Probably not for another year or two, maybe more.
Okay, don't mean to sound like the typical SPSer, but while our hitting was really good top to bottom for most of the year, it really tailed off after Jake cooled down.
We chased a lot of bad pitches in the post season.
Wondered what Gautreau was saying to them. Either they never got the message or he was just letting them do their thing. Congrats on the recognition, I'm glad we have him as a Coach, but our hitting was suspect at year's end.
Yes, yes, the competition was better... But we were better at the plate than we showed in the post season.

I agree. I understand being aggressive got us to where we were, but you KNOW in Omaha you are going to face the absolute best pitchers every game, due to the way it's spread out and teams can use their top 2 guys repeatedly. That aspect changes from regionals, to Supers and Omaha. So why not slightly change our approach too?We were a very aggressive hitting team all year, Jake Mangum probably being the most aggressive as he was his entire career. I think what happened was that teams in the post-season saw this in scouting us and took advantage by throwing a lot of pitches that ended up out of the zone that we aggressively went after. We were not that bad on strikeouts during the regular season but struck out significantly more in the post-season because I think some of the better pitchers we faced were using our aggressiveness against us. I mean if I don't have to throw a strike to get you to swing, then why throw a strike?
