should spend less time running his mouth and a little more time in the weight room. The next great lineman? I don't care who he is going against, he looks like a high-school kid out there. The Lincoln Journal should watch some game film before they start making these proclamations and the fan base should be more educated before they buy in to it.

He's a sophomore going against a 1st round nfl draft pick that could break reggie white's sack record. It's our crappy coaches fault for leaving him on an island whole damn game.
He should be a guard and not a tackle. If he's ready, would love to see Farniok start at tackle and move Gates inside.
Why are we not giving him help? I've watched 9 dominate him all game and no adjustment. Reminds me of when the UGA de was owning arid a few years ago and Martinez was getting killed
He needs some serious agility training along with 10-15 lbs of muscle before next year. I know Barnett is a great player but come on man!
Nick Gates got beat like he stole something today. That was pathetic.
He did get beat but he never gave up the sack. Matter of fact, their staff got worried Gates wouldn't give up and flipped Barnett side to get him the record.
Man, you guys are piling on poor Gates. Sure, it was a very rough outing, but Barnett might be the best in the country at his position. Gates got very little help most of the game.
LOVED the Gates and Ozigbo double team on Barnett. Barnett's attitude was pissing me off the whole game. However, I have to give him credit. After Gates pinned him, Ozigbo helped him up and it looked like he gave them both props. That may have been the only time he was blocked all night...

Sterup, if memory serves, did much better after he moved from tackle to guard. I am intrigued by the thought of moving Gates to guard. The guy is a beast and has a motor. But he just got totally outclassed today by a much better athlete. Maybe he really would be more effective as a guard
Not sure. His future in the NFL is at guard like Lewis. My dream line next year would be:
T Sarrell
G Gates
C Raridon
G Farmer/Foster
T Farniok

You all are forgetting about Jalin Barnett! Watched some twitter and other film on him at practice. Kid definitely holds his own, might be better than Foster.
No doubt he was over his head tonight. They gave him some help and it helped some but the reality is there were times he never or barely even laid a hand on the guy. There just is no help for that all of the time. When you give him RB or TE help you take one more weapon out of the play as well. Then we hear "why didn't we throw to the backs or TE more often" well.............
I like Gates. The kid is a gamer who gives his all. He also has size and skill. He got schooled today by a great athlete.

Yeah because a guy who allowed no sacks to a top 10 draft pick is terrible...one of the best de's in the college game versus a guy who is playing in his first year at the position? On half of those if Ryker steps up one or two times Barnett is not even close. Some times the stupidity on this board is surprising....The OL has problems, but it ain't gates...The fact that they moved him around should be telling enough
Tennessee was holding too. These refs were very lenient in that regard for both sides. I saw three bad holds by Gates not called. But I also saw our d lineman being held
Nobody has been harder on the O-line than i have been all year but Gates was just out classed but did as good as he could. He was given no TE or RB help which was a huge mistake. Gates is a sophomore he will get better. We need line help on both sides. Screw 4 star WR's you dont win unless you get the best linemen on both sides.

I agree, but ryker always looks like he is out of rythm and lost. With that being said 0 picks is very impressive, I do not know why it is so difficult to hit a swing pass or a screen?
Maybe our offensive coordinator will learn something after watching the game film to help Gates next time. This wasn't the only game where Gates has had problems with speed rushers.
Barnett? Is a stud,considering no 1 st string QB,no 1 st sting receiver or safety to be down 7 with 4 minutes or so and driving ain't all bad.
