Bardo says “you want the official to get those calls right” without saying “the refs absolutely blew that call”.

Man, this game really made me angry.

I mean why didn’t they just do the complete screw job of blowing the whistle on that incorrect goaltend, wave off the putback, then give Penn state the ball on the possession arrow. At least that would have been consistent with the calls from the rest of the game.

"Inadvertent whistle" makes me laugh. The refs were ready to blow the whistle every time NU was anywhere near PSU.

Nicholson clearly stepped out of bounds and those dumbest refs even missed that. We could've had a chance to at least try for a steal under our own basket. They didn't even review it.

The fouls on NU and non calls on PSU were a travesty but the worst part of that was the missed goal tend and the complete eff up on the inadvertant whistle. Just unacceptable.

It’s amazing NU was in that game with everything that went against them. We have a really good team.

I’ve always kind of enjoyed Bardo. He always respected NU, even when they weren’t so worthy of respect.

But Collinsworth is a no-talent nepo baby who doesn’t understand what’s happening and who brought Bardo down to his level.

(Bardo used to be a regular on Bernstein and Boers on The Score … circa 2004 … and it was magical radio.)

- Barnhizer’s basket should’ve counted
- Also, Nicholson was shoved on the baseline
- Also, Collins has gotta send that video to the league
- Also, that was officiating malpractice

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m about 95% sure that the second PSU big did make contact with the rim, but I’m limited by Peacock playback features (and the replay is still ‘available soon’).

So at least the halftime crew understand what Bardo and Collinsworth did not.

I was following the stats in the first half on the ESPN app while watching the end of the ND/Georgia game. At some point, the stats feed stopped.

We could very easily be 12-2/2-1 and ranked right now were it not for some horrible late game officiating.

As far as I can tell, that wasn’t actually an inadvertent whistle. The ref at the three point line blew the whistle, made the twirly goaltending sign. The ref coming from the baseline then followed with the same twirly sign.


So they …
- Called a goaltend while the ball was live
- Blew the whistle before Barney got rid of the ball
- Reviewed the goaltend call, where there really may have been some contact with the rim by a PSU dude
- Reversed the call anyway
- Decided that the whistle meant they couldn’t allow the basket
- Debated whether they should really truly make such a dumb call, and whether they should just come up with a way to just allow the obvious basket, and decided that they’d rather just f*ck NU

That was a ~5-minute review, and most of it was a discussion of whether they really truly should screw NU. And they settled on HELL YES.


The NFL has a good rule about a clear and immediate fumble recovery. That type of rule should have applied here. Barney made the shot as the whistle blew. He was totally unguarded and nobody stopped playing at the whistle. Everybody was in the air or landing or just out of position. The whistle had absolutely no effect on whether or not Barney made the putback.


Gross negligence could be proven in court on this one. Actual malice would be tougher, but possible depending on the jury.

But to be clear, even tho they f*cked NU for two straight hours, I hope they get it from someone else.

But in the event that they all got it from NU, I assume student health services is well stocked with ceftriaxone. (I googled it.)

It is weird, of the 3 the games, they won the one they "should" have won least. Let's see if we can get to 2-2 today. Tough, but doable if we play well.
