I will say the former and the latter.Right, Frost ran a QB draw with him on 3rd and 7 the same drive AM tweaked his ankle. Either you are lying Scott or you are an idiot. Those are the only two options
Including a weak recruiting base to attract big-time coaches that many seem to point to on this board. The HS football - in that 400 to 500 mile radius - just doesn't exist.Special teams and OL are not good, defense plays good against good teams but mediocre to bad at times against middling teams. We play hard but find ways to lose. A unicorn QB could hide this somewhat but there are several problems.
That might not be a bad thing if he can figure out your hot / cold QB situation.Frost will be back next year. Sorry ARB
Yet we generally out recruit teams in the west. Excuses to keep Scott Lost.Including a weak recruiting base to attract big-time coaches that many seem to point to on this board. The HS football - in that 400 to 500 mile radius - just doesn't exist.
Not sure what this means. As long as we don't cancel games Frost can keep his job?I said it weeks ago, I think after Michigan, if HCSF's team can keep the rest of the schedule I could see TA not firing him.
He just wanted to make sure they only lost by 1 score. Oops it didnt happen this time due to their piss poor play callingFrost doesn't seem to understand that when you are outmanned (such as today), you need to take some chances to earn an upset. You can't settle for field goal attempts when you need TDs. It is like he was more concerned with keeping it close/beating the spread vs taking chances and possibly winning.
IMO, he needs to go.
What's crazy about #1 is that it's been 4 years and we still don't have an identity on offense. It's mindblowing. So, if the idiotic decision comes to pass to retain frost with "significant offensive staff changes"....
1. Who do you get for OC? Do you trust Frost to make that hire? Frost has hired 2 OCs already. Both have failed. The 2nd arguably has helped regress the offense from 2018. At the end of the day, whoever he hires, Scott Frosts offensive identity doesn't work in the big ten. Bet they won't look much different in 2022.
2. Do you extend Frost? Almost have to to show commitment, right? What recruit chooses to come here knowing he's likely a lame duck if you don't extend him?
I still refuse to believe Smothers is so incredibly bad that we play an already average QB who has both a broken jaw and sprained ankle. If he really is that bad, I hope he isn't on an athletic scholarship at Nebraska. For football. So Frost says Adrian has a broken jaw and high ankle sprain. What an indictment on recruiting and QB development that literally a guy with a broken jaw and high ankle sprain is your best option at QB. But also, why are you running the QB so much when he's got a broken jaw and high ankle sprain?
Northwestern this year was the best game of his entire tenure. Unfortunately we havent won a game since and he should've been fired after last season if we are being honest. They competed well but alas after 4 years you have to be able to point to something other than the manner by which you lose as a reason to keep him
Can anyone point to any actual wins in 4 years that argue for a year 5?
I guess he and I have far differing opinions on what “ great” means.Carter all but confirmed it at halftime! Saying we have a "Great Coach" !!
Northwestern this year was the best game of his entire tenure. Unfortunately we havent won a game since and he should've been fired after last season if we are being honest.
But he could very well get one.We fired Riley after 3 years and he won more games than Frost has won in 4. He absolutely does NOT deserve a 5th year, period.
I hope I'm wrong but my best guess is that he gets his 5th season..But he could very well get one.
If he's back next year, I hope he hires a dedicated ST coach and gets a transfer portal QB who can make reads quickly and consistently throw accurately (or is forced to, if necessary). Two pretty obvious areas.Yes but he didn't have to go out of his way to praise Frost either. Give it a rest. Unless we get blown out in our last games I can see Frost being retained. And if he is, then we need to support him 100%
Total nonsense. Keeping bad coaches is not good for a program. There arent excuses for still being a last place team in year 4. If we are still playing a problem QB that is on the coach. The problem is that you just can't wave a magic wand and replace Frost with the next Nick Saban. Coaching stability is crucial for a program - especially one that's trying to return to its blueblood status.
