Let me clarify my scholarship athletes can’t get jobs today like in my day.
As Big Will can attest, Scholarship players in our day were bouncers, caddies, landscapers, camp counselors, life guards and performed every other summer job you can think of.
Today they are year round training with very few breaks.
I know my brother who played in the NFL and was a total free spirit would have never committed to what the modern day scholarship athlete has to commit too

Name his professors!
Larry Hamm ?
I see...This is about all athletes...as you say. You and I are saying the same thing. The question about how much Geo should be paid is rhetorical because Geo's point while there is an obvious financial piece to it, it's about OWNERSHIP and Loosing your RIGHTS to your own IDENTITY in the current NCAA model. Some see it as a choice, Geo and others see it differently.
Similarly, the modern day slavery comment was used rhetorically, because while there is an obvious Racial piece to it, it's about OWNERSHIP and Loosing your RIGHTS to your own IDENTITY under that system. Some can see the similarities, others disagree.

We still Family...
I ‘m pointing out that you started the “ black athlete” line. This was about compensation for all athletes, a stipend for their work. Was there a reason you specifically mentioned this and was it because in football and basketball there are more black athletes in those two college sports. His identity... Geo hasn’t lost his identity as far as we can tell. . What about YOUR identity are you not concerned about losing it someday? if someday the schools ( and many won’t be able too or willing even Rutgers) decide along with the NCAA to pay Rutgers could fall further behind in that regard. It does not impact most Rutgers alums and fans. Still in 2020-2021 few out of the some 500k alums donate or really care if Geo makes a dime. They have better things to do. Geo will be fine after his Rutgers career...

I followed you because you threatened me with a tracking sensor. That’s probably illegal so I wanted to see what you’re all about.

Two days ago I responded to someone else NOT YOU and you attacked. This is on you. We are all entitled to our opinions. I’m more than happy to disengage here just mind your own business if you don’t like one of my posts or opinions. If you want to debate it I’m open to that as well. Just don’t make personal attacks and threats to put a tracking sensor on my posts and I’m happy to move on.

No apology needed. Just don’t ever do it again.
Lol

Reread your post from the other day. “Censor” and “sensor” are different words. How would someone even put a tracking sensor on you? It’s an anonymous message board.

Recommend you take a computer course or two, stop being a Google JD, talk to someone about your paranoia and flex your internet muscles elsewhere.

The other day he posted about shooting in Louisiana on the football board...what that had to do with anything is a mystery.

To me one of the biggest issues is after graduated. Bball and football players should have lifetime health insurance as they sacrificing their bodies and a lot of the damage isn't known until long after the fact.

Not sure about lifetime but it shouldn’t end right after they graduate either.

You’re talking over $20,000 a year for every college Bball and football player for life?
Who could possibly afford that.
MLB and NFL health care ends the day you’re no longer on the roster or a coach.
I know because after 10 years in the major leagues, I pay for my health insurance.
So did my dad

I'd think D1 college athletics as a whole loses money before playing players.

Before even discussing whether college athletes should be paid it needs to be asked if non revenue sports should exist.

If the answer is yes I don't know where money comes from to pay athletes. (this is a guess) You might have tops 15-20 athletic departments that are in the positive before paying athletes.

Rutgers IMO already has too many sports.

But I doubt we’ll ever cut any more because of Title IX problems.

That was some time ago, no offense lol! I mean, look at Junior Seau, Aaron Hernandez...there's an issue. BBall it's not as bad. NHL is bad. MLB not to the same extent.

I think the NFL could absolutely afford it...at least before COVID they were making money hand over first.

i will tell you one thing the minute athletes start getting paid is the minute i stop donating. not saying they will miss my donation. i will buy tickets and all that jazz but if they can pay the players then they do not need the donation. i however would be open to viewing mandatory team activities as a minimum wage job so the guys and gals can get some extra jingle in their pocket to offset the fact that they cant get the traditional college job for spending money.

I am also opposed to coaches making $1.6M per year. This has gotten completely out of control. $200k is more than enough for someone to coach basketball at rutgers.

This thread is about college athletes not professional. That’s a whole different conversation.

Many schools have the coaches comp paid by boosters. YOu can't tell them what to spend their money on.

I agree...Profit sharing seems the most likely solution.

Good luck with the profit sharing thing. Exactly how can they get that done when the NBA is the only league that does try to have a profit sharing system and succeeds with it. The players are the game in the NBA.

MLB players don't trust the owners as far as they can throw them. There probably will be a strike or lockout next year in baseball.

Would love to see the actual amount of money that the Yankees take in per game with the $18 cheesesteaks, $13-16 beers, plus all the shirts and everything else that they sell.

Best of Luck,
Groz

I am pretty sure I sat in the bleachers for $5 and I am still in my 40s. (Barely)

I even caught a Mel Hall HR!

I wonder if it is true the Yankees traded Mel Hall because he was mean to Bernie Williams.
