This year there are no dominant teams -- -a bunch of teams have the chance to get hot and win it all

Championship caliber teams usually don't lose to garbage programs like Tennessee. Defense has been the issue all year long and it will continue to be a problem. Not sure why this team hasn't taken the defensive side of the game to heart but, it certainly hasn't. Might not be fixable.
I just don't understand it with the athleticism this teams has all over. I honestly don't know if losing bothers some of them.

Cal has never said we're a selfish team that I can recall. Have we had plays or stretches or a player or two took bad shots? Sure, every team does..especially teams with young players.

Hey know-it-all, here you go. I really liked this part of the article.

"Calipari said he’s not getting through to a few of his players, who are playing more for themselves and not for the team as a whole."

Just so you know, this isn't the first time he's said this, either.

I've settled on the fact that you are icking fudiot. So I'm just gonna put you on ignore.

Why ignore him? He may be over reacting to some degree but overall I'm afraid he's pretty spot on. We have 3 top 10 draft picks on our roster. That should make us a favorite if not The favorite to win the title. Not that the favorite always wins. But right now I'd say there is a decent chance we don't make the sweet 16. Bad teams are severely exposing our flaws. What do you think good teams will do?

To the most important guys on this team this is nothing more than aau bb and the coach needs to nip it in the bud.

Well Cal may be frustrated by those wanting to get theirs. But for the life of me, I don't see any particular sets designed to get the ball wherever he thinks it needs to be to score in the half court. Nothing I see makes me think it's anything more than freelance all the time. tonight we just couldn't get a break including two dunks that clanged off when both could have been 3 point plays. Just wasn't the Cats night, but if you think there's any real coaching effort to maximize offense then I guess you know a lot more than me (and maybe you do)

Match ups in the NCAA Tournament are always important, but I think it will be even more important for this team. We do not want to see talented teams that are great at driving the ball because we can't stop it. I'd much rather face a good three shooting team because we can guard the perimeter pretty well.

Oh good. Now he's blaming the players for his inability to teach them how to play defense well enough or adjust to what other teams are doing. The sad thing is that teams have done the same thing to us all year long - beat our guys on the perimeter and shoot layups. Apparently it's beyond our coach's abilities to figure out how to stop that.

Why does this surprise Cal or anyone else? The odds say that as long as you try to maintain the program around guys that are here for only one year, you will eventually get a team where one or more players are primarily focused on the next step in their career.

This slightly dovetails with my continuing mantra that we need Orlando Antigua back on the staff. Seems that while he was here we were getting a better mix of players, more appropriate to our needs at each position.

EXACTLY.

This team could win it all, but they just don't seem to be serious about team ball.
Kentucky is 8th in the country in assits. They may play selfish from time to time, but they have shown they'really good at sharing the ball.

Hey, know it all: "a few players" does not equal "we're a selfish basketball team."

You have serious comprehension issues. Delete your account

Genius, those few players ARE THE PLAYERS THAT ARE ACTUALLY GETTING PLAYING TIME ON OUR TEAM.

You obviously like to argue. You do know that people consider the sky blue or the grass green, right?

This year. This should be a game where we run away with the the score, but as usual, it's not. Poor defense and selfish ball play is what will do us in later in the year. These are the same things that have haunted us all year. We are just not a fundamentally sound team.

This team is a good team compared to the rest of the nation, but unfortunately we are not good enough to win it all.
Shot selection is of numero uno importance.

We haven't improved as much and I had hoped we would to this point. What makes you think we will improve to the level that we need to in the next month?

As far as not watching, I will always watch. I have just tempered my expectations this year. No one wants you guys to be right and me to be wrong more than me, but I've watched a lot of basketball over the years and I just don't think this team has "it."

Because I've seem multiple teams do it under Cal, that's why. History tells me that he will have them ready. Every team is going to improve as the season progresses also. It's not like we are going to be the same team in a month, especially with a team full of young players. Cal has proved time and time again that he knows what he is doing. You could go through EVERY single championship team and point out a game where they laid an egg and you could say .....'No way that team win the championship'. You could do that with everyone of them. Even great teams are going to play poorly at times throughout the year. Many championship teams have a rough stretch and many fall victim to trap games and this definitely was a trap game. It's just the nature of the beast. Just relax! We may not win the championship, who knows but it's far too early and just down right ignorant to make that claim off ANY single game performance. Even if you're looking at multiple games, you have to realize we will improve and we will be a different team in a month. Just trust the process and enjoy the ride. Making these types of comments and judgements is just ridiculous and flat out dumb. I'm sorry but it's the truth. It's the exact reason people say we have idiotic unrealistic fans.

My question is, what makes you think they won't improve?

A road game against a rival in the SEC is no indicator of winning it all. The question is what did the team learn from this. We ll find out Saturday bc that game will be a much more accurate indicator of our March chances

Very good question. Usually, I've seen some sort of improvement over the course of the year that makes me think they're capable of making a big improvement in March. I just haven't seen any improvement anywhere with these guys and that just concerns me because I don't have the same confidence this year.

This team has incredible potential. When things are going well they can beat - blow out - anyone.

However, compared to some other young teams and players we've had, key players on this team are taking longer to believe in the system, trust in each other, and become a team in every sense of the word. I don't believe it is due to lack of effort or chemistry, rather a factor of time. More specifically, the issue is how they are responding, individually and as a team, to adversity, to being challenged.

When challenged, they are breaking down and resorting to what they have always relied on to succeed in the past - as individuals - and the team becomes a shell of what it can be. You know they are working their a$$es off to get past this. Some individuals take longer than others. Yes, some don't ever really buy in but I don't see that as the problem with this group. If they get beyond their propensity to resort to old ways when challenged and begin to believe in and rely on each other and the system, they could go all the way. Time will tell if it clicks for these guys, or not.

Apparently, the OP wasn't around back in 2014 when UConn lost to an awful 17-16 Houston team, lost by over 30 to Louisville, and still won the title. He must be new.

I respect your opinion. I've seen improvements. Just remember, there is still time and our coach is the best at what he does.

I'm sure you're here bitching every year like you are now because we didn't beat every single team we were supposed to.

Yeah! Let's just put all of our eggs in the "UCONN lost a bunch of games and won the title" basket. That makes me feel a lot better.
I think we were all around that year since UCONN beat us. I don't think hoping for getting it together at the last minute and having unusual, crazy tournament runs filled with last second shots is going to make the fan base not get a little fed up with losing games we shouldn't with loads of talent.