Yes, your record is disappointing but take into account your losses - 4 of them to current BCS top 10 teams - OSU by 9. Oklahoma by 7, Michigan by 3, and MSU by 3 (overtime). You guys are close and if you travel around the other boards, many consider NU the school nobody wants to play.
I really consider Frost as a good coach. In the games I've watched this year, you're problem seems to be your QB - Martinez. He just seems to self implode at crucial times. I still can't believe that absolutely inexcusable late fumble against Michigan when you had that game won.
Yep. We are going to be 1-8 in the big 10 after already having three straight losing seasons. It is truly insanity that people on here want this to continue. He's won 36% of his games. The fact there's even a discussion about bringing him back is mystifying.
My point is there's a trend here: Callahan, Pelini, Riley, Frost......Hey, let's just keep firing / replacing HCs. Guess what, this isn't the 70s, 80s and 90s and people - especially the young kids today - don't recognize Nebraska as the blueblood it use to be and the firing of the HCs over the last decade or two doesn't help build relationships -especially with kids and their parents. Maybe it isn't the recent string of HCs that's the problem.Total nonsense. Keeping bad coaches is not good for a program. There arent excuses for still being a last place team in year 4. Yep. And next year has another losing season and then people will say "should have just fired him last year."It's going to be funny when Dan Mullen is fired after winning over 70% of his games in 4 years, while Frost is retained after losing 70% of his games in 4 years
Yeah I didn't add in "close".Not sure what this means. As long as we don't cancel games Frost can keep his job?
IMO, isn't it about time, the AD is allowed to make those decisions? Green and Carter should zip it.I heard it. His tone and words did come off as someone who wanted to keep Frost. But I’m not going to read too much into it. Might just be overcompensating for the gloomy outlook he provided earlier in the week.
We should absolutely hire Dan Mullen if he becomes available. It's going to be funny when Dan Mullen is fired after winning over 70% of his games in 4 years, while Frost is retained after losing 70% of his games in 4 years
Ya, no.Now you are just getting angry. Leadership always show support until the moment they are fired. Its the way things operate, OP. You will learn that after you get past your 21 years of age.
Callahan was correctly fired and Bo pelini immediately turned it around into a consistent 9 win program. Mike Riley also deserved to be fired. Pelini is the only controversial firing. Frost has had four straight losing seasons and has a horrible recruiting class coming in. If you are worried about recruiting, keeping frost will do far more harm. Keeping him would move us closer to kansas level or maybe worse since even Kansas doesnt keep coaches who have 4 straight losing seasons. My point is there's a trend here: Callahan, Pelini, Riley, Frost......Hey, let's just keep firing / replacing HCs. If he would have talked about injuries earlier, would he have been accuse of throwing players under the bus?So Frost doesn't talk about injuries.. until he needs excuses
Agree on the ST and Oline play. Why else would Frost have personally gotten involved in the Oline? Ya, that position sucks and I wouldn't cry if GA was invited to look elsewhere.Special teams and OL are not good, defense plays good against good teams but mediocre to bad at times against middling teams. We play hard but find ways to lose. A unicorn QB could hide this somewhat but there are several problems.
I'm assuming a hard to find qb can help mask line problems..Agree on the ST and Oline play. Why else would Frost have personally gotten involved in the Oline? Ya, that position sucks and I wouldn't cry if GA was invited to look elsewhere.
Not sure what the unicorn QB remark means tho.......
Frost has been given a wide berth. If he were just 21-21 instead of 15-27 he'd have plenty of support. Big time winners don't lose at the rate Frost loses at.My point is there's a trend here: Callahan, Pelini, Riley, Frost......Hey, let's just keep firing / replacing HCs. Actually they did at least once, Terry Allen had 5 straight losing seasons Laughing Mangino came in and took them to a bowl game just his second season.Keeping him would move us closer to kansas level or maybe worse since even Kansas doesnt keep coaches who have 4 straight losing seasons.
