I went to school with Gerry; we both majored in Accounting. One of the most underrated QBs in Husker history. Would have loved to see him start another year or two.
Was that Peter Tom Willis? His stat line the one year he started (1989) is ridiculous...
Rushing: 117 carries, 925 yards, 13 touchdowns
Passing: 71/136, 1326 yards, 19 touchdowns, 2 interceptions
Those stats don't include the bowl game, this article mentions Gdowski had 2 INTs entering the game and then 2 more in the Fiesta Bowl.
That being said, the 1989 Huskers didn't play a ranked opponent until week 9 at #2 Colorado (L 21-27). The only other ranked team was #5 Florida State in the Fiesta Bowl (L 17-41). I watched that Fiesta Bowl game over the holidays, FSU's QB absolutely tore us apart.
Gdowski was a very good player, but the schedule in '89 was absolutely nothing like those Taylor went up against. In addition to some beastly Oklahoma teams, Taylor played really good teams in the non-conference - UCLA, A&M, Arizona State and South Carolina to name a few.In my opinion he was a better QB than Steve Taylor, only wish he could have started more than the 1989 season especially the 1990 season we were a QB away from winning the Big 8..

Having Gdowski in 1990, on the other hand, would have been a big step up.
I just thought he had better touch on the ball and was just as good of a runner...
Taylor had the opportunity to beat some good teams no question his 7 TD passes against South Carolina was phenomenal, it just so happens Gdowski was at Nebraska at the wrong time during his career too bad he wasn’t a Sophmore during the 89 season instead of a Senior..
So who did we have in 90?Gdowski was a very good player, but the schedule in '89 was absolutely nothing like those Taylor went up against. In addition to some beastly Oklahoma teams, Taylor played really good teams in the non-conference - UCLA, A&M, Arizona State and South Carolina to name a few.

Just wondered, Mickey should a stayed away from the bench.Mike Grant and Mickey Joseph..

I remember, just checking the rest of gbr.Not scoring in the 4th quarter against Colorado was the reason why they lost being ahead 12-0 and CU scored 27 4th quarter points..
Same, still suckedGdowski had a remarkable senior year. If he plays in 1990...we might have played for the National Championship.
By the way, Mickey Joseph was “shoved” into the bench in the game against Oklahoma in 1990...kind of hard to stay away from it.

Yes it was. Couldn't believe the name when I heard it at first. Was that Peter Tom Willis?
wasn't Taylor an all-american?In my opinion he was a better QB than Steve Taylor, only wish he could have started more than the 1989 season especially the 1990 season we were a QB away from winning the Big 8..
