Game Thread: Northwestern vs. UCLA

[phatcat_rivals223240]

As the announcers have stated several times their quarterback is essentially the whole team. Got to stop in on some of those runs, surprising we don't have a spy on him.

He's 6'6 and 215. Better be someone good

[AdamOnFirst]

Just caught up to live. The first half was a satisfying and convincing - if not quite inspiring - display of Neolithic, corn and hot dog fed football. MOSTLT reasonable wrinkles and misdirection other than the 2nd and 5 call and simple play action. The tackling is EXCELLENT. Just continue to pound on this team.

[DaCat]

We get the ball to start the second half and we need to pile it on.

First half stats:
Stone 9-11, 104yds 1 TD, 0 INT
Wilde 6 catches, 83 yds, 1 TD
Himon 5-57yds
Komolafe 10-55

Keep it up, boys!!

[AdamOnFirst]

I don’t think Saka was on the field during the end of that two minute drill. Why? Injured?

Maybe the coaches can't find him Because hes invisible

[TheC]

Play action these run blitzes

He has a sack today

[DaCat]

Awful play calling to start the second half. Lujan is terrible.

[jensberg]

Run blocking dramatically different in the beginning of this second half. Could not get anything going on the ground

[GECat2]

When did we stop running between the tackles????

[phatcat_rivals223240]

Make fun of Nico, but he's the best player on the field. He can bust the game open

[TheC]

No spy???

[AdamOnFirst]

No spy???

No, but Fitzgerald was there and massively whiffed.

[jensberg]

Starting to get anxious now. They moved the ball really well less Drive of the first half and moving again. Contrarily we didn't move the ball that well

Last 2 drives of first half actually. Momentum has definitely shifted.

[HawkCat]

Although their QB is their entire team, he is also the best player on the field. Hope he doesn’t beat us single-handedly. The effort by NU in the second half thus far has been lacking.

[CatManTrue]

Their offense doesn’t have much beyond the mobility of the QB.

Still, this has been uninspired football in the second half.

Hopefully Stone didn’t get his bell rung on the targeting hit

[DaCat]

When did we stop running between the tackles????

We had no blockers on two of their defenders on one play, and then the backside DE ran down our running back untouched. Lujans blocking schemes.

[AdamOnFirst]

These announcers cannot figure out how Ore Adeyi’s name is pronounced

[AdamOnFirst]

Good enough hold, I guess. Offense has to get back to the grind of turning this weak defense into beef jerky.

[phatcat_rivals223240]

Let's score and burn some clock

[jensberg]

We need to score on this possession at least a field goal

[cattul]

Nico Iamaleava doesn’t look durable enough to absorb so many hits.

Dude is tough.

[TheC]

Another long TD drive please

[TheC]

I feel like I'd rather have Jake Butt as our offense coordinator

[phatcat_rivals223240]

It feels like we have to switch someone out on every play, and then they get to. Wouldn't it be better to keep leaning on them?

[eddie_gocats]

Still nervous…

He’s 6-6 215, and he looks like he’s a wirey and lean 215. He was 200 out of Hs, so he’s been putting on good weight.

I don’t disagree that’s he’s taken a **** ton of punishment already today, partially because NU has missed few opportunities to absolutely plaster him when he’s a runner, but he was a fit in Tennessee because of his big, tough body along with his big arm.

Still, the idea that if things the offense for the rest of year that he’ll miss time I’d have to agree.

We should keep using the full play clock, they can cycle linemen as much as they want

[AdamOnFirst]

Eligon is so slow the DB who got beat caught up too fast and committed PI getting there early

WRs who aren’t Wilde currently have -4 yards on 3 catches. Hunter Welcing carrying TEs with 22.

[AdamOnFirst]

Man, UCLA is undisciplined too.
Dunno about this targeting call, but man.

[AdamOnFirst]

very dumb

[eddie_gocats]

That sucked

[TheC]

Defense needs to step up

[jensberg]

Scoreless second half. Those four plays from the three yard line just sad.

[DaCat]

******* offense is terrible and now a blocked field goal. We don’t want to win this game.

[Rebel II]

Piss poor play calling by Lujan.

[TheC]

Too easy for them right now

[Harris_Island]

No turnovers, but it feels like the cats are making a lot mistakes. Defense has got to get to Iamalaeva.

[AdamOnFirst]

I’m not not happy.
