. Is an aneurysm going to happen?

He probably won’t win a title. As impressive beating Iona, St Mary’s and Arkansas is, it’s still unlikely. He is still nowhere near qualified to coach at UK.
