There are plus and minuses for both schools.

Wonder if VTech is still a factor ?

Buzz Williams has them going in the right direction and the Baltimore/DC area is still an ACC hotbed.
Buzz was in Orlando last night, sitting right behind me watching Josiah James. I think he knows he's not getting Mathis.

Baltimore and Washington (two VERY different areas) are not an ACC hotbed, they are a hotbed of talent period. All conferences recruit B-More and DC. Crazy not too.

Looks like Mathis told Diddy pretty much the same thing he told me last week.

You guys are setting yourselves up for major disappointment.

It's important to lay out the facts.

1 - Article on Rivals stating UConn is in the drivers seat
2 - Article on Scout/ZagsBlog sounding like it's 50/50
3 - 247 had a crystal ball prediction for RU this morning
4 - Carey is getting interest from the blue bloods - not sure this really impacts Mathis
5 - Mathis wants to commit in the near future (days to weeks)
6 - Our fanbase has more of a desire to get Mathis than UConn's based on the traffic I've seen. We need to get involved and show Montez some love on twitter where he's really active!

In total - sounds like a 50/50 proposition. We should all be, as i'm sure the staff is already, for both possibilities. This is reminding me a lot of the Jose Alvarado recruitment (hopefully with a happier ending). Not comparing the players ,just the situations. Mathis is also significantly better than Jose FWIW.

We’ll see what happens, but I’m not getting my hopes up. Been through this before.

Article written by UConn stating he is in the drivers seat. I am sure bias is involved. I think it impacts Mathis because they could play well together, and have a game that compliments each others.

Someone please do a master count of every "i" used in a Mathis quote about Rutgers. Include "i" when use in any word, not just the word "I." This will then properly include subconscious signaling and get us the right answer. This is important.

Well, it's true that our mods stated that we would be getting Alvarado, and then we didn't.

B-ball recruiting is very fluid, so there is hope there.

What brings you to that conclusion? All the latest intel is Uconn is leading and will commit there shortly.

Look, Mathis may end up at UConn, but the only evidence you are citing is one blog that Mathis retweeted. Prospects retweet positive articles they are mentioned in all the time. It may mean something and it may mean nothing.

Does the guy who wrote the article about Mathis predicting UConn change your mind?

I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in the crystal ball. That is mainly a gimmick. At least three people who contribute predictions to the crystal ball ask where I think kids are going.

About half the time I tell them what I really think it's amusing to me to see some of these guys predictions who I know I purposely fed wrong info to.

The way I look at it is you don't write on the rivals Network and you're hitting me up for info, so you get what you deserve

I think I might be the only other person who recognized Johnny and I am a metal fan. My mother loved his music.

This is what recruiting is all about - missing on 9 and getting one. It's frustrating and exciting at the same time. I love the Mathis and Mac stories and if they decide to go somewhere else, there will be more just like them. The biggest difference today from yesterday is the quality and number of these recruits is far higher than in days past. Good Stuff!

Chances are you would be wrong in that assumption. Many here were around when Mathis was releasing songs. And even though I wasn't a big fan, he is very recognizable.

So why not just be upfront and tell them that?

Folks, Mathis has retweeted about 80 Rutgers tweets and maybe 5 uconn tweets.

Still not writing him off. I won't be disappointed either way. Wherever Mathis goes, I hope he has great success. I feel confident in Souf/Baker, Kiss/Baker next year.

I like how you started your respone. I get it. My Dad was a huge Mathis fan. I grew up listening to his work. Awesome voice. Very calming.

Not to say this will happen again but 247 sports had Alvarado to RU the morning ...he later committed that day to Ga Tech!! So, bottom line, we still have a strong chance!!

Knowing nothing else, if a kid's gonna choose between Rutgers and UCONN hoops and you have to make a prediction . . . .

After tons of kids left the program and people got fired...when you realize they would LOVE to have Steve Pikiell as their coach right now...you choose RU.

Could be the easiest choice. Someone tweet that to Mathis.

I don't normally tweet but I did tweet at Mathis and Carey a few days ago. Not sure what got in to me but I want to see us win so badly. Worth a shot to tell these guys to come to the RAC. Join me in my sickness if you want to help

I hear you. I want to hear the RAC roar as well. In general, it's a better move for Mathis. We'll see. Ship is sailing on the Raritan either way. Mathis is a great kid, though. It would be awesome for him to come enjoy the Banks.

We are ready to sail with or without. 2019 could be an incredible year.

Like the transition in mindset - it is now more like

We ARE building a winner - Rutgers players WILL be climbing ladders & cutting down nets - you just have to decide if you want to be one!

As a fan who has watched several coaches since 1989 and was here for two NCAA and two NIT appearances I will use the words "not a doubt in my mind" this is the best hands the program has ever been in since my time. It took that long to hire someone as good as Pikiell.

Might be too strong a statement for the doubters but I don't care. I'm sure of it. Come on board or someone else as good as you will. It's going to be a blast.
