Here’s my theory, if you can’t win in the ACC at FSU, you sure as hell cant win at RU

Today's rankings:
3 Clemson -- ACC
17 Cincinati -- American
19 Memphis -- American

20 Wake Forest -- ACC
23 SMU -- American
25 Navy -- American

--- also receiving votes ---
29 UCF -- American
34 Virginia -- ACC
35 Pitt -- ACC

Without Clemson, the ACC is almost as good as the American Athletic Conference.

I didn't realize how dysfunctional FSU is, some similarities with us with certain admin leaving, shadow AD from the boosters, etc...

From the article:

Florida State football is a monster truck with a rusted-out four-cylinder engine. FSU is shiny and imposing from the outside, but so antiquated administratively that many top coaches will be scared to even take a test drive. “Even though it’s a trainwreck because of the university’s dysfunction, it’s still a top-10 job,” said a collegiate official.

That’s the dichotomy facing the coaches who FSU will attempt to lure. The problem with Florida State is that the university’s mismanagement of the athletic department for decades has undercut the attractiveness of the football job.

How did we get here? A pivotal touchstone would be when athletic director Stan Wilcox left FSU for the NCAA in August of 2018.

First of all, no sane person voluntarily goes and works at the NCAA in this era, especially from a high-end ACC job. Wilcox’s departure was widely viewed in the industry as him running for greener pastures. Or any pasture. And the fact that FSU swung and missed on so many athletic director candidates to replace him speaks volumes. They ended up with an internal candidate named David Coburn from the campus administration because they struck out so hard. He went from interim to full time in May of this year, and all of college athletics chuckled along while FSU buried itself deeper by anchoring down with one of its own.

None of the established candidates for this job know David Coburn, which means they will be hesitant to work for him. That’s mostly because he’s not expected to be there long term. Neither is university president John Thrasher, who is expected to retire after this year. That’s not to mention shadow AD Andy Miller from Seminole Boosters, who is also planning to retire. No one ever really knew who was in charge at Florida State. And for coaching candidates, well, they still won’t.

Everything that is wrong with college football and college sports in general is clearly on display with this firing. No wonder everyone thinks student athletes should be paid.

If GS is such a hot pick for coaching RU why is it he is not mentioned for any other job including Fl. State .In articles about the Fl. State job about 7 coaches are mentioned no GS .
Use your brain and think about it

Why ? It's a no brainer GS is RU top choice and nobody else's .
If you were an AD or University President, would you open yourself up to media and social justice protests over “Greg knew”
It’s always a pile on, if just one radio host in Tallahassee wanted to take the controversial side, which is pretty much guaranteed to happen...the SJW would take their cues.
Why expose yourself to it.

It won’t happen here, you’re smart enough to know if it does... it won’t get traction

Starting to winder if Nebraska also cuts ties if it finishes 4-8. If 5-7 have to imagine the seat is pretty hot in 2020.

i would agree if he wasn’t the local boy. He will get 4 yrs regardless. He walked into a dumpster fire in the locker room. 57 kids are gone since he took over and there simply isn’t any talent there. He will get to recruit to the new facilities which should open in 2021 or 2022 for full completion of phase 1. He better have his poop in a group by then or he will get kicked to the curb.

If Saban was a convicted pedo a school like FSU would hire him.

GS is viewed highly at RU. Most of the country sees him like Tennessee. It had nothing to do with his PSU ties. It was a smokescreen to get a different coach. Right or wrong.

I wish RU was as badly managed. They have national championships in multiple sports this decade. Yes, Willie Taggert was a bad hire and one could say they mismanaged football. But athletic program as a whole is performing at a high stanadard.

24 hours later....... fsu hires their search firm.......

i love Patty.... just sayin'.....maybe he doesn't always bat 1.000

According to a report from Football Scoop, Florida State has already determined which firm it will use.

According to Football Scoop, Glenn Sugiyama of DHR will help Coburn and the Seminoles as they look for the next leader of their football program

Wrong. I have never hated GS. And I stated my opinion.

You sound like a fanboy.

And everything I said is 100% true. Tennessee actually happened. Or are you under the impression they really cared he worked for PSU and was involved in the cover up?

I really hope you are smarter than that.

I know the public takes their cues from the media, and when that shock jock went out of his way to call GS a pedophelia supporter and how could Tennessee compromise it’s integrity by associating with him, it created a huge movement.
Are you upset we view the most successful football coach in our history from a National perspective positively...I’m an admitted advocate of GS...

You reallllly don't believe it was because of how he is viewed as a coach and was because of Penn St.?

It got traction because he isn't viewed highly as a coach. If Saban worked for PSU and they were somehow able to pry him from Alabama, do you think they would have had the same reaction?

If Saban was accused of pedophelia support and suppression, you better believe it would follow him around highly negatively.
He’d have to clear himself.
By whom of importance is Greg not valued highly in the college game?
Would you like to make a wager with me, the overwhelming percentage of the media will view this hire is an absolute win for RU?
That includes ESPNU Radio, BTN, ESPN...all of them.., bet me!
A nice meal next time you’re up here

Please. If Saban had a PSU connection long ago in his career and he wanted to go to Tennessee, they'd have rolled out the orange checkered carpet and said thank you for coming.

They care about winning. Schiano is viewed nationally as a fallback. At Rutgers he is viewed more favorably and maybe he is, but if you think he is some wanted commodity out in the top level of football sphere, you're nuts. FSU is no open. I see a lot of names mentioned. I don't see his being mentioned. A lot of other jobs have opened since he's been forced to take a DC position. How come no one has hired him? It ain't because he worked at Penn St. It's because of how he's viewed as a coach.

At Rutgers, for obvious reason, he is viewed differently. If he never worked here, he would be viewed like the rest of the country views him. Average.

Who the Fu*k is arguing GS is a sought after coach for jobs around the country?
I’ve said literally 100s of times, we are his only destination.
IMO he worked an absolute miracle here.
Did he win the conference, no.
But there was absolutely no precedent or reason to believe we’d be in position to ever win any conference or have a night like pandemonium in Piscataway before or after him.
You can pass it off all you want.., that man worked a miracle, put friggen 45,000 in our seats and I want him back.

Bet me the National perception of his hire won’t be met with complete positivity by the great majority.
Absolutely no one will view him as a fallback for us... as a matter of fact, Butch is the fallback

I'm more interested in academics performing at a high standard. How are they in that area? (I know this is a football forum).
One could say that on the whole (minus football), RU's athletic program is improving, and in some areas (wrestling, soccer, lacrosse, others) we are performing at a high level. Two bad head coach hires in football set us back (Captain Obvious statement). Greg will right the ship.

Actually rated ahead of RU in latest us news and world report. 18 vs 22, probably not really different.

US News Rankings are garbage. FSU pretty far behind Rutgers in QS and Times Higher Education rankings. Point stands on Rutgers athletics. Not buying into crap reporting of NJ.com and a few softball players who could not hack the new coaching regimen.

Echoes some things said here.

As mentioned, firing a coach in less than two years without an off-field scandal is very rare, and it’s going to make people wary. One coach already told The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman that it would deter him from the job. FSU isn’t bottoming out like, say Arkansas, where a change might be more understandable. A coach wants to know he’s going to have support and time to turn things around, especially given the current roster situation.

There’s a new full-time athletic director in David Coburn, who doesn’t have much athletic experience and spent a long time in state politics, and the department is reshaping its relationship with Seminole Boosters. For a long time, the boosters were more powerful than the athletic director. It’s one reason many established ADs stayed away from the job when previous AD Stan Wilcox left for the NCAA.
