Knew a few people who played with his dad, Larry, at Cheshire. Larry went on to Hartford where he tore it up, but could have obviously excelled on a larger stage. One of the Cheshire guys remembers playing against a kid named Steve Pikiell who was an in-your-jockstrap defender.

Not related to the article - but check out this shot from Gavin Griffiths - I love this shot and what it does to space the floor.

The last video on this instagram post has some good highlights from Peach Jam of Gavin and his teammates Matas Buzelis and Taylor Bowen vs NJ Scholars

Watching that twitter clip, the first thing that jumped out to me was that he landed awkwardly and nearly rolled his left ankle. Or maybe that's where he rolled it as mentioned in the article, although it didn't look like it - looked like he caught the roll before it would've done damage.

If I'm the RU staff, I get the kid taped for practice & games so his feet remain relatively flat when off the ground and also get him working on proprioception and ankle flexibility/strength training ASAP. That will go a long way towards preventing reinjury or chronic ankle issues.

He sprained his ankle earlier in the week. From some of the shots I saw he had tape/braces on both.

And yeah, Zaza Pachulia approves of that "closeout" by the defender. EYBL=bad officiating. They play by a weird mix of NFHS and NBA rules but by either one, you have to let the shooter land.
