Basically quick block, bump if you will, by the TE or RB when they go out for their route to help the OL who will engage the DE.

[EDIT: my ignore list included the poster he was responding to.. I could not see that question post nor did it appear in the reply defining the "chip" block. Turning off ignore at the bottom of the page (and not changing my list) would have explained things well enough that I would never have responded in this thread other than to say.. yeah.. Rashan Gary was a beast.]

Because no one on this board knows what a "chip" is?

Beats me, I was asked so I answered. I would think most do but who knows.
hmmm.. must be someone I have on "ignore".. the thread reads like this to me..

Why didn't we chip him with a TE or a RB on passing plays???

I'm guessing he's talking about Rashan Gary.

So it just seemed a bit odd... guy asks why didn't we chip Gary.. and you define what a Chip is.

I was asked what does "chip him" mean by a poster. So I answered. There are posts missing from what you've shown so it could be an ignore issue.

yeah.. I got to read the board more carefully and where something doesn't seem to make sense.. assume it does. I thought they use to show blank "post ignored" place holders. I turned off ignore for a moment and saw your reply had the quote you were replying to as well.. if the system had a placeholder there that said "quote from ignored poster" that would have helped as well. Interesting.

Maybe don't use the ignore function so much. Never understood why people use it, when it's just as easy to skip over posts by any individual and the downside is missing important context in a thread, like this, and derailing it.

Gary might’ve been able to recruit Gary if he didn’t bolt for the NFL.

Think Buffalo herds on the Plains. You would be Hip deep in "chips"

He’s a handful to deal with. I think UM is going to have their have their work cut out for them vs OSU.

Did not read thread but cook g out to HS I thought Gary was the definition of a "can't miss" prospect as I have seen. My only concern was dear old mom.

I only recall him beating Cole once. The vast majority of his work was done against Seymour who obviously isn't up to the task against average players let alone maybe the best in the country.

Well, I had 9 handles on my ignore list and Knightshift was one. I see he has an awful lot of likes so I moved him off. Asking a simple question like what a "chip" was would indicate to me someone who cared about the answer. So putting him on ignore was likely an error. Another one of the list is rutgersal.. and for years and years I liked his brand of enthusiasm.. but under Flood it was just too too much.

But other users have pointed how how much better certain kinds of threads are if you don't even have to skim some of the real negative crap and I think "ignore" is useful there. In any case, it was useful to me to see that they changed the way Rivals handles "ignore". I used to see the post with no contact with a little button to show what was said. That way you would see a reply to an ignored post and you'd at least know there was a post being responded to.. and by whom.. and then if you were really curious you could easily see that post. IGNORE is less useful now because of that change.

I don’t recall the announcers calling his name very often if at all. There was another player on the Michigan Dline who was getting accolades on every play.

They didn't need to call his name -- it was obvious he was an animal all day. Great college player who will be an All Pro in the NFL.
