It would totally crush it in Omaha.

Indy seems to be great while Chicago probably makes the most sense (maybe) but it is so expensive and of course they gouge you...

Omaha would sell out every game (I think) and it would be a huge success here.

I doubt “they gouge” you in Chicago for the big 10 tourney. There are conventions and other events every week in Chicago that bring in more people, in toto, than this one event. The prices are what they are, pretty much every weekend. Omaha hotels I’d think would be much more likely to increase prices that weekend specifically than Chicago hotels as a group would.

And yes it’d be one huge gig in and for Omaha.

Omaha doesn’t have the “it” factor that a Chicago, DC or NY have. I could see a Detroit or Minneapolis hosting, personally I prefer Chicago.

Yeah, I see what you are saying but no one is ever like "I can't wait to take a vacation to Indy" yet it probably is the best host.

Now, I think most people that attend are people that are close by (so everyone in Omaha and Iowa and maybe Minny and Chicago) and then of course people that can afford it.

Sorry, I meant that in the general sense. Chicago gouges everyone for any reason they can.

But if the Big Ten tournament was in Omaha, a few hundred fans would probably spill over into the casino hotels in Council Bluffs - doubling Iowa's yearly tourism numbers.

True. Maybe the NCAA should experiment with some sort of national championship tourney ( or maybe they call it a series) in Omaha every year for the next 50 or so years just to see if it might work. Doubtful there in enough “it” factor to get fans from the coasts, Texas, and the southeast to show up for such a things. Of course maybe they could also look at hosting a women’s event as well in Omaha. That probably wouldn’t break any attendance records.

Omaha shouldn’t get a look.

Been to Chicago for the very first B1G tournament in 1998 and it was alright but a few of my Herky buddies would rather go to Indianapolis, we heard it is a lot better getting around and more places for eating and drinking close by...

Minneapolis and Omaha would also be great, Omaha is a no branier...

Minneapolis will host Football and/or Basketball at US Bank within the next five years

I believe so too.B1G needs another venue inside studuim besides Indianapolis and the Viking ship is a great new studuim that blows away the studuim where the Lions play..

I’ll take NY or Chicago the less sophisticated may want Omaha but I thrive in the Big City environments.

If only Madison Square Garden had a seed corn logo on the basketball court, you and your sophisticated buddies could pitch a tent in your bumblebee overalls.

Just looking at the Big 10 footprint you would have to think that Milwaukee, Detroit, Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, maybe even Cleveland would be easier destinations to get to for most fans.
Omaha, does do their sports events well.

Fixed it for you.

Brad Tucker: I’ll take NY or Chicago for us uneducated and easily fooled rubes from Iowa who still think these places hold some magical wonderland of grace and sophistication. I thrive in big city environments where I can pretend I am one of the other posers.

FWIW, the reason people attend these tournaments is to get a heavy dose of basketball games, and when their team isn’t playing a chance to eat and drink within close proximity of the hotel and arena. People aren’t there to watch the opera or some Broadway play.

I get it, you rubes rather hitch the wagon and head to town to watch the games in Omaha, reality is most B1G BB fans have never been to Omaha let alone even want to go to Omaha. For me Omaha is closer however I prefer a major city with big city activities.

I’ve been to the B1G in Chicago and I’ve been in Omaha for two different years for First round NCAA games and Omaha wins hands down...

Listen you knucklehead... once again you've missed the point. Jim Delaney doesn't give a flying **** what you or I prefer. The POINT... pay attention here... is that Jim Delaney listed Omaha as one of the three possibilities for hosting this event. That means that once again Nebraska is part of the conversation and Iowa is over in the corner sniffing glue. And why did he include Omaha? Because it has a fantastic history of hosting national level events. Fact.

Look up "irony" in a dictionary and have the clerk at your Casey's read it to you. It will say, "an Iowa fan referring to anyone else as a rube."

I live in Chicago although I’m enough of a rube to not know how to post a picture of the BIG logo and basketball-hoop set up in Daley Plaza I can see out my office window. And yes, this tournament should be in Chicago every year, but that wasn’t the point of the thread. Perhaps you’ll catch on at some point.

I say move it around a little. Detroit, Minneapolis and Omaha and then back to Indy and Chicago.

I just do not want to play 2nd fiddle to the Big East again and have the tourney a week early in MSG.

Besides Detroit, I hope they do this.. I don’t mind Chicago but I heard Indianapolis was more fan friendly.. Some of us are considering going there next year since where all about retired..

I still can’t picture Omaha hosting the tournament not much to do other than dodge potholes this time of year. If the B1G could get Texas to join, Dallas would be a fantastic site.

The gamesmanship is fun, but Nebraska has the fewest tourist attractions of any state in the conference
