Here's hoping donors are giving to the practice facility fund. I give what I can, but it'd be great for the heavy hitters to step up.

We can't get a break. :flush:I heard that fundraising was going very well, but has hit a speed bump since the football arrests/suspensions, including Flood's. Big donors pausing to question RU leadership.
Ugh.ROCS is right on the money here...to coin a phrase.
Hoping hoops gets off to a fast start so things pick up...otherwise we might have a much longer wait than anticipated for real progress on a hoops facility.
The practice facility is essential. You don't understand that?Sorry. I can't get excited about giving to a new practice facility when we need a new game day facility. I hear the pitch. Unlike others, I'm not a bottomless well. I do support our athletes but this is not what I'd like to "invest" in.
I keep hearing Barchi will be gone in the spring. Nothing is going to happen until he's gone. Donors are well aware how anti-athletics he is and has been. The sincere hope is his successor is either neutral or supportive of RU athletics. If so, fundraising will take off.ROCS is right on the money here...to coin a phrase, although I'm not sure its because anyone is questioning leadership. It's just a rough go right now.

If $ is specifically designated for the facility, they have to use it for that purpose, so what's the difference if Barchi is here or not?I keep hearing Barchi will be gone in the spring. That's simply not the way things work at RU (or any government institution). A school can support a project, or they can make it known there is no support. Under Barchi, donors have consistently gotten the message that there is no interest from beyond the athletic department in enhancing sports facilities. From his dramatically exaggerated "athletic subsidy" to proclamations that facilities must be paid for 100% with private donations and no bonds, the ground rules have been pretty clear. Barchi has been totally and completely anti-athletics and has basically stopped any facilities progress, but for a couple of very small projects that were privately funded. It is not realistic or possible that a project the size and scope of the Bball practice facility will - or should - be done that way. There is plenty of money to get a bball facility done and there has been for years, but with the school President in firm opposition, it's simply not going to happen. Once Barchi is gone, I think people will be surprised at how much progress is made in a very short time.If $ is specifically designated for the facility, they have to use it for that purpose, so what's the difference if Barchi is here or not?
I don't understand our big donor's line of reasoning.
Just curious....how do you know Barchi is out...based on what(just asking)It seems that Barchi will be gone next spring. Once that happens, good things will happen with regard RU facilities.
There is nothing is writing but there was an certain expectation that Barchi would serve out his five year term and then move on. From his side he made noises about being at a stage in life where he might want to look for something less demanding. His job is smash UMDNJ into Rutgers and then go. A good practice when a leader has to make a bunch of tough decisions. The guy that made the enemies leaves and the organization brings in a a new face to begin growing again. Nothing limiting the board from giving him a new contract however. But I think that's not likely.Just curious....how do you know Barchi is out...based on what(just asking)
But notice does not need to be given publicly. Especially if the successor is already in-house...I believe Barchi was hired in April 2012 and began as president in July of that year. This is the fourth academic year he has been in charge.
McCormick gave approx 13 months notice when he left, which is a fairly common time frame for college presidents as it takes quite a while to find a new one.
