Im pretty excited about basketball, well mens basketball this year. I think our big 3 sports are headed in the right direction. I was pretty critical of Howland but he got after it finding these players.

Call me when they've actually done something. And they may. But I've been hearing this story about Howland's teams for 6 years now, and they've still not won an NCAA tournament game.

We've played in a grand total of one NCAA Tourney game since 2009, I'm not remotely ready to consider this a potential Elite 8 team. It's one thing to look good on paper, but we have no idea what the chemistry of this team is going to be. Not to mention we are dealing with several injuries right now, some of which will linger into the first part of the season.

We should probably be pissed if this team doesn't make the tournament, I'll say that. Ben Howland is still the coach so we are going to have some really stupid losses along the way. I think the NIT run has inflated what our season actually was last year. We were one game over .500 overall before the NIT and had a losing record in conference play. I'm certainly glad the NIT run happened, it's never a bad thing to keep playing games and to win them. But this is Year 7, I feel like we know what we are getting into. We will have games where we look awesome and then there will be the obligatory loss to Ole Miss or the 20 point loss to Vandy or Texas A&M on a Wednesday night that makes the entire fanbase want to fire Howland on the spot.
