16 is an odd number to stop at and any study that makes State population a major component is going to be negatively biased against Nebraska. I’d really need to see how these numbers were established to know how credible it is.

It's obviously just one look. I think the missing part of the equation might be the passion of the fanbase. No ranking methodology is going to be perfect but personally I've always felt the best way to rank the fanbases is by the branded merchandise sales over a period of time (ie., not just for one individual year which can be skewed by short term performance). That accounts for size and passion on a durable basis.
Average size of TV audiences also would be another indicator but that can also be affected by the popularity of your competition (ie., being in a conference with other popular teams or not).

If Nebraska had never skipped a beat for over twenty years I'm convinced Nebraska would be in the top ten. By the way, where's Oklahoma in this worthless poll? I'm guessing this isn't just based on football but the whole athletic program and that is why you don't see Nebraska in this poll I would guess.
Basically i Looks like they are going of population i of the states or around the area of the particular college (Syracuse) , Ohio State at 12 million , that’s roughly the population of Ohio,As good as they are , they have a very low fan base in Cincinnati, they’re more Kentucky BB fans in Cincinnati than Ohio State football fans. So this a stupid chart done by someone who must not have anything else to do.
Once again, as someone who travels the country for work, the 3 biggest brands in the B1G are Michigan, Ohio State, and Nebraska. Everyone else isn't even really close, in national reach.
Probably the same people that did the study where Wendy's new fries are preferred over McDonald's by 2-1.
Not really. I've lived in Ohio and the support for OSU - with the exception of some of Cincinnati - is mind-boggling. Sort of the same support NU has in Nebraska but the difference is Nebraska only has a population of around 2 million. OSU - Ohio and LSU - Louisiana probably control and have more support in their states than any other school. The only recruits that OSU loses in Ohio - that they go after hard - is an occasional Catholic school kid to ND. Think the NU support that they get in Nebraska only 6X the population. Basically, there are no other CF threats to OSU in Ohio
Another thing to consider - OSU in Columbus (along with Texas - Austin) is always in the top 2 to 4 largest universities every year in the country - around 55 to 60,000 or thereabouts. OSU graduates are spread out all over the country - especially in the L.A and So. California area. I've read that the Rose Bowl absolutely loves it when OSU plays in the Rose Bowl as they'll sell 15,000 to 20,000 tickets to OSU people in that area.
Believe it, the OSU fan base is HUGE.
Do people in Cleveland and Cincy care about osu?
I’ve lived in Milwaukee and Philly and both college teams were an afterthought at best.. it was all packers and eagles.
Everything Wolve says about Ohio State in Ohio is spot ion. I also lived there a few years back
Cleveland has HUGE OSU support. Cincy is right around 60% to 70& OSU as if you think about it, what other major CF is there in - or around - Cincy besides Cincinnati U. and that's because of the recent job done by Luke Fickell. Once he leaves for OSU (a given after Ryan Day leaves), Cincy will revert back to a basketball school.
I don't think you realize the effect that OSU has on the state of Ohio. On Saturdays - IT'S OSU FOOTBALL THROUGHOUT THE STATE - PERIOD. One more time - PERIOD. Especially in this century (since Tressel started at OSU). Not quite sure why you're comparing Pro teams to whatever college teams that they follow in Milwaukee and Philly but believe this - none are even in the same universe as OSU in Ohio (and other parts of the country).
You're obviously not familiar with the football situation (pro and college) in Ohio
I'm not a fan of OSU by any means but yes you're right. OSU is always close to the top of college branded merchandise sales which tells me a lot about their fanbase size and passion.
I'm not either but I'll give the devil (OSU) his due since I'm very familiar with Ohio football. I compare OSU football to Nebraska football - they're both like cult followings only Ohio has 6x the population.
Columbus is obviously real bad if you hate the colors scarlet and gray. Keep in mind. it's a huge city now 950,000 in the city and closing in on around 2.5 million metro - it's the biggest city in Ohio - not Cincy or Cleveland. It sure seems like every house and person - on football Saturdays - is decked out it scarlet and gray. I've grown to hate any shade of red because of that

Lived in the Philly Burbs most my life. Though a Pro Sports town there are a lot of Penn State alums and fans in the area. #1 city for PSU alums.

no wonder those people are always so pissed off. Buncha pennst alums trying to shower clap their bholes morning noon and night
Didn’t run into much when I lived there… but I was in a younger part of town (Manayunk).
