I'm still struggling to see how UK gets competitive at the level we want them to next year. UK lives and dies by its PG play and all signs point to Mintz being the guy. Hes not bad but he's not exactly a game changer. I'm kind of of sick of UK rostering 6 guys that cant handle the ball nor shoot. Brooks is a fine add but we need to be focused on acquiring quality guards, like a Justin Powell could've been, not the big men for the sake of having big men.

I would take mintz at point over anyone we are looking at. He really needs to come back.

I'm fine with him and think he should've played all the PG minutes askew got last year. Hes a natural scorer who's not afraid to shoot, but not sure he exactly has the floor vision I'd like at the 1. A lot of the time last year he'd settle for contested deep 3s when nothing developed.

Powell was not the answer at PG..he's a 2G or WG...kinda like Mintz and Askew..he's not going to get by many off the bounce..we'll get a PG transfer..Cal saw what we needed..

Brooks would start at the 4 from day 1 IMO

I never said Powell would play PG here. I said I'd like to add more quality guards for depth. Mintz isn't exactly a true PG but thats who were going to start pending a star transfer entering the portal after testing NBA waters.

I find it interesting Miss State is not listed. His dad, George, is on Howland's staff and a few people have suggested he would wind up there.
Going from UNC to Miss state would be the equivalent of dating one of top 5 hottest girls at your school and then breaking up with her for the 400 lb girl who plays the trumpet in marching band.

If you think Cal is going to play next year with Mintz and Hickman as our PG, I don't know what to tell you..we saw all year Mintz and Askew struggle to get to the hoop and that's the main reason we saw the 9-16 record..I'd bet money we have a transfer starting at PG next year

The fact that he's the only returning guard we have coming back at the moment...... Duh. I also said pending a top transfer coming in after testing the draft waters that I dont expect any of the ones in the portal right now to come in and provide anything much more than Mintz can provide. I mean I'll take depth for sure at Guard but Cal has proven that he will start his returning players over middling newcomers.

That is why I don't understand the worry if mintz comes back
None from last year proved they could play winning basketball

Dont lump Mintz in with Askew. Mintz is head and shoulders better than Askew, not even close.

Not comparing
Neither would have gotten time during good times
Mintz would've definetly played on the 2017 and many others as a 6/7th man. You can argue he's not of the same quality of previous good teams starters and be correct but we shouldn't be trying to run off one of UK's worst teams of all time leading scorer and assists when the cupboard is looking pretty damn bare.

Agree on the PG, but we need another big man. You basically have Oscar and Lance in the middle. Oscar is foul prone and Lance is still developing. The Collins kid, who knows - maybe the 2nd coming of AD but more likely needs some weight and strength and he is probably a 4 anyway. Cal never uses the 13 scholarships anyway. Explain to Garrison that he will not be getting 30 minutes a game but he and Oscar will basically split the position. Insurance against foul trouble and injuries. I Garrison wants to be the focal point tell him to look elsewhere. This interest pretty much guarantees that Jackson is gone.

I'm fine adding Brooks. Just so were all on the same page, If Collins is not good this team doesn't stand a chance.

Duh? How many times has Cal had returning PG? Duh?

if you can’t tell he’s hitting the portal hard for a PG and it’s not Mintz, well, I don’t know what to tell ya.

I’ve been on this board since about 2007, you used to be a good poster. What happened?
