He has clearly been under attack by the national and to some degree local media. He's had a leak somewhere among people he trusted about the off site meetings or "practices". He has clearly realized that people he thought were friends were not his friends. Been there. At this point I'm thinking he's not sure who he can trust.

Personally I kind of like him being a little surly leading up to a game. People forget how surly Tom got with local media when they reported things he didn't like. Just win. Nobody will care if he scowls at Sam and Sip if he wins. Frost isn't going to lose his mind like Bo regularly did and he doesn't need to play patty cake with a $12/hour reporter. Frost has to be exhausted from all of the rectal exams he's received over the past year.
Off site training during covid was a poorly kept secret. I knew about it for months and I am not someone with 'sources'

Is this former husker in the media, or was he or she just on the radio as a guest? Quite honestly if someone wanted to go after Frost in the media or on the radio he has given them plenty of ammo.

Again, being criticized is part of the job description, he of all people knew what he was stepping in to in taking this job.

I am 50, and know all about TO's so called issues with the media. I get it, he was coming after Devaney, and it is a tough act to follow. He could have left, he didn't. TO was a pretty boring guy and didn't have a big personality so I think that is where a lot of his put-offishness (if that is even a word) with the media came from. You also have to remember that Nebraska was a much higher profile program then, with much higher profile players and much higher profile scandals/issues. In the early 90's there was a lot of nasty **** going on that swirled around the program, that quite honestly TO had to deal with on a national level, not just from reporters from the Ural Star and the Weird Hearld.

Let's also put in to context that this is the first game of the season. Not after a big loss, not the back end of two away games, GAME ONE. I am a little of the same way, I don't mind the fact he is a little surly, but it is out of character for him and if he is on tilt already, I worry and pray for his mental health. Wins cure a lot of ills, focus on what you can control.
Jay Moore Former Husker regular on Big Red Wrap Up, has a podcast and is a regular guest on sports talk radio in Omaha. Frost very much channeled Tom from back in the day in that presser. The only difference is that Tom knew how to "smile" at the reporters as he glared at them and clenched his jaw. Meh, let's worry about Ws this fall.

Then why now is it being brought up? This is a distraction this team doesn't need. We're a few days before the start of the season and just several weeks before the early signing day. He needs to win games and the media can go screw themselves.

No idea. My point being that if I knew this, quite a few people also did, some of whom had nefarious motives. Entirely political and timed to create injury and division just a few days before the kickoff of the season when the team needs to be focused on actual football. It was a cowardly act. I hope we can pinpoint who is behind it.

Here is my stance. If you want to be a guy who pushes the envelope or crosses the line about rules the don’t be pissed when there is backlash from media, athletic administrators, or the NCAA.

don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

if you want to run a clean program, then don’t blatantly break rules.

I don’t believe there is much middle ground.

SEC schools outwardly break the rules and deal with the outside consequences.

Dumb question maybe but is practicing offsite against ncaa rules ?
No, Urban Meyer was known to have hell week be off campus so the players didn't associate the college campus with any of the negativity they might experience from their hardest week of practice of the year.

Compared to some of the other problems surrounding the program and the staff right now, this is just a little pimple. If possible, and I am sure it is not, he needs to suck it up and focus on football and winning some games. If not, the outcome to all of this is becoming pretty apparent as each day passes.

This presser isn't the disease, it's a symptom. By itself it's not a big deal, but it's that thing of "If you don't know how to change a tire, I'm not going to trust you to rebuild my engine."

Frost perpetually looks like he hasn't slept a total of 8 hours in the last two weeks, never mind the last two days. His every move looks like a guy who is in over his head and just reacting to a perpetual state of being overwhelmed.

Everybody has a bad day or a bad mood, but you know exactly what you're doing when you sit in a press conference making millions of dollars and say **** like "if I wanted to answer that I would." And it really doesn't matter if we like it, I can just about promise you Trev didn't like it. And it's probably got a lot to do with Trev telling Scott he needs to straighten the hell up and start with a baseline of treating the job with some respect.

