Frost on fake punt

Frost said on locker room show that when the D got the stop on 3rd down he was going over the plays with the offense for the next series and didn't notice NU had only 10 men on the field. He said if the 11th man had been there, he was the man to shadow the punter when the return team peeled back. It may be possible the big problem of constant disorganization could be cured by Frost giving up playcalling and focusing on the overall management of the game. Another example is when he was asked about the fumble on the first play. He said he assumed it was a forward pass and he was talking upstairs about the next play. He needed to be laser focused on what the hell was going on with the replay (or lack thereof) and be ready to call a time out or throw his challenge flag. It is apparent nobody is paying attention to the big picture and that is the main reason our players run around like the Keystone Cops.

If our offense was actually good then I'd be okay with him continuing to run the offense. Since our offense has been total crap then it's best he actually be a head coach during a game.

I agree on the play calling. Frost needs to be the HC, and be aware of what is going on when the defense is out there.

Yes TO called the plays as HC. TO was also bleeding the clock & keeping the defense off the field. He was playing chess. Frost is trying to play fast like the aliens in the old arcade game Galaga, but keeps getting blown up.

We need to get Callahan back just to do the pressers. We need him to dust off, "we're the dumbest team in America."

Yup, some coaches can do it while others cannot. Frost clearly can't do.

He needs to figure it out fast that what he is doing and how he is doing it isn’t working. When Illinois thanks us for bringing football back to the B1G this season all over the internet something needs to change.

There' s a special teams coach as well. Week in and week out these guys find ways to do things you can't get away with in high school. It genuinely makes you wonder what they do all week.

Who is special teams coach during the game? They have a special teams coordinator who is not allowed to coach during the games. So who is in charge of ST’s on game day?

That punter looked like an animal that escaped the zoo. Start, stop, not sure which way to go next, then headed for the herd with the same colored jerseys.

Basic football ****. He needs to manage the team. Hand over OC duties. Do something well. One thing, that they can point to as progress.

What does he have to lose in this covid season. He can still wear headset and be involved but he needs to focus on the overall game.

Good question, the Huskers.com coaches roster doesn't list any of them with special teams responsibility.

I rewatched the play. I only counted 9 Huskers on the field.

hmmm.. That's the problem with having a consultant who can't coach on game days run your special teams. There has to at the very least be a GA who is making sure the right guys are on the field.

My football career ended in high school, but ****s sake we knew who was on punt return.
I'm not sure if this was on the players or the coaches. At some point SOMEBODY HAS to be responsible to at the very least counting heads. Back in the day it was the QB on offense and the MLB on defense. Punt returner on punt returns. We never had a situation where we were short guys on a return. I don't know if we had a guy hurt that should have been on that return or what.

So we had 12 players on the field on the first defensive play. 10 players on the field for a punt return. 9 players on the field for the 2 point conversion. At least we eventually got to 11 men on the 2 point play.

JFC - you can’t make this nonsense up. It’s beyond bush league. It’s beyond amateurish.

He's not going to give up play calling duties but he needs to surround himself with some real assistant coaches.

The explanation of why they didn’t get the backward pass reviewed is even more ridiculous. You were planning your next offensive play and suddenly Illinois’s offense was on the field snapping the ball?

You have to do whatever it takes to get that play reviewed - it was huge! Granted NU proceeded to play so horribly that it probably didn’t matter, but nobody knew that at the time.

Agree. Should have called a TO and ripped the refs *** until they reviewed it.

I think deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties most knew they were going to **** the bed.
Yeah but standing there with your thumb stuck sideways after that play is like a baseball manager deciding not to challenge a bases-clearing double that might have been fair or foul. Did you really have something else to do at that moment that was more important?

Hold on....Frosty scripts the 1st 15 plays. Why would he be discussing the next play? They already know what it was. Frosty lies a lot. He dont think people are paying attention.

I thought we had a new special teams person who was going to improve this area. Wouldn't it be his responsibility to make sure we had the right personnel on the field? Wasn't it some guy who had a similar position at Auburn?

He is not allowed on the sideline for games.
