Georgetown Exhibition Expectations?

Plenty of threads recently on the prospects of the 20-21 season, as we continue to inch up on this coming season itself. Look, I know playing Georgetown in an exhibition poses less of a match-up than the Blue-White game, but only five CATS can be on the floor at a time. So this is certainly more of a tune-up than what we've seen with this team so far. What are some things you'd love to see? For me:

- Ashton Hagans knocking down a few threes, along with some strong drives/lobs to the rim. A 3-for-5 night beyond the arc would be a pleasant sight.

- Quickley continuing to show that "he isn't even the same guy."

- EJ proving that he can be a focal point for this team. I'll take a double-double, please.

- For Big Nick I'll get more specific. I want to see him get a big block, run the floor, and put home a monstrous dunk on a lob from Maxey. GC calls timeout, and it's Nick himself pumping up the crowd with two arms flapping up and down, as if to say, "Are you not entertained!?"

- For the newcomers, show us why there was plenty of hype surrounding each of you. Don't have to be perfect, but show those flashes of what we could see over the next few months.

Overall, just looking for balance. Let's show that we can play two-way basketball with several weapons on the court that can beat you. I can't wait.

Just dominate. Doesn’t matter what they do individually because it doesn’t project. Some have teams looked unstoppable then play a D1 team and lose, some dominate then go on to dominate good D1 teams.

This is their roster. 5 guys who are 6’7 or taller but no one is over 6’8. Not a ton of size but not absolutely dreadful in size either.

Apparently they won the NAIA national championship last year. Not sure who left but they’ve got a good amount of seniors.

I fully expect for us to blow them out, but it’s also nice to see they aren’t some bottom dweller NAIA team. Probably comparable to a strong division 2 team.

Will be interested to see our team when Hagans is on the bench. Do we have a 2nd guard that can effectively run the team. Want to see the perimeter play of Brooks and Whitney as i think their development is really the key to this team. Want to see improvement of NR and EJ.

Really what im gonna be looking at to start the year in general.

It will be good to see them play someone in a different uniform. I hate the seven month break. Ready to watch some damn ball.

Defensive intensity. Would love to see a 'we are going to shut your shiz down' swagger.

I will enjoy the entertainment of watching the game but making conclusions on what happens is tough. Nick has looked good every year in the first part of the pre-season or again bunny teams. Then he disappears. I have felt it is when the competition is better he just is more a liability than a benefit. My preference would be as someone mentioned above, show me effort running the court, not being pushed around when rebounding, catch passes without fumbling, and control the paint. Sestina I would like to see play physical on the interior and show some back to the basket offense. EJ, read Sestina. Hagans and Maxey together to see what that is like defensivly, and Quickly, Hagans, and Maxey to see what that is like overall. Others to just observe and see how the pieces fit, their strengths and weaknesses to work on.

EJ scoring a bucket that’s not a put back or lob. He’s got 40 minutes to show he’s capable of it, all I’m looking for.

There have been plenty of garbage men that were extremely valuable. I don't see anything wrong with being that type of player. I just don't remember one for a while. It seems Randle was partially one. The problem is when you're a garbage man and you don't put baskets back.

Randle was pretty dang dominant and did a lot of things if I remember.

Don't be surprised if G-town keeps it close going into the second half. They have a good nucleus back from their national championship, have senior leadership and want to prove something. This is our first game for several young players. I still think we pull away and win handily by 17 or more but don't get too upset if we don't win by 50! I think it may be a high scoring game though. 103-85

UK was awful in the exhibitions last year which led to the putrid opening game against Duke. They had no energy or urgency. Difference this year is the perimeter defense should change that/create more easy buckets. A year ago they were trying to fit in Quade Green and he couldn't guard Brad Calipari tied to a chair. Now you add Maxey with Hagans/Quickley and that should lead to type of game UK fans are accustomed to. Realize these guys won NAIA title, but they've not played against perimeter defenders like UK will present and that is where you can judge where the team is...if they get easy looks and give UK trouble, it's going to take a while for Cal/Staff to get these games ready for what is ahead. I don't expect that.

-good three point shooting from multiple players to spread the floor

-something new on inbounds plays would be nice

-a big rebound margin in the box score

-Lots of defensive pressure from our backcourt

-something from our frontcourt guys that wows us

The rest will work itself out. We know our guards and 3's are going to be great, but if our 4's and 5's aren’t better than average, it won't get the ultimate job done.

But I'm so tired of seeing bad three point shooting and defenses that sag and clog the paint on us. UVA and Villanova were lesser talented teams, but they carried hot 3 point shooting to 3 titles, we need to be good enough from 3 point range to spread the floor.

not a chance in hell whitney doesn't start
I’d have to go back and reread the context, but I believe I was saying that’s who “should” start. I agree, at least early on, Whitney will start. Perhaps he’ll earn the right to keep it. Especially if he can hit jumpers like Quick and Sestina.

Play good defensively, shoot well, and no injuries.

I don't expect a huge blowout. UK should win by 20 to 30 points, but not by 50+.