It just had that feel of, "Ok you can make me take my hat off and take my Skoal out and put a collared shirt on, but you can't make me answer the questions like they want me to."

We don't like it from Frost for the same reason we didn't like it from Pelini. If you're not bright enough and composed enough to answer a mildly tough question from a guy who pecks a keyboard for a living, why should we expect you to stay smart and keep your composure with a big game on the line against a team with more talent than you? Ultimately that concern was spot on with Bo. When his team needed him he wasn't coaching, he was freaking out.

I think the answers to your questions are too technical for you to understand...Winking If you want to be treated like a professional you need to dress and act like one IMO. Nothing like a wad of chew in your lip duing an interview to make you look stupid IMO. Good Lord. Didn't Erstad and Frost have mothers?

I think Frost's mom did interviews with a dip in also.

And it begins.

Dorky fans turned on Bo and started the attacks. Spit on his lips, pee on his pants, sweating, nervous tick, nervous laugh...

Here it comes on Frost...wearing a hat, a shirt without a collar, a chew in, arms folded across his chest.

We could hire a coach in a wheelchair and by the end of the second season some of you would complain that the wheels did not have enough shine.

No doubt. I personally have a thing about snuff in the lip. I see dads offering a dip to their kids and I can't help but think to myself "what the f is wrong with you?". It's a stupid dirty disgusting unhealthy habit IMO. I know it has become a thing in professional sports circles but I just don't understand it. It doesn't make you look tough. It makes you look stupid and right now the last thing our head coach needs to do is more things that make him look stupid. Get rid of the dip and dress like you're a head coach. A short sleeved polo should be no problem. He's got his pick of any Addidas gear he wants.

Dude, Frost is gone after this year.

Fans are turning on him fast. Once the "polo" comes into play it is all over.

But that does excite me for Coach Gus Malzahn to come on down!

I believe you are wrong and IF people pick at Frost I can only imagine what they would do to Malzahn. Gus isn't coming here but keep fantasizing.

I honestly believe the pressure is overwhelming him. There's the on-field winning and expectations (not going as boastfully planned) and if even half of the off-field stuff is true (and I believe it is), then it would certainly wear on a guy over time. Much of this is self-inflicted.

Dude, people love picking at Frost now, just look at this thread.

Gus would be a great hire here.

Do you remember when Callahan wore that beige shirt? One of the roughest days of my life

Heck yeah. If I had a walk in Adidas closet, I'd be styled from head to toe in the black and red three stripe life to the tits. Would never wear the same thing twice.

I forgot about that! That was so funny. You would have thought he killed a live chicken during the presser.
Throat slashing, hillbilly callin', beige shirt wearing dude never stood a chance. Wardrobe malfunctions are always the most deadly.

There is tremendous pressure that nobody on this board could understand IMO. In this age of 24 hour sports radio, TV coverage and social media it has to be overwhelming. I'm sure he long ago had second thoughts about leaving UCF. Let's hope this is a great year.

Gus would come here. I wouldn't be in favor of it, but he's basically a mercenary at this point in his career. Maybe we can revive the ghost of Howard schnellenberger.

For those that don't understand how this all works, if you are home grown and win, you can do no wrong. If you don't win, the home grown eventually wears off and the comments come out. If he was winning, he could wear spandex and have juice running down his chin and he would be held up as an icon.

Of course we understand how it works. The worse he does, the more clarity we have that he hid in the closet while Lawrence Phillips dragged that little blondie down the steps. Like Al Davis used to say. Just win baby

Depends if he were winning enough or not.
Our coach could literally be a six foot sentient penis and if he won the conference and signed Top 10 classes I would be like, "MAN I hope that six foot dong stays here til he retires or goes limp!"

You can be a jerk but you better win. It's all about winning. Riley is the nicest guy in the world, it didn't buy him any extra years because the team sucked.

Win or go home.

I would make fun of Saban if he peed his pants. That's just not something I can let go by without laughing.
