I wouldn’t call it a pancake either, but like Pennsy said, the OLineman was already off balance when he tripped. He was going down either way, he just went down faster with the other lineman beneath him.I mean, Davis beats a lineman inside who falls, makes a tackle and the guy Nelson engages with trips.
Mo is god awful. We need him to graduate. There were so many plays where he got gobbled up and was pushed at least 10+ yards downfield.
I feel sorry for the kid. He is game and gives great effort. Last year he was used totally different and many on here were heaping praises on him and declaring him an NFL pick. This has been a tough year for Mo.
Don't let your head drop? He did fine. No he did great on that play. Not a damn thing he should change on that play. What a comedy of errors all around. Two O linemen can’t keep their feet and fall down, with help from #44. Mo is dancing around like he has no idea what’s coming until he gets smothered by a lineman, he should be stepping up into the hole by this time. Dismuke comes around the edge, not sure if he was blitzing or what but he comes very wide and falls down.
Nelson did a good job of keeping his eyes in the right place, just don’t let your head drop when you engage.
think we've got a real one here. kid plays his balls off.
Your comment on Mo is interesting. He is so worried about the lineman coming his was he takes himself out of the play
Couldn't stay away? Not a pancake. But the kid was pushing the tackle backwards which made the tripping possible. He had good leverage.

So what? That's what happens on most pancake blocks. Garrett Nelson was in position to take advantage of it unlike most of the other guys on the team would have been.Second week in a row where o lineman gets stepped on. This is not impressive.

Hey, if I have to stick around and keep posting so do you. It's like a virtual sellout streak.Nope. ha
No mention of Khalil Davis firing by his man and then getting the tackle loss?...all while the cheating Wiscy OL is giving him a hold-on snuggy? What a comedy of errors all around. Sorry, I don't see the hold. The O lineman fires out, makes a nice first punch that puts Davis back on his heels, then I can't tell if the O lineman lost his balance because he got stepped on or not. At any rate, Davis did recover nicely and yes, made the play. I thought that was the most obvious part of the video.
The one thing you generally notice about the Wisconsin linemen is they punch hard and stay with the block downfield. On the play when we couldn't seem to get Taylor down, there was a lineman blocking Mo and pushing him downfield. I admire that trait in a lineman.
The whole dialogue reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer and Neuman acused Keith Hernadez of spitting on Kramer. There had to be a second spitter. It looks to me like the RG reached awkwardly to give the initial punch, like he wasn't expecting Davis to be that far away, and lost his balance. The RT was just attempting to turn and keep Nelson to the outside and stepped on the fallen RG's leg just as he was setting his foot down to re-establish his base. Had the RG kept his balance, the RT was doing enough to keep Nelson to the outside, Barry was smothered by the center, Honas was obliterated by the LT, the only line of defense was the safety coming down, and that is a 50/50 proposition at best.

Nelson has a great motor. That's all that needs to be said IMO. I think he'll be giving OTs fits soon enough. Give him another year in the weight room and I think he'll be a beast on the edge. It's just funny to me that an entire thread was dedicated to Nelson for this. It was a nice play, as was said previously, he kept his head up, kept driving and sort of made a play. But he hardly "wasted the OT" as the tweet says.
As I see the play develop, Davis going inside from the outside shoulder of the guard to the oustide shoulder of the center, who had vacated and was moving to the next level to handle #7 is what allowed the play to be made. Davis was able to get out of the reach of the RG and caused him to lose his balance, and caused him to trip the RT.

Actually that's a nice job of Mo Berry moving and sliding his feet to get in front of the oncoming tackle. Wait. Oh man, for a second there I thought Mo was pass blocking.Your comment on Mo is interesting. He is so worried about the lineman coming his was he takes himself out of the play
Agreed. He's keeping up with everyone as a true freshman as he learns technique and the defense, he will just keep getting better. I've said it before but I think this kid works himself onto an NFL roster someday.Nelson has a great motor. That's all that needs to be said IMO. I think he'll be giving OTs fits soon enough. LolThe Wisconsin OL was tripped by his own man, Nelson didn't do anything but get lucky. He's too slow to play OLB and too small to play DE.
