They played Lake Forest, Peoria and Prospect in the regular season but they really weren’t that good.No disrespect to SF but it’s hard to assess a team that plays in the metro suburban conference. No real test of strength.
You’re right I misspoke when I said no real test of strength. Don’t get me wrong though I was rooting for SF, I’ll support a former CCL Green opponent. They played Lake Forest, Peoria and Prospect in the regular season but they really weren’t that good.
Genoa balanced? Power run? Anyone know?Kicked a FG down 27-0 ?
Just did some reading and it sounds like they are relatively balanced on offense. Can throw and run.Genoa balanced? Power run? Anyone know?
JCA I believe has about 590 studentsWe’ll, that’s a little unfair. The metro is clearly not the CCL, but 2 of it teams are in the quarters and both have a shot at a title in 3A and 2A. There are plenty of worse conferences.
The problem with the smaller Catholic schools in the metro suburban is their enrollments are down 30% across the board so they now play down in the rural classes. IC and Bishop Mac were once playing each other for the 4A title in 2018 and now are in 3A and 2A respectively.
And speaking of enrollments: JCA in 4A? They’ve gone from 6A to 4A in 8 years. I can’t speak about the economics of the school, but that can’t be good. Hoping for a turnaround.
The school is shrinking precipitously but the football machine is still humming just fine. Impressive.
They’re not in terrible shape although the enrollment has dipped. The reason and only reason they’ve dropped from 6 to 4 is because the rules changed and they’re currently unmultiplied. People (not yourself) continuously overlook that. They will be multiplied again with 1 more playoff win.JCA I believe has about 590 students

Current members of the Metro Suburban Conference have won nine state football championships since the eight-class structure began in 2001. The championships were won by four different schools. Rita has the multiplier applied this year and next. Not the success factor.Success factor was created to equalize the non-boundary schools with the boundary schools. A perfect example of this is Saint Rita. They were 70 for over a decade and fell to 5A in 2019. They were subsequently demolished by Rochester in the 5A state championship. However, because they won four games to get to the 5A state championship in 2019, they had the success factor applied and are now back in 7A.
There’s a certain team in Joliet that may have had something to say about thatFor the record, I cannot speak for the other schools mentioned above, but SHG did not have a "poor showing" in the 2019 playoffs. They won the first two games, and played eventual state champion Rochester to a 42-35 loss at Rochester, and had the ball at the end of the game. Rochester went on to beat St. Rita in the 5A championship game. That was a junior oriented SHG team that really got shortchanged with the 6 game spring season and no state playoffs in 2020. No way to know what would have happened but I would bet a few paychecks on that team ending up as a state champion, had there been a state tourney in 2020.
I advise you to speak with Knox at the IHSA. They were success factored as the attached link will describe.Rita has the multiplier applied this year and next. Not the success factor.
We are speaking towards the success factor and why SHG was NOT bumped in class as they typically are. 2 playoff wins for SHG is a poor showing by their standards. We are not speaking towards their potential in 2020.For the record, I cannot speak for the other schools mentioned above, but SHG did not have a "poor showing" in the 2019 playoffs. This is more up to date over the 2018-19 reference you made.I think you are confusing the two terms.
see page 3 and 4.
“What has to happen for a sport or activity program at a non-boundaried school to be multiplied?
1. A program will be multiplied if it wins a state tournament trophy in either year of the two-year window (2017-18 or 2018-19).
2. Otherwise, a program will be multiplied if:
a. In football only, during the two-year window, it wins three games in the IHSA football playoff series.”
“What has to happen for a sport or activity program at a non-boundaried school to be subject to the success factor?
1. The success factor will be applied to a program if it wins a state tournament trophy in both years of the two-year window (2017-18 and 2018-19).”
No one was beating the 2020 SHG team. NO ONE. That was a Super Team. There’s a certain team in Joliet that may have had something to say about that![]()
Brother Rice is NOT success factored. That rule currently does not exist. Brother Rice is multiplied.I advise you to speak with Knox at the IHSA. They were success factored as the attached link will describe.
https://www.ihsa.org/Schools/Enrollments-Classifications/Two-Year-Cycle-Enrollments-and-Classifications?url=/data/school/2021-23 cycle/waivers-fall.htm
Brother Rice won 3 playoff games in 2019, thereby bumping them. For the same reasons JCA, SHG, IC, Montini, & Bishop Mac, et al did not get bumped because they did not win 3 playoff games in 2019. Everyone needs to wrap their heads around the reasons for the bumping and the recent changes regarding playoff success. If all of those teams had won their quarterfinal games in 2019, this discussion would NOT be occurring. None of those schools saw such drastic student enrollments to bring them down one, and even 2 classes. St.Rita is a perfect example as in 2017 (7A- 1933 students after adjustment) they won 2 before losing in the quarters and did not make it in 2018 (1897 students after adjustment). In 2019, they were dropped to 5A due to their poor showing and 1161 students. (after adjustment) Are you telling me they lost 730 (adjusted) students (38% of their enrollment) in one school year? And then are you claiming that enrollment number boomed to 1915 (after adjustment) this season, a 65% increase? C'mon man. That increase is the exact multiplier applied (1.65) due to their success in the playoffs in 2019. Had they lost in the quarterfinals, they would again be listed in the 5A brackets until they achieved the 3 playoff wins.Brother Rice is NOT success factored. That rule currently does exist. Brother Rice is multiplied.
Based upon their 4 playoff wins in 2019, correct? Or could you explain the 7A bracket appearances every season dating back to 2004 and the sudden drop to 5A in 2019?Rita has the multiplier applied this year and next. Not the success factor.
Sure. That is the “multiplier”.This is more up to date over the 2018-19 reference you made.
Thank you. Beat me to it.Sure. That is the “multiplier”.
Nobody is “success factored” because nobody won 2 state trophies in the last 2 year cycle. No state trophy’s at all last year due to Covid
I think the IHSA dropped the ball here. Wish they would have just operated asSure. That is the “multiplier”.

I’ll get on the IHSA for most things but I’ll give them a pass on that one. Such a WTF situation we/they were in.I think the IHSA dropped the ball here. Wish they would have just operated as
If last year didn’t happen.
Not sure how they came up with that decision but don’t think it was the fair thing to do.
