I must say as I read many of these posts I am amazed. You seem to want a socialized medical system. Then you have a problem with the war on drugs. Drugs have done as much to ruin individuals and families as anything in history. The problem with socialized medicine is we are now responsible for paying for everyone's bad behavior. People hold Japan's great social medical system.nit then fail to point out how much more healthy they are overall. The unhealthy have no skin in the game or any reason to take care of themselves, that is now your responsibility in a socialized program.

Capitalism has been far superior to any social countries. Again, I have asked for comparisons, I hear none. Is Cuba better? How about Venezuela? Soviet Union? How about those who ditched socialism and are going.bsck to capitalism? Think about how the U.S. comes into history late but now look where we are at in the halls of history.

Remember, the contrition allows us to "pursue happiness", it doesn't guarantee it.
People are now using less drugs than they did back in the 1970s. Drug addiction is due to desperation the vast majority of the time. They are the symptom of a broken environment. Criminalizing them is immoral.

The drug war is worse than drugs and has been a scourge on the entire world.

Socialist countries often get sabotaged by foreign operations. Assassinations, coups, etc.

I prefer a mix of economic styles to hedge against instability.

Similar to how Covid helped the Chinese economy, WW2 did that for America. America was lucky to not get bombed into oblivion like the rest of the world. Economic structures have their place and time. We are at late-stage capitalism. Maybe Capitalism needs an upgrade.

Every generation has their ups and downs. Boomers and the gen x folks whine about China and Mexico taking their jobs when they were just too privileged and lazy to want to compete... not all that different than the perception of Millennial privilege..
Exactly how do American workers compete with $2 an hour Chinese labor? Maybe charge a dollar fifty and work 100 hour weeks?

I work 40 hours a week. I don't advocate smoking weed all day. People should be able to if they so choose though. The drug war however is one of the biggest injustices America has brought to the world.

I don't play video games all day. I research on my time off.

The gamestop event alone should show that the market is not free and it is socialism for the elites, capitalism for the rest. Gotta have money to make money in the system. Many don't have those means so they become the working poor.
You should let me run your life for 15 years. I'll put you on a budget and get you into a strong vanguard fund. You'll be on your way to financial Independence before you know it. Whatever is left from your wages you can spend however you want.

I agree with most of it. It seems the avenue there are going with healthcare is make everyone hate private insurance in an attempt to usher in single payer. Create the crisis you later want to solve.

America is the richest country and I think that is the problem. What system is going to work well in an environment like this? Corrupt corporations vs corrupt government or both. I see no real solution that everyone would be on board with.
Stop illegal immigration.
Stop outsourcing of jobs.
This all stops human trafficking (Biden is at fault here. you see all the human trafficking going on now?)

It goes back to a lot of things the Trump administration was doing right. People just didn't like his big mouth. His policies were working.

You have to get back to an open market where payers compete.. where hospitals compete.. where doctor clinics compete on price.

Get real jobs back in this country that have benefits, not 30 hour part time jobs by allowing corporates to get away with gaming the system.

The big issue is, corporations own the politicians.. so the people you think are there to represent you, are actually representing big corporations, who do in fact fund their campaigns.

Today, the politicians job is to pass legislation that benefits the corporations, while trying to make it look like they are helping the general public.

That is the big lie that many people do not see.

I believe some social safety nets are needing for a safe and productive society. Welfare at least calms the storm. Fear, anxiety and anger/violence are linked.

This "survival of the fittest" system benefits very few people and causes class warfare where we look down of the destitute with moral derision.

All while us "successful" people tread away year after year trying to prove we aren't of the lower classes.

Is this really the best system in the world?

I get that a raise in the minimum wage is loooong overdue but how did they come up with 15? Why not 10 or 11 and slowly increase it to match cost of living prices?

They really should just slowly increase it yearly as to not upset the apple cart every decade or so. But corporations don't care. They will take the short term gains and resulting tumult, crying to the government and getting bail outs/tax cuts.

A Federal Minimum Wage makes no sense. Minimum wage should be left up to the states and cities, since cost of living is very different in San Francisco or NYC than it is in rural Kansas or Oklahoma.

Minimum Wage should also be tied to inflation rate, so that it automatically increases by the same rate as inflation.

