One of my old friends from high school ended up with the game ball after the game last night. Not a close friend but she has pictures on Facebook showing off the ball. Is there any way to preserve the authenticity? Is that even a thing? Would it ever be valuable to someone besides sentimental value?

Its value lies in the beliefs that UK fans love UK memorabilia. Its not a tournament ball so not many people outside the UK world would pay much for it. Probably the biggest value lies in the fact that Monk set the UK freshman scoring record with it. After he is drafted he may pay big for it. It would be nice to see it in the UK trophy cases though. To authenticate it, the person would need affidavits from the chain of custody down to the official.

Damn. Not likely that that could happen now although there is a good deal of photo evidence. Very nice piece of memorabilia. Turns out it was a different person who ended up with the ball instead of my friend. She was with a group and a different member of the group was the one that got to take the ball home. I'm sure Monk or UK would like to have it and I'm not sure why it wasn't kept by the staff after the game.

Isn't there more than one ball used during a basketball game? I know there are a lot used in football.

She should have stuck around and gotten it signed after the game. Didn't know you could take those either so she might have gotten it taken away from her.
