"Russia is expected to approve a coronavirus vaccine as early as next week and start a mass vaccination campaign in October, according to local media. The vaccine will be free."

Fine with me. Let's get the ball rolling and use those Russkies as Guinea pigs. Win win.

I take this as an indicator of how good their hacking skills are.

CIA should grab a dose, get a chemical breakdown, and then see which big pharm company was raided.
Then we indeed keep an eye on how well it works. If it's great, that company gets the windfall US contract.

Thanks. Not sure if it's possible to do on mobile. If it is I'd appreciate instruction.

It is. Just click "share" the Tweet, choose to copy/paste the URL to the clipboard, then shorten it to just the number and put TWEET tags around it here.

We'll know if it doesn't work when Trumpers buy a billion in stock of it and then try to get everyone else to use it.

I just thought I was skeptical about a rushed American vaccine.... I’d rather get covid 4 times in a year than take a rushed Russian vaccine.

Have they released trial data? What evidence do they have that it was effective? What methods were used to determine effectiveness?

These are all questions I would like to see answered. It’s easy to say “We have an effective vaccine,” Moderna, Pfizer, Oxford could all claim that their phase I and phase II trials prove efficacy because of the immune response seen, but true proof (or rather strong evidence) requires more rigor. I’m very curious to hear what the Russians have actually done.

Speaking of vaccines, I signed up for a phase three trial this week. There are four candidate vaccines, not sure which one I'm going to get. I'm a professor, which means I'm going to be mixed in with thousands of college students in less than three weeks, so this was an opportunity that was very appealing to me. If you are around a university hospital, there's probably a trial going on that you can participate in. Phase three trial candidates have already passed limited safety and efficacy standards, so this is a relatively low risk, high reward opportunity you might want to consider if you are in a position that potentially exposes you to a lot of people.