All the good jobs are going to Chinese, Indian, other foreign immigrants. Since they take Math and Science seriously and are willing to work , thankfull for the opportunity, and will compete to add value to employers. Mellennials are a bunch of whiny spoiled lazy entitled cry babies.
I own two millennials, both boys, both have science degrees both work their arses off. So, that is a pretty board brush stroke there Westcoast.

I'm a Corporate Trainer and have worked with hundreds of Millennials. Society has grouped them into one mass collective centered around laziness and victimization. It's unfair and misguided.

The majority of them are hard working and driven like people in all age groups. what's funny is many of us non Millennials act like 40 year old, or 50 year old, or 60 year old lazy and useless people don't exist.
Victimization or laziness really has nothing to do with it. We expect better from our government, social institutions, etc. We believe people can work together to make life better for everyone. We expect the government to enact policies that meet these end goals. A $7.25 minimum wage isn't good enough. Massive levels of wealth inequality isn't good enough. Corporations only catering to shareholders at the expense of workers and everyone else isn't good enough. With intelligent policies that are focused on helping the average American instead of only corporations or the wealthy, we believe that our country can and should be doing a lot better than it currently is. Boomers may think the country is doing well enough for them, but Millenials expect better.

Nope. What precisely is the cancer, in other words, what needs to change so that we are like other countries that arent cancer

My grandparents and parents would LAUGH at millennials who think things are tough. They lived through the depression. My mother remembers making clothing from potato sacks. Of not having shoes for the whole summer, since no one could afford them. Of not having electricity or indoor plumbing until she was 13. Of living in a farmhouse with no heat on the second floor. She saw men walk the highway that would come up to their farm and ask to work all day on the farm for a meal. Worst thing that happen to millennials is their wi-fi goes out. People are becoming wimps.

We need to support the basic needs of our citizens. We have the money. We just spend it on crap and special interests.

Start treating citizens like human beings and mitigate the hyper capitalist mindset. We have a country full of selfish people that were raised that way.

Maybe don't incentivize companies to ship those jobs overseas and compete with Chinese labor in the first place.

No, millennials expect to reap the reward without the effort and the investment. The business owes them but wasn't around when the person stuck their neck out and started the business on a shoestring. Again, I ask the question of a country that is better?

It makes perfect sense. I think a higher minimum wage would be great for this state and other low CoL states. Crappy businesses who can barely afford to pay the current minimum wage would close down. Meanwhile better, more innovative businesses that can afford to pay their employees a decent wage will remain open. And since they will no longer have to compete against companies who repress wages, it incentivizes the better companies to grow and our businesses become much more competitive overall even compared to bigger states.

That's not what he's saying. Younger people could put their lives in perspective with a proper understanding of how hard people had it the early 20th century. My grandpa didn't complain, but dang the things he and his family endured. If you were getting regular meals, that was a win.

Younger people are taking over positions of leadership. Let's see what they do with it. God help us if it's a hard left to a dystopian nightmare

Again, blaming the "victims" in this situation is gas lighting. That's what he essentially was doing. We are a result of our time, we didn't cause this. Not taking valid concerns seriously will certainly turn ones hard left.

Rugged, independent, complete self-reliance is getting old for most of Americans. It is a sad way to live long term and we are realizing that. Other countries are happier and healthier and live longer than us so they must be doing something right.

You'd also eliminate some startups and slow down hiring for some companies.

Minimum wage hike actually helps big business a lot. Why do we think Amazon is pushing for $15 minimum wage? They know they can easily afford it and some if their competition (more likely future competition) cannot.

Had $15 minimum wage been implemented 6 years ago I wouldn't have been able to hire the 4 employees I currently have today who all but one making over $20/hr. I wasn't running a crappy business, I was just a new business trying to grow.

Also some industries can't afford $15/hr. A small town grocery store cant pay a shelf stocker $15/hr.

I believe America, being the greatest nation ever, could find a better way than Venezuela or Cuba. It is too dangerous to just get going with end-stage capitalism. Quitting and changing takes guts.

Wanting basic living conditions isn't very self-entitled.

I never said the gov giving was charity. I'm talking about charity between citizens. We have fostered a mentality that asking for help is a weakness and this in turn causes us to resent ones that require help. We pride ourselves on total independence, even to our own detriment, just to prove some silly point about freedom (which really doesn't exist). It's cartoonish.

Great idea, lets shut down all the small town Mom & Pop stores and restaurants, and create more food deserts in rural areas. They can just all just move to the city and work in an Amazon warehouse.
