Rhule and the whole staff has been preaching physical violent contact for a long time now. They've been trying to prepare these guys to be physical through different measures.

Those players are playing physical, and it's nothing more than preparing them for a physical game.

I'm chasing my tail in my explanation, but its no different that TO, physical was the name of his game. Hit 'em every snap,, snap after snap, and eventually wear them down by being relentless.

I think after NU has been "soft", a so-called "finesse/trick 'em team" for several years, its just a matter of changing their perception of themselves. Frost's teams were soft and they played soft, so when the **** got deep, they folded.

First physically and then mentally..

I personally don't have a problem with that approach. Deep down, I think think Rhule feels this team wins the game unless they beat themselves.

Let's not forget Rhule earned his degree with a Master's in Educational Psychology.

Osborne had a long-time Master's in Educational Psychology before he received his Doctorate in that same discipline.

A large reason Rhule is always talking about how NU has to earn the respect to be confident heading into the season.
His teaching is nothing more than a systematic approach to developing confidence through earned respect, not fear.

Tom always talked about not having his team(s) get too high, because that emotion is so closely tied to fear.

During the Yant bandwagon, during the Grant bandwagon and during the Allen bandwagon I was shouting about R. Johnson. When the dude was not hurt he was smashing it doing everything asked of him and doing it well. Jeez I hope he straight blows up this season. (Huge fan of Gabe so no shade at him or anyone else.)
A few weeks ago I decided I liked Johnson over Ervin. Grant is the clear cut #1 talent, Johnson has improved a lotttt as a creative runner over his freshman year and I think he should be number 2. Gabe is a hard worker and looks really imposing he just needs to show me more before I’d put him #2. He needs to be more creative or start plowing over more defenders.

Most on this board have a huge boner for Ervin, he looks the part but hasn’t shown me anything yet that shows he is going to be an above average back, Grant has the vision but needs to trust his blockers this year.

They all need to actually GET better blocking but yes, Grant and Johnson have the vision. Ervin hasn’t shown that or enough quickness in tight space.

As I said prior until I see it on gameday these are my backs in order:

1. Grant
2. R. Johnson
3. E. Johnson
4. Ervin

I would love nothing more than Ervin to prove me wrong, but he's had 57 carries and maybe once I was like okay I can see something there. He does put in the hard work and may have improved under this staff we will see.

I was going to say the same thing. And yes, I see much better blocking this year with the line, TE, and, of course, the FB!!!

Meanwhile at camp in Boulder.

I love Lewis chiming in with "not here"; thinking Coach Sanders was going to tell them to keep their cool or something. Then the HC went an entirely different direction, oops.
