I wanted to respond to this thread on their forum but didn't feel like getting banned so I brought this here. I really enjoy reading these posts. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I've heard so many UNC, Duke, UL, and Kansas fans making these statements over the last couple years, and I can't help but smile. For other fan-bases reading this, your coaches recruit the same players. Cal just doesn't leave you enough of them. It's so good to be the undisputed king again. We were almost there during during Pitino's tenure, but we have finally arrived. Cal has college basketball shaking in its boots. I had many of the same feelings when Pitino left. UNC and Duke seem to have stockpiles of talent up and down their bench during those years. You could see the talent difference on the court, and it sucked to know that we were not at their level. The shoes on the other foot now and those fan bases are squirming. They use every unintelligent argument they can contrive. I do recall some jealousy during those years, but never delusion. Well, all of your schools are one and done institutions (Okafor, Jones, and Winslow?), but Cal just does it better. People hate Cal because he is honest and doesn't hold kids back. People hate us because we are great. So just man up and admit it. Sometime it does feel like BBN against the world. I can't blame those other fan bases for feeling that what UK has is unfair because I get it. I will end my rant because logic will never conquer their fear, but their tears sure are tasty.

They start 3 freshman who are all first round picks. Probably 2 in the lottery. I can't even comprehend what they have to complain about.

Your right smash but lets be honest would some of those players who committed to DUKE be Burger boys if they committed to a smaller or middle of the pack school? Plumlees, Jefferson, etc.... just to name a couple that were middle pack 4 star players who got the burger boy nod because of committing to Duke. I do believe UNC has a few of those as well.

Plumlee no, but Jefferson was a highly sought after recruit. Pretty sure he was announced a McDonald's all american before deciding on Duke.

The only question to ask is would you take their 8 McDAAs or would you keep ours?

Easy answer, so yes, Duke is not satisfied with who they have.

We're very close in current 2015 rankings with Duke, UL doesn't have a top 30 commit, and Kansas and UNC better hope their entire lineup returns. What's there to complain about?

Pull up the rivals rankings on their recruits their senior year. There are a handful that should not of been Burger boys.

Ok, UofL, UKjr, IU, UNC*, Duke fans: all of you that make more money than me, hand over some to me because it isn't fair!!!!! You shouldn't have more than me! We should have the same size house, TV, car, etc.

Duke needs to tend to its own knitting

They have an aging coach and no discernible succession plan that I can tell

Other than Amaker at Harvard, there's really nobody from that tree that could be called a prime candidate for K's spot; and Amaker was a failure at UM, a Power 5 school, before he went to the Ivy League

Moreover, you can clearly see that their influence has been greater than their recruiting success as the McD AA's they've brought have often been the ones who would fill out the Burger Boy roster--not the ones who were the first picks to it--and in more than one instance riding on Duke's coattails to get the honor at all

In a Dookie's mind, his alma mater has cleverly insinuated itself into the heart and soul of corporate (and thus the only important) American life and will surely last forever

And in sports nothing ever lasts forever

Absolutely. I've coined them "Little Step brother UKU" after their recruiting pitches and locker room theft.

Lol yes. They actually are the University of Kansas, but obviously go by KU. I thought it was more appropriate to call them UKjr

Is there a UK guy that is a prime candidate when Cal leaves? I think the whole country has gotten over the whole Alabama "has to be a Bear guy" thing. I agree with the premise of your post, but think it can easily be turned against if Cal leaves.

Kentucky can just about land anyone they want they don't need to find a coach from lets say a so called UK coaching tree.

Again, WRONG

We were demanding why our coaches, who were being paid top five money, weren't putting top five results on the floor.

So keep trying...we know your game.

I think what he was trying to say is when UNC**, FLUKE, UKUjr, etc.. no one assumes they are just "cheating" to do it (even thought with UKUs history regarding ncaa issues and championships we should assume it).

But when we win, which is a lot (and the big difference / haters), its chalked up to cheating.

There's no hypocrisy to point out. What is it with this board having so many "fans" that feel the need to point to hypocrisy anyway. Aren't things of that nature part of being a fan in the first place?

Good God your takes are awful.

UK has won titles with 5 different coaches. We know how to hire away from the family so your "bear thing" doesn't even apply to us and hasn't in decades. Duke on the other hand has NEVER sustained excellence past ONE coach, and has no clue how to make it work.

Another point you miss, is history has shown its always preferred to have a successor to your legend that is familiar with the program. After that, all bets are off, and Kentucky has long since learned that. Duke? no.

You can stop trying to be "that guy" now. It isn't working.

Yep^^^^^^^^ Like I said earlier we pretty much get just about anyone we want and have had 5 different head coachs take us to NCAA title. No other program can say that.

You are acting as if all programs are equal, do things the same way, and are at the same place in time. Just because we are blue bloods does not mean any of us are anything alike. You couldn't be more wrong with your assumptions.

