Looking over our defensive stats from 2018 tonight and compared them to what Georgia is doing this year. Georgia 2021 to this point definitely has the edge, but the gap is not nearly as wide as you’d think.

Conference only games MSU ‘18 and UGA ‘21 (only 6 for UGA so far)

YPP: UGA- 3.95 MSU- 4.23
TDs Allowed: UGA- 5 in 6 games MSU- 10 in 8 games

The defense would at least hold their own, especially when you consider we probably faced better offenses on our schedule being in the SECW. Bama in 2018 was an all time great offense, and the best offense UGA has faced is probably either Auburn or Arkansas.

Also a reminder that Moorhead somehow found a way to go 8-5 with this defense.

You’ve also got to look at schedule. We played Alabama and all of the west teams. They have the benefit of playing mainly weaker teams from the east.

We missed a real chance in 2018. That team could have been special with the right coach.

We are 10-2 minimum if Mullen stays for 2018. If we can ever have a defense like that while Leach is here, with the way his offense just holds the ball and wears down the opponent, we would be a nightmare to deal with.
