Wow, that is honestly a bit surprising. I like it though, even with all the outside negativity, they doubled down and are saying we are sticking with our guy. I think if there was any intention of possibly letting him go in a year or 2 he doesn't get this extension.

Good let recruits know this a total rebuild.

And the coach will be here....so come help us turn this thing around.

Hopefully this will give a boost to the staffs underwhelming recruiting class YTD. We need to start landing some recruits.

This has nothing to do with recruits. Frost still had five years and nothing was pointing him being shown the door. You could make the statement about it being about recruiting if he had three years left but not five!

That what it is really about. Sends a message to combat the negative recruiting. I like Frost and believe he will be here a long time and will be successful, but this extension doesn’t mean he can’t/won’t be let go at some point. Callahan signed an extension in 2007 and was fired that same year.

Thank goodness top recruits and their parents are the last people on Earth who don't know that contract extensions mean little or nothing in terms of how long a coach will be there. Has nothing to do with Frost or his record so far, but the whole practice of handing out golden parachutes is out of control.

Winning is the only thing that will combat negative recruiting.

I doubt many recruits were like, "He only has 5 more years on his contact? That's not enough, I won't consider Nebraska unless he has at least 7 more years on his contact".

But wait...some dummies on here saying he will get fired after 2021.Ha..morons!!RollingLaugh

But what if he keeps going 4-8 until 2021? There’s a decent chance of that happening. Just being practical and looking at our future schedules.

Don’t get me wrong, I get why we did this. It’s to send a message that we’re committed to our coach.

Cool. I’m also in the boat that this shows a commitment to the current coach; part of the equation for selling yourself to a recruit. Selling the program to a kid who wasn’t even a thought, the last time you won a conference title, is becoming more and more difficult. Recruiting successes will become more frequent once improvement on the field is shown. We have to start somewhere.

It doesn't matter. One of three things will happen. 1. The ship will get righted soon. 2. NU will struggle and Frost will make some painful for him staff changes and we will trend up. 3. NU will go through two or three more years of this and HCSF will do the honorable thing and step down and forgo his buyout.

Yes ... this contract extension is clearly signaling to the nation that the ship is being righted

lots of positive reactions nationally for recruits to eat up

Honestly, I don't care about contracts or their extensions anymore....every time I start wondering "Where is the money going to come from"....schools always find it for their bell cow. Always. Just start winning again, that's all I care about.

Idiots, that just makes the buyout even more expensive. He hasn't done Jack yet.
They were going to do it anyway...doing it earlier is cheaper. He is going to have good seasons, the moment he does he is going to ask for extensions that are inflated based on up to date salaries. In 2026 he is going to be getting paid a 2019 salary. This saves money for the AD. If you waited until 2024 to extend then you would have to pay him 2024 money, which could be 30% more. This is exactly what the Golden State Warriors did with their big 3. None of them had done anything, they were young and hurt. But the warriors gambled and gave them 4 year extensions at 2013 cost...in two years the warriors were winning and had a very cheap roster.

I just saw on Stubhub 2 tickets in section 602 Row 12 for $11.79 with fees included. Maybe the contract extension can slow down the rate of fan apathy that is setting in.

There are many layers to announcing this decision now...supporting Coach Frost/Coaching staff, recruiting, counteract fanbase apathy. I am wondering how fundraising is going for the new facility? AD Moos can sense the rumblings going on amongst the Nebraska fanbase. Winking

Best part of the extension is watching all of our local coaching experts on here melt down. Buckle up for the ride!

It's about recruiting and telling the lunatics to shut the F' up. Schools will always negative recruit poor records and this is a way to fend it off.

Does not fend anything off. Our last three coaches all received two year contract extensions shortly before being fired. If it is being used that Frost is going to be fired this will not make a damn bit of difference. In today's world coaching contracts and their lengths mean absolutely nothing!

Can’t wait for the smart comments about this extension the first time something goes wrong today. I bet we have several on this board already brainstorming.

Bo, Mike and Bill had idiot A.D.'s and no support from the fans and boosters. Nice try though. Buckle up haters. Frost has all the time he needs to get this thing called NU football fixed!!
Frost is special. He needs time. Not everyone can perform quickly like PJ Fleck.

Wrong. It absolutely fends off teams trying to use certain pitches against guys we are trying to land.
