Let's keep this simple. Rutgers did not belong on the same court with Illinois. Obvious the talent gap here is pretty big but beyond that the reason why Rutgers lost by 35 rather than 15 or even 20 is because of a complete breakdown of every facet of this program which leads directly back to coaching. Remember we saw glimpses of this at times last year. Talent aside, Rutgers is an extremely soft team. Calling a team soft is one of the worst insults you can call a basketball team but it fits with this one. In 7 games this year spanning 14 halves this program has bothered to show up only in maybe 4 halves. When things go wrong they have no ability to gather themselves and play with some pride. That they lost by 35 should be a wakeup call to all in our fanbase. Remember Illinois throttled RU in the Big 10 tourney last year as well.

A win over Clemson was nice, but Clemson is not a NCAA team, they are a middle to lower end ACC school this season. RU will have some opportunities for wins in the Big 10 versus these type of schools so yeah Rutgers isnt going 0 fer..they will get 3-5 league wins this year. However against any team with a pulse Rutgers is going to get whacked like they did tonight. Beatings are going to be the norm rather than the exception vs the top half of this league. It all goes back to recruiting. What you see on the court now is Pikiell's failure to recruit and huge mistakes in overrating some of his upperclass talent. The only way out of this mess is to recruit the portal hard. As for this season, Pikiell has to figure out some new goals for the program and it should involve putting the younger players in their best position forward and more of an emphasis on working the gameplan around them. There is no NCAA tourney coming so lets move past that and maybe we can actually become a better team by years end then we are right now.

To quote Ed Rooney, The only ticket this team is punching is “a first class ticket to nowhere.”

What a fall.

Wash...rinse...repeat. Say good night Gracy.

Pike better spend every spare minute recruiting and studying offense. I'll continue to go the games, but at least my spare time has opened up. It's just not worth the aggrevation.

Pikiell has at least eliminated the myth that you need to be a great coach to win at Rutgers.

So when we go looking for our next coach, our top choices won't put out demands they know we can't meet.

Lack of recruiting will come back to haunt Rutgers against B1G competition.Road games will be mostly losses and home games against a team like Purdue will be a nightmare to watch.

I still think Pike is a good coach with the right players. These are not the right players, and this team is currently a disgrace to the state of New Jersey.

Pike better find someone who can recruit some non-***** players quickly or he is not long for this job.

agree but that bunch that made the NCAA 2 seasons* involved a lot of hard work, took some time to come together and he had the key pieces in each spot, remove one and it doesnt work, remove 2 and it falls apart, thats where we are now. Pike needs two IMMEDIATE IMPACT transfers which means any loyalty to Paul and Caleb or any younger player has to be put on the back burner

I didn't watch a minute of it because I was watching our women's soccer team. That's about the only positive I can think of. (Well, the box score shows Mag was 2 for 2 from deep...)

Pike said it was his best team and the best 5. He completely whiffed on understanding his players abilities
Pike probably didn’t think the players would stand around and get out hustled. That’s the worst part of the team. Have some dignity and play your *** off. Only Mag and Miller seem to do that.

that Hyatt has made so many mistakes lately he has been banished to the bench on a bad team shows that something isnt working in practice

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve hammered Pike for his recruiting, but losing to Lafayette isn’t on Pike. You don’t need a coach for that game.
51 points in that game is pure bitchassness.
Giving up 51 second half points to Umass is bitchassnes. The roster is Pike’s fault.
Playing like quitters isn’t

Not sure how you make the NCAAs…lose three players who got you there and could not improve your recruiting as a result of winning.

clearly something doesn’t add up

Hit the portal hard and don’t be so picky about “oh, he asked about playing time so he can’t come.”

Thank god my wife didnt record this fvckin **** show. I think the worst part of this is that these fvcking losers gave us hope. But it was clearly all smoke and mirrors. Got no sack. None. You could pluck 5 dudes from Werblin and they would play with more balls than this. Pathetic and soft.

This team competed more on the road against good teams in pikes first three years. Didn’t say win/ but the effort was always there. Where are you Mike Williams
This is by far the softest team Pike has put on the court in his time here. You can't teach toughness. We are in for a miserable season.

It’s all relative. Give me 5 NBA players and even I will win games. He recruited players to fit his style as he has said many times and this is his “best team ever.” That delusion is not a sign of a good coach.

RHJ, Geo, Hyatt, Jones, and Cliff would be going HAM at any other school with a pulse and decent coaching. All 5 would be averaging between 10-20 points a game.

unfortunately we have a coaching staff who don’t know how to coach and just rely on effort and luck

Not really. JY and Myles aren't really doing that much in the Pac 12.

Part of me chalks it up to them only going to be in the program 1 year. I think they’d both have much better results if those were their primary schools.
