Frost on AMart

I seem to recall Frost once indicated that he tends to give out the absolute minimum on injuries, not unlike most pro and college coaches. So it could well be coach speak. All we can do is wait and see and hope the backups do ok.
I would think there will be a recovery period of at least a couple of weeks. What we know for sure is that his injury was not judged to be season ending.

Bunch was a 3 star
Neglected to add that. Bunch is not ideal for Frost's offense, but he appears to work hard on his game and has played at the level of much higher regarded QBs in Gebbia and POB. He doesn't have the special sauce of a Martinez, but he should be able to get the job done against Troy.

Let’s hope he’s not doing coach speak. Some coaches have been known to down play or overstate injuries so teams don’t know what to prep for.

As for this weekend & Troy let’s hope the team is taking it more serious then fans are. The game still has to be played and there are no guarantees
You are not dealing with "most" coached! SF does not go running
his mouth to hear himself.

Agreed! He is not the QB to get our program to the next level but he is not the typical walk-on QB.
I'm shocked he'd come here as a walk-on with 3 stars beside his name.

Maybe not ideal, but he can run. From Huskers.com on his senior year in HS: "As a senior in 2015, Bunch helped Independence and Coach Scott Blade to a 15-0 record and the Tennessee Division I Class 5A state title. He had 3,405 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, 520 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns." He looked pretty good to me in the spring game and looked good to me Saturday

BTW. Bunch did better his senior year than Marcus Mariota and he was in a much tougher conference. From Wikipedia: "Mariota threw for 2,597 yards on 165-of-225 passing attempts (64.7%), including 32 touchdowns against only five interceptions. He also rushed the ball 60 times for 455 yards (7.6 yards per carry) and seven touchdowns.

All I can say is, this has to be about the best news we could have expected. I was told by, what has ALWAYS been a pretty reliable source that AM had an ACL injury, but they weren't sure what the extent of it was. In fact, he was told that he was going to fly out to get a second opinion on it. lol. Then I heard the same exact thing elsewhere and was prepared for the worst.

I am pretty damn happy that he was fed a line of bs. This kid is special. Ridiculously special. GBR.

The passes to JD and Stanley where insanely beautiful. More importantly, his poise in the pocket AND on the move is something you would not expect from a kid that has not seen live action in two years. This kid is going to be nasty.

There will be pressure from the kid to play ASAP. It is incumbent on the coaches to resist the temptation to suit him up before he is ready. But in Frost, you have a hyper-competitive guy, so it will be hard. And the med-staff and trainers will likely follow the guidelines, so when he is cleared he can play.
Play Bunch and put AM in of things get too close.

Also said Bunch, Masker and possibly someone else will be getting lots of reps this week.

You're all missing what he said here...the "someone else" is 2AM via VR...can still do the work, see what its like in a virtual setting, without having to physically stress the knee!

Play Bunch regardless. Don't play AM unless healed, and thereby put the Big X season at risk. We aren't going to the national championship game in any event, and we can still get bowl eligible even if we lose this one. Just don't put the entire season at risk by putting him out there on a gimpy knee and risk worse injury to the knee or something else due to favoring that leg. Besides, if the D plays as well as they did Saturday and are able to clean up a few things, 17 points will be more than sufficient, absent a couple of turnovers on our end of the field.

I think if he is not taking snaps in practice by the end of the week, you sit him.....period. It's not worth throwing him out there in a game against Troy and risking a further injury.....and not just to the knee. If you are playing to protect an injury while you are playing, there is a decent shot that something bad is going to happen. Get this kid healthy for the BIG slate.

Well, some additional play vs Troy would be good for Amart. I think splitting the two (Amart-Bunch) with each playing half the game is a good compromise.

I have faith in Coach Frost and his decision making abilities. I don’t think he would play Adrian Martinez hurt and risk a season ending injury. Adrian will bounce back quickly and will be scoring touchdowns soon.....GBR!

Frost isn't going to protect Amart....he has a completely different mentality than most fans. If Amart is ready to play, he is going to play because this team is about the next man up, not protecting talent. I think Frost differs from some in staff as well. Coach V. wants a more protective approach, but Frost is aggressive and believes in everyone he coaches, including the backups. He believes in Duval and the training staff, and their ability to limit injuries. Frost believes there is a reason that Amart didn't have a tear, and that was the training methods, and their physical preparation methods. If amart says he is ready and the training staff says he can't reinjure, then amart will play every snap. Some guys are injury prone, some guys are not...protecting qbs has never been a part of the equation for success...

Very good post Solana.

"Also", more real-deal game reps are a great asset. Especially for a qb who hasn't played in a couple of years. If he is functional & can hack it......play him!
