Game Day Traffic Flow Was Ridiculous

Do we not have a traffic flow plan for before the game?

What we have for after the game works perfectly. What we had today before the game was an absolute joke!

To arrive in town at 12:00, and take 1 and 1/2 hours to get from Montgomery Drive to Lot 11 is absolutely ridiculous. Who the hell dropped the ball on this one? The only thing that made the 1 and 1/2 was being able to listen to Bart Gregory and Matt Wyatt on the pre game show. Their show was so much better than the shows of last year with JT and Steve "I Think I'm Funny, But I Am Really A Silly Nuisance" Ellis.

You can't tell me that there is not a better way to get traffic flowing on campus, especially on a day when 50,000 people are in town. I dread the day that Florida comes to town. Hopefully, I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express the weekend of the Florida game and will not have to deal with this head ache.

I might be on to something here....

I park in lot 17 behind Dorman. It was hell getting in there at noon.

Leaving, traffic towards the vet school was gridlocked. So I drove around Allen Hall and down Engineering Row and out the back side like you're going towards Columbus. That was easy easy. No traffic at all heading out that way. Then got on the bypass to drive back home on 25 South.

Next home game, I'm going to try this route on the way in. Bypass to Hwy 82, turn into campus by the MHP station, by Campus Bookmart, down Engineering Row, around Allen Hall, turn behind the tennis courts, and into lot 17 behind Dorman.

...you have now let out the secret for moving easily around campus.

it was horrible. Also, a big shout out to West Point for scheduling the Prairie Arts Festival the same weekend as State's home football opener. It took me 30 goshdamn minutes to go through that ******** known as West Point, because they have 2 traffic lights within 200 yards of each other that stay green for about 1.3 seconds on Hwy 45. Ridiculous.

The traffic there will be horrible even w/o that festival. As long as we've got 55,000 people attending the game & it's not a night game, it'll take 20-30 minutes to get through there. I remember the egg bowl in 2007, it took me 45 minutes. Traffic was at a dead standstill.

...if someone would just put city cops or MHP at those traffic lights to keep the traffic moving along 45, the problem is solved. I don't understand the stupidity.

I got through west point pretty easily on the way down today, but I came through there at about 10 AM. Coming back, it was ridiculous. I sat through five cycles of that traffic light before getting through.

that a plan will be in place with local law enforcement to help with the traffic flow around campus. It was ridiculous.

years you stupid <17>
why dont you try leaving for the game just a bit earlier and you may not have to worry about it so much!
ALSO, this it what happens when you have a Intrastate game being played on opening day in the first yr of a new head coach that actually generates some excitement and brings fans out to see the hype.

has got to go. I realize on a normal day it's more safe to have the stop sign, but on a FREAKING game day in Starkville? It took us 20 minutes to get from Dave's jackal daughter's joint to get to the McCoronary's. Hey, Louisville, I realize its good for business but is it cool if I just drop a Jackson out the window and you let us get to gameday?

That's hilarious because I was bragging on how smoothly we got on and off campus. We came in from 182 down by the athletic building and then left out the back of campus where the state troopers office was. Probably took all of 20 for both trips combined. Here's the trick, imagine what every other person heading into town will do, and then do the opposite.

up college view toward the stadium was a nightmare. I sat there for 30 minutes before I just drove in the wrong lane all the way to the 4 way stop by the stadium.

While they should have been helping with traffic flow, cop was giving us a ticket for improper lane usage. There was a guy turning left into vet school, we went around him on the right (there was plenty of room), and cop followed us all about a half of a mile to give us a ticket for improper lane usage. He said there was no right lane. No cop was there directing traffic, we freed up about about 15 cars waiting on this guy to make his left turn, yet we got the ticket for going around. Unreal. Do you suppose the judge will have mercy on us? Cop misspelled last name on ticket.

if that shittastic abortion of a town would fix their ******* traffic lights or get some MHP or Sheriff's Dept folks out there to make sure traffic was flowing smoothly, I wouldn't be bitching. I came through West Point at effing 11:30 in the morning, dickhead.

East Memfrica now, and I was out running errands where it was closer to hop on the Nonconnah-bahn and take Hacks Cross down to 78. From the S'haven, though, definitely quicker to hit 55.

Don't look for any traffic help from the law enforcement folks in West Point or Clay county. Who knows where they were. Giving under the influence elected officials rides home, perhaps?

I hit old highway 25 about 11:10. Took a right on the gas station to get to whatever street passes in front of Oby's. Took a left on Montgomery and it was slammed pack. I was going to take a right on the street that passes in front of Little London, Polo's, Veranda etc but that line was not moving. Made an excecutive decision to get on 12. Moving ok and I decided to go to campus. Took that road that passes by the sorority houses and it was 11:40.

I was literally on that road for over an hour trying to go through the intersection where the tennis courts and the forestry building are. There was no one directing traffic. Cars would block the intersection thus when the light changed, no one could move. And people were walking getting to the stadium so if the light was green and there wasn't a car blocking the intersection, you had to decide to either run over walkers or wait. When it was my turn, I chose the former.

When I finally made it through the intersection, it was 12:50 I was parked by 1:05 and a little over 2 hours later than when I first arrived in Starkville, I was at the tailgate.

to the morgue or the hospital, or did they get the <17> out of your way?

Here's the thing I don't understand. This was the third largest crowd at DWS. I am pretty sure I was at the #1 and #2 crowds, and I have never done anything but just drive up to the stadium without a wait. What was the deal this time?

Was the ratio of non-attendees to game attendees just way way up this time making for more cars and bodies?

Parking conditions are worse than they used to be, so it jams up traffic? Just my guess - I really don't know. I know crowds have been larger since 2006, but the parking seems to have gotten 10x worse than it used to be. There were places off campus that you could always park just 3-4 years ago (even if you were running late), and now those places are jam packed 2 hrs before kickoff.

to get in and out of the Junction around 12:00 or so. It gummed up the entire campus.
But, it was getting real hairy when I arrived at 10:30.
Never have I seen so many people there so early.

If you are coming south on 45 through West Point, turn left at the first traffic light in West Point. Go east to the end of the road and turn right. That is Brame Ave. and go south till you get to WP High School, turn right on Churchhill, go by the old Bryan Bros. plant and you come out on 45 at Wally World. Once you are on 45, go past 82 and 182, take 2nd right on Artesia Rd. That takes you to Oktoc Rd, turn right and you wind at the south end of campus. I left Tupelo at 11:50 and was parked behind Hand Chem. lab at 1:10.

If you are coming in on 25, turn at the sign to the to the Horse Park, go east across Montgomery and all the way to Oktoc Rd. Turn right and wind up at the south end of campus

But your shortcut is too out of the way in West Point. Take a right at the street across from Pizza Inn and follow it til it ends on Churchill. You'll come out at the very same spot on 45 except you'll do it about 10 mins. quicker.