I hear you on this point, and contemplate whenever I post. I am selective to what I disagree about because I know most times I've disagreed I get attacked by a group of people that just blindly say we as fans are right. Having said that, I think that it is extremely fair to ask our fans to be fair. I work with fans of other teams that read this stuff and try to be fair. It is easy to be fair when we are the most dominant team and program, as we are now. But, I am as offended as other team's fans are when one thread touts our schedule by saying Arkansas is a legitimate top 20 team, and the next thread says they are horrible. We claim killing Kansas was a great win, then we say they should be a 7 seed. Fans and fanatics are different. We are all on the same team. I may be a little more disagreeable than most, but it is my nature. I still hope we are all on here in three weeks celebrating the same thing.

I think you are assuming an awful lot, and not comprehending exactly what is being said. I would just say to you.

1. Duke and Kentucky are not the same. Just because we have proven you can sustain success at this level, doesn't mean other schools can or will. Duke doesn't have some things in their favor we did. They might not have a Joe B Hall waiting in the wings to have a safe transition for one. You can't replace Rupp, K, Wooden etc. You can only try, and In no way is trying going to always amount. Duke is not as good of a Job as UK either. I know ESPN creates a perception that Duke is just like UK, but its not. UCLA is drying up as a blue blood. it CAN happen.

2. You are conflating two different points. Kentucky is always seen as a cheat. In 2005 no one was assuming UNC was cheating when they won the title. No one referenced north carolina cheating in 2009 when they won. Just because we NOW KNOW about the grades scandal, doesn't mean it was known then.

When Joe B. took the job, we were in the same boat having not sustained excellence past one coach. Nobody knows if Duke can sustain excellence past one coach, because they were never relevant before K, and they have been since. Would you at least agree with me that Duke has been one of the best four programs of the last 20 years. That makes me want to puke saying that, but they have. All I am saying is to say they can't hire a good coach because all of K's former players suck at coaching is a stupid comment. That was my only point. All of ours do too. I think we will out hire them when we need a coach because we are not a top 4 program, we are THE PROGRAM. But, they will not struggle to find a coach. Maybe Billy Clyde or Tubby will apply.

uh, yea. Who is denying that? Kind of a straw man there.

And again, do not undervalue the importance of a guy like JBH as a successor. A guy that knows the program. Most great programs had one. UCLA had one, UNC had one, UK had one, UKU had one. I'm not saying Duke CAN'T succeed at a high level after coach K. I am saying you shouldn't ASSUME it's as easy as Kentucky has made it look. Duke is not that attractive of a job after coach K. Not tons of fans support in the State, you have to follow coach K in the social media age, and You have to then compete with UNC in state. That is NOTHING like Kentucky. I wouldn't begin to believe for a second Duke is guaranteed anything. And not having that great successor that is familiar with the program is absolutely a problem to have.

You don't think coach K wants his own guy taking over? of course he does, and if that guy sucks, Duke is about to struggle to find it's own image.

I firmly believe that the next Duke coach will be a former player and current coach. Maybe Amaker, maybe Hurley. They and UNCheat believe in hiring from within. All of K's current assistant coaches are former players, which is his M.O.

I've never seen the amount of whining from UK fans about other programs' success that I see other fans regarding ours. As someone else pointed out, I've seen our UK fans unsatisfied with OUR performance, but I haven't seen them try to devalue others. At least not to the same, consistent extent of "I have no actual or factual basis to think you're cheating but you're so good so you MUST be."

Duke is one of the very top jobs in the nation. They're not going to have any trouble finding interest from excellent candidates whenever K leaves.

Fair enough. As long as we agree that "always seen as a cheat" means currently, we agree. North Carolina is finally getting caught. Duke has some issues with a sex abuse thing, but I'm not aware of them going through any NCAA investigation. We are always seen as a cheat because we have gotten caught cheating a bunch. Point shaving in the 50's, Dwayne Casey and Emery in the 80's along with Eric Manuel, all while our football program was on probation because of Curci and Mumme, has lead the country to think we cheat. I'm a fan, an honest one, and see their complaints. We call everyone cheaters that haven't been caught yet. Now that UNC (I refuse to use the stupid little nicknames everyone uses here) is getting caught, they will finally get their comeuppance. But it is unfair to say we haven't called them cheats when we have, and to say they have no reason to be skeptical of our success. I know that Cal is clean and has never been even accused of violations, but with our record, I see everyone else's concern. I'm just proud that Mitch had the balls to hire Cal.

You are serious that you have not seen our fans try to devalue the success of other programs? Did you read the thread earlier where our fans made fun of Michigan's "Fab Five" (I know about our Fabulous Five) saying they didn't accomplish **** because they lost in the final games both years? The same people talk about how awesome it was for us to make it to the final game last year with freshman. That team changed college basketball and made what we are doing possible.

What does this mean exactly? And as far as everything else, we will just agree to disagree. UK fans use the "cheater" card FAR less than most of everyone else. Try the kansas board "the shiver". See how long you last on the UNC boards without being called a cheater. You're just wrong here, and I don't know what else to say about it. You sure You even like Kentucky?

That's really not close to what this discussion or the OP was about. Congrats on watching that 30 for 30 though
