The opening possession of the second half was brutal, and that last possession trying to win with a 1-point lead was worse.
You have a point. Conservative run the clock and get a couple of first downs might have been a more prudent strategy. Holding penalty was very costly as well as it may have cost us the game. Another moral victory.
Would've turned out ok without that hold, getting behind the chains and punting from your own goal line was pretty devastating. Still had chanced, gotta get a stop on 3rd and 10 and 3rd and 7. But all love for the defense today, especially without Hubbard.
I am still trying to figure out what the 2pt conversion dud was going to be. I was thinking a pass back to Stone as Himon was well behind the line when Stone threw it at his feet. Part of me was just relieved we didn't turn it over for 2pts the other way...but yeah we sure could've used those 2pts.
Stone made a lot of nice throws downfield today, I don't want to discount that. He kept us in the game when it was falling apart. Then the D really stepped up.
Touche, Corbi, turned out you were spot on. Usually, I feel that13 minutes left to play is a little too early to chase points.. More times than not, I see where game situations change and the early two point conversion comes back to bite you. However, with no further scoring, and that was always a distinct possibility, going for two was a no-brainer.
What do you think they called? That effectively is a wide toss play with three blockers in front. The “toss” by Stone was just awful. All he needs to do is put the ball in front of the WR at chest level so he can pick his way forward with momentum. That is a gimme throw but the execution was anything but.
Having watched this game on about an hour delay… there is some brain melt in this thread. Stone was mostly good stoke today against a team that radically out talents our wide receivers. I have no issue with the play calling either, their interior line ate our lunch in the running game all day. While losing most individual matchups offense vs defense, we at least managed to get Welcing going quite a ton and get the ball outside occasionally. We just simply don’t have talent on offense. The good line and RBs can only do so much when the WRs are almost never ever open.
It was even a pretty good look. It was 3 in 3 in the outside and the third defender was playing in soft coverage to the inside. WR was gonna try to dash behind his blockers and just power for the couple of yards or beat the guy to the Pylon. Reasonable.
