In the last 10 years, we've had more players drafted than Auburn.

And oh yeah - Ole Miss sucks.

One thing I'll definitely miss about Mullen is he's very good at taking athletes that are overlooked and developing them into NFL players. He seemed to take an NFL combine type of approach with high school kids. Look at their size, speed more than their stats or star rankings. I actually think Mullen preferred overlooked players so he didn't have to recruit against Saban, Miles, Gus, Freezus etc...

Mullen was phenomenal at developing players.
Gus Malzahn and /insert dozens of names here/ at Ole Miss are not.

We can credit a lot of people, but honestly, you need to thank God every night for the JUCO system in MS.

he 10 programs that developed the most three-star (or lower) recruits into Round 1-3 picks in the last 10 years are Ohio State (14), Wisconsin (13), Boise State (12), LSU (12), Stanford (12), Louisville (11), Washington (11), Mississippi State (10), TCU (10) and Utah (10).

Well if more MS players were able to get qualified, we'd probably be getting the kids out of high school, so at the end of the day it's probably a wash. That said, the bigger point here is that you are at a disadvantage at MSU if you do NOT use the JUCO system.

It gives us a shot to recruit kids that we never had a chance with coming out of HS.

There is definitely a sweet spot here. Alabama doesn't sign many 3-stars, and if they do, they don't see the field. We have probably signed a lot more 3-stars than some other SEC schools, so the odds help. However I agree that recruiting stars are based mostly on satisfying the fan bases of the bigger schools, and that MS kids are usually underrated. Look at a KJ Wright type. Pretty sure he was one of those, but he's obviously an elite football player.

I think most players from a Mississippi in general are underrated.

this is very true...I've lived in Texas and watched the High School Football here and maybe it's the old school player in me but I've always felt Texas Football is soft... lots of great athletes four and five star guys that never pan out....look at the recruiting rankings for Texas and Texas A&M and then look at their on the field performance, when I think of any Texas school ...soft is first word that comes to mind,,,,

We agree, I'm not arguing. My biggest point is that the JUCO system isn't the savior, it's just a necessity due to our current high school system. When I said it's a wash earlier, I basically meant that the guys we would have gotten if they could get qualified but don't, or went out of state, generally equal out against the guys we get from out of state. Who come in.

For example, Montez Sweat in 2017 originally from out of state, and we never get him if he isn't at a MS JUCO. He equals out a guy we lost in 2014/2015 high school class from in-state, who may develop at the same rate. Obviously this isn't exact science. Then you have a guy like John Abram, who basically cancels himself out by coming back.

Now, looking back at 2014 and 2015, we had very few who left us to go out of state, and then we added guys like Sweat on top of that. So while it renders my point above null (it was meant to be very broad and general anyway), it also represents the dream situation where we have a team that can contend for the SEC (but didn't thanks to Mullen bailing).
