After the game started, during a time out, a man came down and sat directly in front of my husband (next row up, aisle seat). He had a note pad so clearly he was a scout. I heard there would be @ 14 scouts at the game last night. This particular scout was rather large and athletic looking. Not that it mattered (understand in a sec), but I couldn’t see his face because he was facing forward watching the game. Midway through the 1st half during a time out, I leaned over and asked him whether he had any eligibility left & could help us out! He laughed and said “Yeah, but unfortunately I’d be playing for the other team”. I said “Noooo, we need your help, why would you do that?”. He replied “Well, I played for Michigan”. In which I replied “Aren’t ya tired of Michigan and need a change”. He said, “Nah, ya never get tired of playing for Michigan”. I said “Ok, I respect that and one day we’ll get there, too!” So a little later during a time out, I asked what year did he graduate. He said 1989. I asked “were ya any good?” He modestly said he was okay & shrugged his shoulders. I asked him his name and he replied Glen Rice. I said “Well Glen, I got a team to root against” and then yelled “Go Defense”, because the game started back up. We both laughed. I then turned to my husband and said, “Hey, that’s a scout, his name is Glen Rice, he played for Michigan in ‘89, but he wasn’t so good”. My wide-eyed husband said “What, Glen Rice? Are you kidding me? One of the best NBA players...yada yada”. I’m like “Glen, man, ya just embarrassed me...you said you weren’t that good...geesh! See, if you’re not a Rutgers player, I don’t know who you are, sorry!”. We all laughed and then had a lot fun together the rest of the game. He stayed until the final minutes. He pointed out many missed or wrong calls against RU, so it’s not our imagination. Glen is such a great guy! Michigan should be very proud to have him as an alumnus. Btw, he was scouting BOTH teams. Likes Eugene, he just needs to be more aggressive!

Go RU!
Diane

PS. Anyone that knows me, I am ALL about RU, period, end of story. I don’t follow “sports”, I follow RU sports. That’s why I wouldn’t know Glen even face to face and still wouldn’t five years from now. Now, Mike Williams, I saw in Section 118 dancing and saying hi to a ref he knew. That I would know. LOL

Damn, if I knew, I would have thanked him for beating Satan Hall. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

They did ask a few questions. I remember one for sure....toughest opponent in pros was Michael Jordan. I’ll have to ask my husband the other questions/answers. I remember him mentioning Kobe Bryant & Shaquille O’Neal...think those were his favorite teammates and one of them was also the funniest (O’Neil?). Why don’t I know...because I only follow/care about Rutgers, sorry. But, I will ask :D.

Go RU!

Derek Harper and Mike Iuzzolino could stop him
Man, I played that game all the time at Georgia Tech with the same teammate. We were unstoppable as the Mavs, putting on the full court press the whole game with two fast guards. Much harder to win with the Clippers or Wolves because they were so slow!

Good story about Rice!

In addition to Glen Rice, D' Angelo Russell and Caris Levert sat courtside. Levert is a Michigan alum. Terry Mills is also the Michigan radio commentator and he does not look good. Gained a lot of weight.

NBA College Scouts have a GREAT job.

They watch games and take notes on players. Write up a report and send it in. As one scout told me "If we draft them I get paid. If we don't draft them I get paid." If the scout is lucky and the team he works for wins the NBA Championship, they get a ring. Regardless of the team they work for, they can live just about anywhere (I know a Dallas Mavericks scout who lives in Orlando and a Gold State Warriors Scout...he has two rings...who lives in Fort Myers, FL).

There are probably a bunch of videos of Glen Rice and Ron Harper on the court together
